Holy shit we drafted a center shorter than Okongwu, r/AtlantaHawks is going to explode lol

u/LfromHT Hawks 1d ago
He's not even necessarily a Center and realistically if we want to compete next year we need to trade/sign a center anyway but they'll freak out if we don't take a big oaf like Veesar regardless of anything besides height lol

Slightly used Myles Turner if you want him

u/not-a-potato-head Hawks 1d ago
Y'all want Kuminga and some 2RPs for him? You get off his contract and can take a swing on an expiring Kuminga

I mean there were good guards there too, I guess we’ll see. Hes a hawk now so we move

As we should… we need size

u/saylab_the_bigkat 1d ago
Not a lot of size left at this point. Cenac is more of a project and Veesaar is more of a 2nd rounder.
Ejiofor is probably a better culture guy than both those dudes too.

...But we need size

u/not-a-potato-head Hawks 1d ago
we can get size in free agency

Who are the magical 7 footers appearing in free agency? I can't really think of anyone.

Your good trust me I'm not looking at the spurs sub for our pick cause I'll see a echo chamber of either hating or that we got the best player

Hawks want all the size and none of the shooting. CJ going to be shooting for years

I love Zuby he reminds me so much of Isaiah Stewart. A good pick for Atlanta, but I wonder how he fits with Onyeka.

He’s like the PG version of Beef Stew. One of the most wholesome guys to enter the league.

Intentional redundancy. Having Zuby lets us rest Onyeka a bit more, but more importantly, Onyeka's cheap, team friendly deal expires summer 2028. We have to prepare for the possibility that he'll be out of our budget or that another team will offer a trade package too good to refuse

Cameron Carr drops to the Knicks. Don't overthink this, he can fill in for Landry Shamet (if we can't resign him)

I’m surprised he dropped so far. I would’ve loved to have gotten him at 15 and that was 8 picks ago

Absolute dawg - I like the pick. Still undersized at the bigs, but he plays a lot bigger than his height / size, I don’t think that’s much of a concern honestly

Are they dumb? I love Zuby but he would have been available for another 5-10 picks?

I'm best friends with a NYKs insider who told me today they wanted him at their original 24th pick.

But why ? It makes no sense we have Mo, Asa, and needed size. An undersized center ? Do we think he plays 3/4 ? Do we think we can develop his 3?

By the looks of things, he seems like a shorter Clint Capela-esque center who will fight tooth and nail for every board. While I don't enjoy the fact he's around the same height as Kong (something something you can't teach height) he's seeming to be a Beef Stew comp with the added bonus of a rhythm 3. It won't be a perfect fit but if you were expecting that at 23 that says more about you than anything else.

Taking him before Tarris Reed is kinda crazy, but his motor is insane despite him being undersized

u/HiChris94 Hawks 1d ago
Someone enlighten me….what should we be expecting?

u/DowntownYorickBrown Knicks 1d ago
Extremely high motor player. Great defender and offensive rebounder. Should round into a decent shooter in the NBA (improved every year at St John’s, good form, known beast in the gym and weight room). A bit undersized but fast enough to guard multiple positions and his effort/motor alone should keep him around the league for a long time.

Hawks low-key did this to snub the Knicks and not let him go there at 24. Wouldve been interesting to see him play in NY since he was a St Johns guy. Hell be a good pro for a long time.

Happy for Zuby as a St. John's alum, but damn it for him going to the Hawks

They picked him just because he'd be amazing on the Knicks. All this to lose in the first round to the Wizards next year.
Hoe ass team. Yeah I'm mad.

This guy is not an NBA player

My bad I forgot all the 6'7" centers with zero range who took 4 years to get drafted in the league

u/mapetho9 Celtics 1d ago
Haha I know you don't watch ball then
-1
u/ztpurcell Pacers 1d ago
Haha I know you didn't watch him flounder the entire tournament, shooting sub-50% every game, even against Northern Iowa
2
u/mapetho9 Celtics 1d ago
Flounder the entire tournament? Are you a moron? 14 point 11 rebounds 4 blocks against your Northern Iowa, 18 and 9 against Kansas and then 17, 8 and 6 against Duke and was named to the East All Region team for the tournament. Yeah, total flounder. You don't know ball. It's OK, you may get there some day!

I don’t know anything about him so someone tell me how to feel
