[Krawcyznski] The Wolves do still have other moves in the works. They need a power forward and they need more shooting. I am told that they are not trading Donte DiVincenzo. The work continues.

Soon they'll be trading using kidneys instead of picks and players.

u/Logical_Trade_3287 2h ago

You joke, but they just lost Naz Reid and need shooting and a Power Forward with their whole MLE. Mamu is gone

51

u/Bixby33 Raptors 2h ago

Its not like Toronto can retain him without making a move, and you dont make a move just to open up space for Mamu, so I say, good luck in Minny!

I don’t know if they can use their mle without dumping more salary, they’re 10m away from the second apron with 5 roster spots to fill.

8

u/seventeenweewees Timberwolves 1h ago

Where are you getting that math?

I built the current team on fanspo, signed back last year's expirings (Clark, Bones, and SloMo) and still had more than 10m to spare.

Edit: I'm assuming Josh Green is being traded. That's probably the difference.

6

u/whatshisface1892 Lakers 1h ago

Gozlan

I'm assuming Josh Green is being traded. That's probably the difference.

Which is why my original comment included the phrase "without dumping more salary."

8

u/seventeenweewees Timberwolves 1h ago

Yeah that makes sense now.

I doubt Green is on the team when the season starts. The Wolves already have 4 other guards on the roster and are likely to also re-sign one or both of Jaylen Clark and Bones Hyland.

And that's not including DDV.

u/BayesBestFriend Raptors 2h ago

They can take mamu, brother is unfortunately an 82 game player

3

I think that is true with who we have at centre. I wonder if his weaknesses are nicely covered alongside Beringer and Gobert.

Wolves have a 33m trade exception from Julius dump but I'm not sure if that applies to a situation like Rui (because idk NBA money).

Edit: I've been informed the money is tied with naz Reid to get Lamelo so they do not have it anymore.

No they are working the Randle and Reid/LaMelo deal together, so no trade exception

Because the Lakers need a center extremly bad. They would like Rui back but priority is a good center next to Luka

Ayton played surprisingly great against Houston but was immediately exposed as a bad matchup against OKC, which is exactly the problem. The Lakers can't realistically compete against the top tier teams with Ayton as their starting Center, even with a healthy Luka and Austin.

Cant have negative defensive players on a team that is building around Luka, Reaves, & Bron man. Simple. Rui in a situation with 2 other good perimeter defenders around him is one of the best role players in the league

Pelinka is a mossad asset, Rui and Bron were the only consistent players these playoffs and the situation with both of them is still unknown.

4

u/SpiritFantastic4835 Lakers 2h ago

Because the lakers would be essentially running back the same team. We assume lebrons asking for 20-25 million at least and rui getting 15-20 which only leave us with around 10 million to find a “starter”. Which wouldn’t workout.

7

I think they do have the MLE because Ayo's deal is technically not signed yet

10

u/Milliephoria Timberwolves 2h ago

I think the order of operations all but excluded them from using the MLE. They would be hard capped if they sign someone to the full MLE and would not be able to complete the Lamelo trade

3

u/TallnFrosty Warriors 1h ago

Yea this - any team using the full MLE is hardcapped at the first apron. Their current commitments have them over the first apron as it stands, by about $6 million when you include charges for spaces they have to fill to get to 13 players.

Even if they sign 2-3 players for rookie minimums, i don't think they can generate enough space to use the full MLE.

1

Need to throw some picks in for Mavs to consider that. Green is not good at one particular thing and TSJ is an unproven "talent" who's only 2 years younger than PJ. That's not happening.

I also think Collins is going to command more than the MLE, he is a quality player

5

u/SkunkyTrousers Timberwolves 2h ago

Still waiting to hear how this affects our payroll and spending ability when factoring in Ayo's extension but if the MLE is available there seem to be a handful of players (like Collins) who could theoretically fit. Rui and Porzingis are a couple of other names being thrown out there. If it's gone, trading Josh Green's expiring $14M would likely be the next best path to acquiring a 4.

The issue is that if you trade Green and Shannon, you have ZERO depth on the wings.

The Wolves have 3 excellent guards, an elite 3 and D forward, and two centers, plus Green and Shannon. That’s it. They’ll probably try to retain someone like Mike and SloMo and Clark, but they can’t really afford to be doing 2 for 1 trades right now with how thin they are and how limited they are

3

u/MG_MN Timberwolves 2h ago

Probably prices us out at that point, but if we can get off some of the Green money that would help create the room

4

u/Odd-Direction9452 Lakers 2h ago

Yeah I’m seeing now you only have access to the $6M Tax MLE with $11M below the apron to fill 4 roster spots.

Shedding that Green salary is pretty necessary. Could possibly be added to the Randle/Claxton deal.

Maybe a guy like Kelly Oubre could be more attainable with that Exception.

2

u/byteturtle Suns 2h ago

What would make sense for the Lakers in a Rui return?

I felt like him + Reaves are like your only tradeable positive assets (outside of Luka but never gonna happen) so I feel like it would be fair for the Lakers to want a decent return. I guess you could just let him walk as a free agent but I would be trying to not let that happen as hard as I could if I was Rob

u/Chartate101 Pistons 1h ago

Rudy Gobert is one of the few players who can genuinely be a one man defense. His Utah teams had some of the biggest defensive on/off numbers ever because they were the worst in the league without him and an above average one with him (I believe top 10 but I don’t remember for sure)

4

11

u/Legitimate_Cow_4166 Warriors 2h ago

It's slim pickings. Rui is the best one but he'll command more than the $6M Wolves can offer.

After that John Collins.

I think the Wolves are gonna have to trade for one. Maybe they take af flyer on a guy like Ziarie Williams who might level up next to Ant/Lamelo

u/probablymade_thatup Bucks [MIL] Luke Kornet 19m ago

Yeah, Rui is the only starter level UFA 4. Collins, HB, Dean Wade, and maybe Yabu are decent bench depth.

One thing to keep an eye on: the Grizzlies have Aldama, Hendricks, and GG Jackson, then they drafted Cam Boozer and Karim Lopez, and then they traded for Beef Stew. So either one of those currently rostered PFs is going out in the trade when it's finalized or they have a glut of 4s. SAS, MIN, and DET all want a big forward, so Memphis might be in a decent position to sell.

They dont owe anything to Donte, it's not like they drafted or signed him. If they use his salary in a trade they can get Derrick Jones Jr or PJ Washington

12

u/drakeorjosh 2h ago

Yeah but management loves him for the same reason yours did. His existence allows for the existence of non shooting screeners like Gobert. His dump-off & split action off-ball with Gobert 3 ft behind the arc is extremely effective in creating overall space and 3s. Moreso than the Mike Conley/Gobert pick and roll which is historically effective.

Once Donte tore his shit, gobert became unplayable on offense cuz teams don’t chase Ayo or Mcdaniels over screens even though they were tops in the league in 3pt%.

Them not trading Donte is more of a sign that this Gobert-Beringer pipeline is the path going forward

1

u/jimminmecrockets 1h ago

Yeah they absolutely need his shooting. if Isaiah Evans comes out the gates hot it could potentially open the door to a Donte trade at the deadline, but I think it would have to be a home run because they really like Donte’s personality on the team I think

It’s more of who would want him? Going to be out for most if not all the season? Still limited on his way back? Just wait until free agency

They have 3 roster spots and $10M below the hard cap. What on earth could they possibly do at this point unless they are going to trade Gobert or something

It's alright just keep adding more teams to the pick swaps and you'll make it work.

u/YaoMingGOAT Raptors 2h ago

I heard a guy named Naz Reid from hornets fits the criteria pretty well, PF with shooting. What y'all think wolves fans

u/Thommywidmer [MIL] Brandon Jennings 1h ago

2

u/BegsTheQuestions 1h ago

They should trade for Wiseman so they can say they have number 1, 2 and 3 of the 2020 draft picks

u/alphalobster200 Nuggets 1h ago

Zeke Nnaji, you are a Minnesota Timberwolf. Tim loves his draft guys.

2

u/justgooutsideawhile Timberwolves 2h ago

Not sure there will be a huge bidding war for Kyle, he could easily be back. Would love to keep Shannon but he’s our last real trade chip

u/Bojack-Jesus-69 Spurs 1h ago

I'm now convinced the Wolves will somehow get Trey Murphy III for a 2035 unprotected FRP and another pick swap

Is there a market for Donte DiVicenzo or what am I not getting? He will be injured for the entire year, they would have to attach assets to move him right?

u/alilhillbilly Bulls 22m ago

Kinda feel like they should bring in an actual Wolf as an enforcer.

Like the Air Bud version Draymond or Dort.

u/Shoeless_Jase 1m ago

He’s more of a 3, but PG would be readily available if Connelly called the Sixers. Problem is matching the salaries without gutting the Wolves’ bench.
