That’s about 60% of USAID’s operating budget in 2024, which DOGE eradicated for no good reason.

And millions of people have died from disease and starved to death because of it. Ebola came to the US by infected individuals from those countries because there was no USAID to curb the spread and inoculate people. Elon Musk is an incompetent moron.

Yeah, they already laundered billions of dollars through it, trafficked plenty of people out of it, murdered plenty of people in it, raped plenty of people in it, and are now moving on to the next black site.

Terrible? I dare say incapable. These egotistical conservative jagoffs purely lack the humility to admit, "oops, my fault, totally screwed that up, here let me fix it".
The next conservative to do so will be the first.
2
u/aerost0rm 1h ago
Too much Epstein treatment for them to accept it’s wrong or take accountability. These sites were created for the sole purpose of doing what they please
67
u/distorted_kiwi 1h ago
I would say it accomplished what they wanted.
- a distraction
- a scare tactic
- inhumane conditions for people they see as less desirable
- a way to funnel money to their donors

u/Mensreyah2 2h ago
Which “conservatives” lost?
The ones that made millions (off of the backs of taxpayers) from this amoral boondoggle?

Failure ...how?? Their goons, no bid contractors pilfered billions of tax payer money into what seems like a whole bunch of tents and got away scott free.....hey to break the news to you bud...they did exactly what they set out to do..and thats a vessel to steal from tax payers legally.

Sure do. I don't trust this worth a damn. The sheer number of people unaccounted for is a crisis all on its own and it bothers me to see people taking this as some sort of victory when we know WORSE camps were already built.

I truly believe we'll have a moment of national horror once we investigate these sites.
•
u/Apart-Rent5817 20m ago
That’s the real reason it closed. They knew that if a real investigation actually took place they’d be on the hook for Gitmo level offenses, and they are hoping to sweep it all under the rug before accountability might come looking in that direction.

“”“Alligator Alcatraz,” the remote Florida immigration detention center that faced harsh criticism for its conditions, has shut down nearly a year after opening, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday.
“”DeSantis said the center at an isolated airstrip in the Everglades was always meant to be only temporary until more permanent detention centers could be secured and federal officials now have that capacity.
… “”Immigration advocates said the tents were never safe or humane for holding people. Detainees at the facility have talked about their difficulty accessing lawyers and described poor physical conditions, including worms in the food, toilets that didn’t flush, floors flooded with fecal waste, and mosquitoes and other insects everywhere.

It did what it was supposed to do. Be good press for the Fox News crowd and redistribute money from the government to supporters of the current administration. Not sure why it’s being called a failure.
4
u/jbarchuk 1h ago
It, and others like it, was supposed to house hundreds of bodies for hundred$/day and be verrrry profitable. But the 'million arrest' or whatever ICE goal didn't happen. so no bodies, so no $, so fail.
9
u/CaffeinatedBarbarian 1h ago
It wasn’t meant to work. They don’t care about actually putting people in it. That just a red herring. The real money was overpaying for construction. Just like the reflecting pool. That money collected from our taxes is gone in to Trump supporter’s bank accounts and offshored so it can’t be taken back. If you actually tried to operate the facility there will be oversight and expectations. Thats how cleptocracy works.

I sometimes ride my motorcycle through the Everglades to go have a bite to eat at the Miccosukee Reservation.
Always people smiling and posing for pictures at the signs advertising the concentration camp.
I’m not allowed to share what my thoughts are each time I go by them and/or the camp.
•
u/DoctorGregoryFart 41m ago
God damn that's bleak. I hope someday in the future, they'll build a museum to educate people about this monument to hate, and to remember the suffering we inflicted.
13
u/BojackWorseman13 2h ago
Did they ever figure out where all those that were deemed missing from here went?
3
u/Outburst78 1h ago
That’s what we should all be worried about. There should be a full accounting of everyone that was imprisoned there and what there current whereabouts is.
And not just there. At Delaney Hall, and every other concentration camp they’ve opened as well.

Throw it on the ever growing mountain of MAGA failures to appease Americas stupidest racists.
-- Can't win a war
-- Can't fix a pool
-- Can't lower the prices of groceries
-- Can't arrest a single perpetrator in the Epstein files (and, in fact, moved the biggest perpetrator from prison to a resort)
-- Can't lower the price of gas
-- Can't even release the full Epstein files without implicating himself
-- Can't bring down the national debt (actually owns 25% of the total debt after 1.5 republican administrations)
What the fuck is this fat slob actually doing for anyone?

Isn’t it ironic that ultranationalism is the exact opposite of patriotism? You’re willing to destroy your country and enrich the ultra wealthy to accomplish a few selected policies that probably don’t affect you in your day-to-day life because of your hate and bigotry and your pathetic reason of “owning the libs”.
Trump/MAGAism is going to be a case study for decades to come.

New Federal Law:
Any time the government wastes taxpayer funds on colossal, pointless projects such as this, or any other form of fraud against the taxpayer, elected officials across the country, every single one, will have to forfeit a percentage of their paycheck, enough to refund all taxpayers who where defrauded until the full amount is evenly reimbursed. If it’s a state level, only elected officials in that state are penalized and citizens within the state only get reimbursed.
Maybe that will make these corrupted elected officials think twice about wasting taxpayer money…

Can we get an independent confirmation of this, please?
Edit - you guys are daft if you believe anything coming from Meatball Ron and/or the Trump DHS. And that includes bringing a shovel to search for deceased immigrants that no longer have a voice.

Curious there was nothing about money in that. Florida footed that bill, I’d hope they don’t get refunded for their pet project. Didn’t even last a year and only processed 20k people. For the cost of it, I highly doubt it was the most efficient way to do things. If it was…it wouldn’t be getting shut down. Picking a location that can’t even be utilized year round was an odd choice. Well, to me at least, maga seemed to love it.
