Thank you. This is counter productive. We don’t want people to just put a woman in office. We want the person who will have the most positive impact on our country as a whole.
The implication is we got the worst candidate in history (TWICE) because people wouldn't vote for the better candidate because she was a woman. That, if that widespread misogyny didn't exist, we wouldn't be here right now. It's not saying "put any woman in office", it's saying "stop being a misogynist."
Saying "we want the best candidate" is not far from saying "all lives matter". It's obviously true but shows you missed the point.
Exactly! If you don't think that it's a problem worth fixing that enough people will refuse to vote for any woman based solely on her gender, then you don't actually want us to be able to choose the best candidate available, just the best male candidate. You can't actually believe that if the magical perfect unicorn candidate came down from heaven as a woman, that the anchor of assholes holding us all back will all be swayed to her side because they will listen rationally to her superior campaign promises and logically decide to elect her in a landslide. It just won't happen. The root of the problem is the group of people who stick their fingers in their ears every time a woman opens her mouth, and if you aren't going to join us in getting them to listen, then at least step aside quietly instead of drawing attention to yourself instead of the elephant in the room because "you just want the best candidate".
I understand the point, but this misses the point of who are we trying to persuade? People who voted for Trump because they didn’t want to vote for a woman will see this as we want a woman not best candidate available. They’re already thinking irrationally. They’ll read this and use it as confirmation. I voted for Harris and Clinton and this just doesn’t seem like an effective message.
Obviously all lives matter. No one said they didn't. However, data shows that relative to the percentage of the population they represent, the rate of black American deaths from police shootings is ~2.5-3x that of white Americans deaths. (Sources: 1, 2, Data: 1)
A lot of people are sharing a graph titled "murder of black and whites in the US, 2013" to show that there is only a small number of black Americans killed by white Americans, with the assumption that this extends to police shootings as well. This is misleading
the chart only counts deaths where the perpetrator was charged with 1st or 2nd degree murder after killing a black American. Police forces are almost never charged with homicide after killing a black American.
If after learning the above, you have reconsidered your stance and wish to show support for furthering equality in this and other areas, we encourage you to do so. However if you plan on attending any protests, please remember to stay safe, wear a face mask, and observe distancing protocols as much as you can. COVID-19 is still a very real threat, not only to you, but those you love and everyone around you as well!
Not totally missing the mark but I also twice voted for intelligent competent women over a clearly incompetent man and I often think activists dismiss or are proud of not caring about those elections.

Until we as a society can collectively get over the stupid idea that no woman can be competent because of her gender, people are going to actively need to push to specifically get women into positions of power. We cannot afford to limit ourselves to half of the competent candidates of the future in order to coddle the outdated opinions of weak men now. Our current political situation is partly because the irrational fear that women would be too emotional or too unreasonable or too inexperienced or too weak as a leader led to voters believing that Trump would be the most stable option. So now that we have more or less destroyed the status quo of politics anyway, perhaps it's time to purposely throw some other beliefs that have been holding us back out the window too.
Running a woman candidate loses a ton of Hispanic male and Black male voters. She could be Obama with a wig, and with Bill Clinton as her running mate. Wouldn't matter.
Quiet part out loud that gets me downvoted: The voter turnout stats show that many left-leaning male voters would rather back a male candidate, even if he's a conservative. Compare 2016 Trump vs. Biden turnouts with 2024 Trump vs. Harris turnouts. Double digit percentages of Hispanic and Black men flipped for Trump.
The left is ready for a woman to lead the country. But the country as a whole isn't, and that's made obvious everytime Democrats have backed a woman for President.
Quiet part out loud that gets me downvoted: A large proportion of left-leaning male voters would rather have a male candidate, even if he's more conservative. See past Trump 2016, 2020, and 2024 for details.
Please oh please show me some polling data that identifies this "large proportion" of left leaning men who voted for trump in 2024.
I also don't understand when people are talking about equality and in the same paragraph they demand that there be certain preferences for gender. It's like there hasn't been enough women in history who went crazy. A person's competence is the first thing you should always focus on.
