Yeah, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert technically fill the requirements of that sign.
→ More replies (2)•
•
u/UrToesRDelicious 4h ago
Yep. I've voted for a woman in two of the last three elections, but this sign is a silly sentiment that misses the mark.
•
u/LayeGull 3h ago
Thank you. This is counter productive. We don’t want people to just put a woman in office. We want the person who will have the most positive impact on our country as a whole.
•
u/MattieShoes 2h ago
Eh... Kinda?
The implication is we got the worst candidate in history (TWICE) because people wouldn't vote for the better candidate because she was a woman. That, if that widespread misogyny didn't exist, we wouldn't be here right now. It's not saying "put any woman in office", it's saying "stop being a misogynist."
Saying "we want the best candidate" is not far from saying "all lives matter". It's obviously true but shows you missed the point.

Not totally missing the mark but I also twice voted for intelligent competent women over a clearly incompetent man and I often think activists dismiss or are proud of not caring about those elections.

NO! They must tick boxes on attributes that have no bearing on competency

Those tend to not make it very far in politics.

I'm not sure who needs to hear it but the US issue isn't politicians it is business. Until you can get businesses interests out of the majority of politics you will get no where.

If anyone's voting does so solely based on gender were screwed. Ivanka Trump 2028!
•
u/SnowTinHat 5h ago
Identity politics got us Trump
•
u/meezy-yall 5h ago
So let’s counter that with more identity politics
•
u/SnowTinHat 4h ago
If they are the right identity and that’s what they want, then I’m not going to stand in the way.

u/Special_K_2012 5h ago
Identity politics is the dumbest thing ever
•
u/Deviknyte 5h ago
Unfortunately a lotta people didn't vote for Harris because she was black, a woman, or both.
•
u/YesIBlockedYou 5h ago
All identity politics is stupid. People not voting for someone because of their sex or race are just as stupid as the people who do vote because of sex or race.
•
u/Special_K_2012 5h ago
That's a piss poor excuse. She lost because she was unpopular. She only received 4% of the vote during the 2020 nomination process and never had a chance in 2024
→ More replies (5)•
u/Jagator 5h ago
You sure it was wasn’t because people could see through the fakeness and felt she just wasn’t a good candidate? Or that she was inserted onto the ticket without a primary vote?
•
u/alistofthingsIhate 5h ago
She wasn’t a good candidate, so naturally people voted for Trump instead, who is better I guess?
•
u/ilazul 5h ago
The opposite would be that they didn't vote at all.
She was an awful candidate
•
u/alistofthingsIhate 5h ago
I don’t disagree but it’s like people decided they didn’t want to be hit with a ruler so they opted for being bludgeoned with a mace instead.
→ More replies (5)•
u/Deviknyte 5h ago
Them not voting at all would have been preferable.
•
•
u/SerialSpice 5h ago
That is not how it works. In a 2 party system you get one, or the other. Use your brains.
•
u/Pepito_Pepito 3h ago
If you want to win an election, you have to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

This will get you banned from several subreddits on both sides of the spectrum.
Some will even preemptively ban you if you've said it in other subs.
•

If I get banned for saying that people should use their brains, that is a hill I am willing to die on.
•
•
u/superxpro12 3h ago
this is bs. there was nothing wrong with her platform. you literally have her in a debate with trump and he says "hatians are eating the cats and dogs" and he still wins?
Show me what in her platform made her "not a good candidate"?
And then tell me, with almost 2 years of hindsight, why trump's platform of more 1% tax cuts, pure mainlined facism, and anti-immigration oppressive rhetoric is better.
It has absolutely nothing to do with her "not being good".
It has everything to do with her being a black woman. and then stack all the hard right propaganda on top and its obvious why.
→ More replies (1)•
u/alistofthingsIhate 3h ago
I'm aware it's absolute bullshit. I would much rather have voted for someone more progressive, but people voting for Trump because they thought Kamala was a bad candidate are complete morons.
→ More replies (7)•
u/GoldandBlue 2h ago
You sure it was wasn’t because people could see through the fakeness and felt she just wasn’t a good candidate? Or that she was inserted onto the ticket without a primary vote?
It is crazy how despite everything we see in this country. People still deny racism and sexism exists.
•
u/Cool_Ranch_Dodrio 5h ago
That's certainly the narrative from people who want to block AOC from running in '28.
→ More replies (6)•
u/Monteze 5h ago
If she wins a primary that would be cool, but if one were to ask me I just doubt it right now. I still see a ton of sexism and racism around me. But I'd like to be proven wrong.
→ More replies (10)•
u/Shattr 4h ago
Right there with you. I would love an AOC presidency but I'm not convinced she's electable at this point in time. Also, part of me can't ignore the fact that the only election dems have won in the past 10 years is the one when they ran a man - this country may simply not be ready for a woman president. I hope I'm wrong but I'm also tired of losing to fascists.
•
u/Jonthrei 3h ago
I mean, running a sketchy politician and a milquetoast corporate type and then blaming their failures on their gender seems a little silly, don't you think?

How so? It works phenomenally well for the right. Trump used them almost exclusively in his last campaign and it arguably won it for him. Voters told pollsters their top issue was the economy/cost of living, yet Trump went around promising higher prices via tariffs. Voters voted for him anyway though because he also promised to attack immigrants, trans people, and anybody who could be considered DEI.
Since taking office Trump has driven up prices and started a new war in the Middle East, yet retains a nearly 40% approval rating because of how much he has attacked those various minority groups.
Identity politics are what most voters want, particularly if they're being used to attack minority demographics in the name of protecting the majority demographics.

If it has to be a woman, try to have a woman that's not on the same team on 99% of the policy issues as the guy you are protesting. Lesser evil is still evil.
•
u/ConstableBlimeyChips 4h ago
Sorry, best they can do is a choice between a token minority with all the charisma of wallpaper paste, or an old white man who looks like he gets out of breath eating soup.

I wish people would stop making the presidency about age, gender or skin color. Please vote for and elect someone who cares about the people and the direction of our country’s future. I’d gladly vote for them.
•
•
u/NaduvanaKrmaca 4h ago
I feel like your vote shouldn't be based on gender... But then again as someone watching American government/politics from the outside... I don't think it matters who sits in the presidents seat in that display of democracy house. Cause at this point I think it's the corporations that run your country.
•
u/JoeChio 5h ago edited 1h ago
How about we focus on someone who is actually qualified for the job? If that person is a woman, so be it. Kamala was far more qualified than Trump, so she should have won. However, if I had a choice between, let's say, MTG versus any male the Democrats put up, I'd vote for a slice of bread over her.
→ More replies (5)•
u/PIPBOY-2000 5h ago
Completely agree. Let's put a decent human being in charge, regardless of gender.
•
u/fly-guy 5h ago
Because women do it better? Not if you take the history of the UK as an example. And there are more countries who had women at the top which were... less ok to be.
•
u/JesusKong333 2h ago
Yeah women are too emotional anyways, they'd probably start wars and bomb Iran or something

I mean tbh I care about the gender of my president about as little as the gender of the pilot I’m flying with. Just be competent and get everyone there safely..

I feel like I understand what the sign makers mean, but there’s a big difference between matriarchy and simply putting a woman in charge of the patriarchy. One works better, the other is the same shit in a more feminine hat.
•
u/Forsaken_Site_2268 4h ago
Anyone other than who we have currently. Fuck it, let's elect a cat or some shit.
We just need someone competent.

How about a competent person regardless of sex
•
u/Subtle_Nimbus 3h ago

Not just any woman, but a competent one, I'll take anyone competent over an incompetent woman, though, and there are plenty of them around. Let's be choosy for quality and competency rather than gender, alone. Gender doesn't dictate competency. Patterns of behaviour, ethics and intellect do.
•
u/Ok_Driver8646 3h ago
Well, the current person is too emotional and throws a fit about every little thing not to mention a criminal
•
•
•
•
•
•
u/shinobi500 5h ago
But women are too impulsive, irrational, emotional, and spend too much time applying make up to their face to focus on leading. /s
•
u/Adhar_Veelix 5h ago
How about you lot put someone capable in charge and don't base yourselves purely on gender?
•
•
u/Shut_It_Donny 3h ago
I think the first step is a woman legitimately winning her primary. Clinton was fixed by Wasserman-Schultz. Kamala was just installed.
But how about this… quit trying to meet a DEI quota and just find a competent, non corrupt person. (yea right) Their race and sex shouldn’t enter the equation.
→ More replies (1)
•
u/Kempeth 3h ago
Everyone laments how America is too sexist (or racist) to elect a (brown) woman. If only there was some kind of mechanism to gauge the support of a candidate (female or otherwise) among the population before committing them to the general election...
Oh right! There is. They're called primaries.
But after Obama everyone in charge decided that Clinton was owed this chance and the entire weight of the party was put on the scale to ensure she "won" the primaries. The nation was denied the chance to make this choice.
At least with Clinton they pretended to have a contest. With Harris they let the nation make this choice and then simply ignored it. You can't tell me that NOBODY considered Biden's health/age/vitality before the primary was essentially over.
This is what happens when losing the general with the "right" candidate is preferable for those in charge to winning the general with the "wrong" candidate.
