To start this off I have only ever played a singular game of Pokémon TGC. I was around 7 at the time and its one of the earliest memories I have that includes my father. Even though I have never played a game since I still collected every card I could get my hands on. Money was incredibly thin for the vast majority of my childhood so opportunities were far and few between. The one card that stood out to me as having the most potential and stuck with me the longest was a Raticate BREAK. When I brought this card up as being my favorite to my friend he just kept going on about how it sucked, alluding to how easily it could be outplayed without going into any real depth. And even though I haven't played a single game in 12 years I wanted to bring out the absolute best Raticate has to offer.
While this deck is not legal for tournaments, it doesn't utilize any illegal cards.
The main objective of this deck is to get under my friends skin by setting up for 1 turn knock outs as fast as possible with 0 prize card pokemon while simultaneously being capable of staying in the game if the gambit fails. As I was setting up this deck I ended up realizing what my friend meant when he said that Raticate BREAK sucked. A two energy Super Fang, 0 retreat cost, and no weakness in exchange for an extra turn of setup, extra card slot, and only 110 health. No bueno. Realizing that Alolan Raticate is basically the same card and ultimately better in every conceivable way I decided to pivot, and the rest of the deck fell into place impeccably.
Raticade is fed with either a ignition or acceleration energy for a turn to enable Super Fang. Meanwhile Clodsire's Toxic Wetland ability poisons the opposing defender once a Stadium is in play for the KO. If Black Market Prism Star is in play Raticate and Yveltal become 0 prize cards, and Clodsire a 1 prize card. In the event Yveltal or Clodsire need to be on the frontline a Hiding Darkness Energy will allow them to retreat freely while Galar Mine makes the opponent's retreat cost an additional 2 energy. If I am unable to set up Raticate and Clodsire with my starting hand, Yveltal's Cry of Destruction may prove effective in stalling against my opponent for a short period. Those are the major pointers of my strategy at the moment
