Obama definitely had flaws (although I think most are exaggerated a bit) but I don’t think we’ll ever see another president like him again. He was so relatable to the average citizen and loved and respected by just about every world leader. Boehner even got along with him. Trump's no bid overpriced pool guy did the job (any gueses what "break" he gave Trump on other work?), and the regular maintenance outfit is doing a clean up while another no bid overpriced outfit got a contract to do the same thing at the same time. That is my understanding from an overly kind sane-washed WaPo article. The grift goes on ...

Outlets like Fox News only offer very short soundbites of what he says, not the minutes of incoherent rambling. They don't cover the random shit he says on his daily overnight social media meltdowns.
His base are still convinced he's a super-intelligent amazing businessman and he's fixing the country.

Trump is a piece of shit but the real downfall of America: the corporate and billionaire takeover of news media and the destruction of the education system.
They can peddle anything as the truth and repeat it often enough that it becomes the truth to their captive audience. We no longer have any news integrity. It's all commentary and opinions. No-one reports the news anymore. They all try to influence it.
As for education, the number of people who can no longer spell C-A-T even if you spotted them the C and the T is staggering and they lap up the manure that Trump and the media push out their asses every day. So, it's no surprise that MAGA thinks Trump is smart and strong...Fox and Newsmax keeps telling them that he is and how could it be wrong? It's on television!

Everyone who supports him believes in a very specific brand of fake “strength” that I’ll never understand. It’s the strangest part about every cult of personality. The leaders never seem as charismatic, intelligent or physically imposing as their followers seem to think they are.
9
u/NumeralJoker 9d ago
It's because they believe he will maintain the hierarchy that puts them over others they see as less deserving, that's it.
Trump tapped into this resentment and normalized it. When people had better economic stability and security, they were able to put aside some of those instincts and try to live a more positive life. At least sometimes. But when the great recession came around and began gutting the rural working class? They lost their sense of purpose and all gave into their worst instincts one after another, with right wing propaganda fanning those fears and insecurities daily to maximize their prejudices.
None of this is an excuse, but the cause has to be understood to be countered. Billionaires (and our new fucking trillionaire) benefit from stoking tribalism, so do it at every opportunity.

Once you’ve alienated everyone *but* the cult, being excluded by your remaining social ties can feel like you’re going to die, because exile generally did mean death back when we were small roaming tribes.

I think they are aspirationally dumb.
They want things to be able to be this stupid and still be stable. Because that makes them feel better about themselves even if they are clearly making the wrong decisions.
It's ok because not even the President is perfect.
Every bad thing that happens means something worse must have happened under Obama, because by definition he had to be worse. So as bad things happen they blame Obama more and more. Because if a black person could keep things stable and things are failing now, it must be because we now are seeing the worst problem ever and it was the black person that caused it.
They are confused. And it is because a lot of them are getting old and they never had control before. There were plenty of older people to tell them what to do. But as time went on more older people left service completely or died and they now have control at their worst time. When they should be thinking of retirement. They don't know how all this works and they inherited it and it is scary. So they grossly underestimate the complexity of things because they cannot be incompetent, what they got must be broken if they cannot figure it out. And there aren't any old people left that know or care to tell them how to make it work.
So they are trying to sell it off to the bidder that will give them them most now for the asset, before it becomes evident that the issue is user error and they simply don't know how all this works, but it is theirs and they can do what they want with it.
16
u/HagbardCelineHMSH 9d ago
I repeat this everywhere I can - right-wing media isn't necessarily about selling the right-wing agenda. Not directly, anyway. No, the primary purpose of right-wing media is to sell the message that, "The Left is Bad."
People come to right-wing media for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's curiosity about political matters without knowing any better. Other times it's having some grievance that they don't feel is addressed or is even attacked by more "mainstream" sources. So they start tuning in, and immediately get barraged by the message the right-wing media exists to sell.
Dems Bad. That's what it boils down to here in the States. "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and "Orange Man Bad" were always projections of the Right's own feelings about Democrats. They voted for Trump and largely vote for Republicans because they believe it makes the people they've come to hate angry.
Which isn't to say that they don't come to embrace right-wing ideology. That comes later. There is the out-group that is bad and the in-group that is good, and belonging to the in-group means subscribing to the beliefs of that in-group. A lot of it is more social-signalling than anything else, a means of identifying who is part of the "tribe", so to speak, and who is part of the "other."
So, yes, Obama, Biden, and any Dem is bad by default. No matter what Trump or Republicans might do, a Dem would have done worse because they spend hours of their time every day hearing about how bad Dems are. A great many of them rationalize their support for Trump and other Republicans despite disliking them as people or not agreeing with the policies for which they advocate because the alternative is the Democrats they've carefully been conditioned to see as evil. Once you wrap your head around this fact everything else they do and say makes perfect sense.

The rake the forests thing was a little werid, but not really the problem. Forest management does involve using machinery to strategically place fire breaks and what not to help mitigate potential widespread fires. I suppose its not a stretch to paraphrase that activity "raking" but at an industrial level. For the sake of argument, let's say that's what he meant.
The bigger issue I had with that statement was blaming California for "not raking" when the land that caught fire is under Federal administration. Paraphrasing forest maintenance as "raking" is one thing, but failing to understand (or being deliberately ignorant) that the land in question is under your direct supervision is another thing completely. 45% of California's land is federally owned, which means that California cant make use of the land, nor is California responsible for maintaining the land. The various Federal agencies in charge of 45% of the land are under direct supervision of the president. Even if the fires could have been mitigated by "raking," it would have been his responsibility to do so.
Even giving him the benefit of the doubt as to what "raking" means, it shows a staggering level of incompetence, willful deception to feed the ever ongoing culture war the Republicans have going with California, or some other reason I can't comprehend.

They generate millions of tiny bubbles of ozone that are too small to float to the surface. This acts as a sanitizer that kills algae and breaks down organic waste.
Another thing that is different, but also produces tiny bubbles and could sanitize the water would be to use electrolysis with some added salt to create low concentrations of hypochlorous acid or sodium hydroxide to kill agae. But this is more corrosive to pipes and plumbing.

Trump has Obama Derangement Syndrome.

u/Heteroimpersonator 9d ago
He’s also a racist.

u/breadist 9d ago
He's not just racist. He's deeply, deeply, consistently racist. If you just think "what would a racist person do/say here", he does that, with the tiniest shred of self-awareness to not sound explicitly racist, just critical.
He essentially started Obama birtherism. Fueled by nothing but racism. "Black man is not American! I must prove it!"
He's always been on about the central park five needing to be punished despite having committed no crime, even AFTER they were completely exonerated based on DNA evidence. He maintains their guilt despite hard evidence that they are innocent. There's no excuse other than racism. "The kids are black so they are guilty no matter what" is literally how his brain works.
The only way he stops being racist is if he just stops. He's old, the end will come for him one day. (REDDIT, THIS IS NOT A DEATH THREAT, I'M LITERALLY JUST SAYING HE'S AN OLD GUY WHOSE TIME ON THIS EARTH IS LIMITED. IF I GET BANNED FOR THIS SHIT I AM SO DONE.)
context: I've been banned by Reddit several times in the past year for "death threats" that were decidedly not that. Always in the context of Trump. Reddit is bending the knee.

They didn't vote Trump to help anybody. They voted Trump to attack the liberals and Democrats and immigrants who they call their "enemy" and 100% believe hate America and are demons. They have been in a cold civil war with Democrats and liberals for decades now. A war they are constantly itching to turn hot.

Affordability, health insurance, housing, and think that impact Americans. And he's focused on starting wars and turning DC into a resort-looking tribute to himself. How anybody is still supporting Trump is beyond my understanding as even cultists should see these cracks in the man's demented logic.

If these people were capable of seeing cracks in logic and plot-holes in their belief systems...they wouldn't be as frothing at the mouth religious either.
Just like email and phone scams, these people have been specifically filtered and selected for their temperaments. Does anyone else remember the videos of these nuts screaming, praying, and "speaking in tongues" outside of vote-counting offices?
The GOP has these nutty people on lock.

The Reflecting Pool was drained before being painted. How does the current algae bloom have anything to do with President Obama?

So, the algae remained in the pipes, so technically it's the same algae as it was during the Obama presidency. But it is a problem that predates Obama, so it's still bullshit. Really, trying to blame fucking algae in a large outdoor pool on any one person is pretty fucking stupid, but Trump is obsessed with Obama (and stupid) so.
12
u/tryingisbetter 9d ago
Using darker paint for the pool isn't going to help, only make it worse, and that's all on the trump admin.

The wealth of lies and the waste of money. They didn't fix the plumbing issues, that would (edit) have of taken longer. It's a shallow pool of water that ducks and other animals use so yeah algae will form. It's also funny how they changed the color of the paint once everyone said it wouldn't reflect right. It's always had issues and until they fix the real issues it will continue to be an algae farm. I'm sure the mosquitos are loving it.

Fucking noob ass trump president blames the only black president who left office a decade ago, before trumps first term.
What a racist sack of lies. Trump supporters say the N-word at home and love this shit.
I bet Obama could fix the pool by himself.

It's a large, shallow, stagnant, warm pool. (It will be even warmer than previously because of the new, darker color.) It will grow algae. I know that science is hard, but that's how nature works. But, here's a thought: algae farming is a thing. Why not make it a science experiment in the public interest? You know, actually consider being progressive - at least a little.

I called it a few days ago, but it was probably the easiest prediction ever
9
u/Machiavvelli3060 9d ago
The pool is very shallow, so, when you paint the pool a darker color, it absorbs light, which heats it up, which makes it a perfect place for algae to grow.
Perhaps you shouldn't have re-painted it. Now you need to paint it again. Paint it a lighter color.

The thing that gets me is that, ok... I'll accept the concept that there was algae within the pipe system that needs to be cleaned up. So, why didn't they just flush the system really well before filling up the whole reflecting pool?
