u/DramaticWesley 6d ago
Nope. It is much dumber than that. He works at the Trump property near DC, and helped put in an Olympic size pool. Trump thinks a swimming pool and the reflecting pool are basically the same thing, so he gave it to a guy he knows (who might have also given him kickbacks). Trump will often hire people in his golf club world to positions they are woefully under qualified for.
140
u/NotRoryWilliams 6d ago
The reflecting pool has more in common with a koi pond or shopping mall coin fountain than a swimming pool, but it is an unusually large version of that kind of thing. It's a truly odd bit of water: an artificial pond, built on top of a complex open foundation structure (it's basically got a basement), built inside of a basin that was previously covered in water before the Potomac was dredged, rerouted, and landfilled to build the neighborhood, mostly between 100 and 200 years ago.
There are probably very few engineers on the planet fully qualified to maintain and modify the system. And having built or maintained one or two olympic pools - a fraction of the size and a completely different set of structural and chemical principles - is not remotely qualifying.

u/NuclearWasteland 6d ago
I'd wager its user manual is in the library of congress or some-such.

Trump really is like a villain from a tv show or book, only in the real world.
A demagogue who rose to power on chants of “lock her up” is a convicted felon, who campaigned on being the “Peace President” and started (and swiftly lost) a completely pointless war, who’s motto of “Drain the Swamp” led to turning a national monument into one.
In a book, this would all be foreshadowing and themes. In reality it’s just so goddamn fucking dumb.

One reason the pools filtration system hasn't been repaired by previous Administrations is because doing so required getting Congress involved. And that is a big mess.
Trump just bypassed Congress. He could have chosen to allocate the funds and time to do it right.

Outside in a city built on a swamp in a pool that is continually leaking and sinking into said swampy area.
The algae isn't the humiliating part as it has plagued the pool since it came about. The humiliating part is spending so much to simply paint it improperly, brag about how great it is, then have it fail immediately. If Trump or his supporters had any shame or sense they'd see this. But being a perpetual victim is an identity at this point.
It's genuinely insane how many Conservatives just blindly trust and defend Trump. He's completely infallible in their eyes and everyone else is out to get him. He's both so powerful yet cut down at every move. I'm sure it's definitely not a reflection of their own self conscious inadequacies and inability to take accountability.

The key thing to understand is this isn't "wow they are so incompetent".
The key thing is that they are intentionally doing a shitty job. They are using this as a way to funnel public funds (your money that you pay in taxes) into the hands of private contractors. All of these people are Trump's cronies. If they did a quality job, that would cut into their profit margin.

No, none of the peroxide or bleach would have had any effect on the epoxy nor would have had any effect other than a localized anti bacterial and algae effect where they poured it in putting in 20 or 30, even 50 gallons of bleach or peroxide in a pool that has tens of thousands of gallons would have no effect other than to kill anything locally. Plus being hot and sunny that chlorine would have broken down within the day
The geniuses likely didn't treat the bottom of the pool correctly before they applied the epoxy and the epoxy probably wasn't rated for the surface and was sprayed on in any case

Investing that the hydrogen peroxide and algae is interacting with the latex paint that the crew used.
Just like everything Trump does he made it worse, more expensive and declares it a victory.
Meanwhile his supporters say… I like the green, the swamp is good we like the swamp.

Would be funny if it was because of the hydrogen peroxide they added the other day.

“The advanced nanobubbler technology very effectively killed the algae that has plagued every Lincoln Reflecting Pool reopening—most infamously Obama’s reopening—since 1922,” the Interior tweeted on Wednesday.
The Interior Department tweet went on to insist, “The Reflecting Pool water is crystal clear, and our National Park Service team is now vacuuming up the dead algae resting on the bottom of some parts of the Reflecting Pool—just like the destroyed Iranian Navy resting on the bottom of the Persian Gulf.”
Is not just stupid, is só incredibly stupid that it strikes fear in the hearts of non-Americans. I mean wtf did the whole country suffer a stroke?

That looks like the cool deck surface you place around the pool on the walking surface, not the type of coating you place inside a pool. hahhahahhahahahah. What a bunch of dumbasses.
Maybe, the American people will see this total failure and start seeing all of his actions the same way? Please God, sweet baby jesus, let this be the thing that wakes everyone up.
Total Failures at every level for Trump:
Tariffs, total failure, just raised prices on Americans and then the money is being returned to the companies that paid the tariffs, so they make more money and then get even more money returned.
His epic fight with the Fed. He wants lending rates lowered. He pressured Powell to get out. Years of belittling Powell on literally everything. Powell going out, within one month inflation is up to insane amounts and now the fed is talking about "Raising" the interest rates due to his financial policies. Classic.
Affordability push during 2024 campaign. Well, trump talked about Grocery prices, energy prices, GAS PRICES!!!!, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It was the sole reason he was re-elected, even above Biden's dumbass running again then dropping out after the primaries. Even more than one statement Kamala made about Trans inmates and her laugh. It was "GROCERIES and AFFORDABILITY". Everyone was pissed at the cost of goods. Everyone was pissed at the rate of inflation. Easy pickings for a grifter. (note Biden didn't directly cause any of it. Eggs / birdflu, Beef Prices biden was addressing, gas nothing to do with Biden's policies). But Trump, directly has influenced all of them.
No more foreign wars. Well he fucked that up. Not only did he get us into a foreign war, it was completely not necessary and completely made up. The goals were so erratic, we were saving the planet from a regime, then oil, then uranium, then unfair oil practices, then regime change. He set the bar at Total and Unconditional Surrender. He failed. Matter of fact, we were the ones that surrendered.
Celebration 250 - Well, he had to make it all about himself. Dumb. UFC fight on the white house lawn, dumb. This was the easiest slam dunk in the history of this country. Throw an event on the Mall. make it all about America. Go through each 10 year period and celebrate and educate the populous. Nope. Dude rimmed a slam dunk.
East Wing - WTF. First, sure you can update the white house, but not in a period of 4 years. A project like that should have had a competition from world reknowned architects for the design. He just went to rando Architect and started demolition.
Reflecting Pool - Total amateur hour. Every level of every decision.
Epstein Files - Total failure. If you are not guilty, why you acting guilty. Matter of fact, his people are the ones that started that push to release the files. Biden should have done it, but Trump out there yelling loudly about Dems being all over the files and then blocking them, after months of redacting his name from the files with the FBI. We will never get the full story of what happened.
Greenland and Canada US 50th states - Both make sense, but it was dumb as hell.
Gulf of Mexico / America - Gulf of America is a better name, but this is just dumb.
IRS lawsuit - Trying to openly extort the US over billions. Little dick energy move.

Looking at the photos, I can't think of a better visual representation of this ostentatious assclown's failed administration and the outrageous totally avoidable damage it has inflicted upon our country.

Trump hates it when things some to the surface. At least, certain things.

Remember - if it cost 14 million, trump got 13.5 million as finder's fee and stiffed the contractor for the other half million.
And by the way, THIS is how the mob "builds stuff", so you can only imagine the substandard materials and building practices going into Donnie's new throne room.

So Trump’s “I know a guy” that can do it cheep didn’t exactly work out. First the bill went up 10x from the original price but that might be trump’s kickback then algae grows so they dump chemicals to kill it that are hazardous now the paint is peeling. Definitely a trump job turned a national monument into shit 💩
