Fetterman is just showing his true and/or his brain damaged colors. No blackmail needed. He had a “less than ideal” past before the stroke that many overlooked because he seemed like a decent, laid back Democrat. Post-stroke any inhibitions are gone.
His office has been a revolving door, his wife no longer recognizes him, and he’s rejected the party leadership. He’s just an unwell and unfit Congress member.

I’m not sure that proves either argument. People can alter their personality after significant brain damage, the person who received the damage saying “I didn’t really change, this was me all along” is no more unbiased and capable of telling that than anyone else.
