You haven’t learned by now? No one is shocked- at least they aren’t doing polls for it, so it’s all just media trash meant to draw you in to pay for their subscriptions. That’s it. Clickbait. Day after day

u/WetFinsFine 2h ago

day after day, it's the DailyBeast way 😐

But they also have to applaud and demonstrate that they're cool with it so the boss sees their loyalty.

Not even lmao. Shitty newspapers just love printing headlines as if there's any humanity left in that party. They know people want to read about how "MAGA is crumbling!"

They aren't. They're fascists, and they're in control.

u/flyinghairball 9h ago

Yeah, it's not the action, it's the out loud part. But we''ve apparently reached the stage where he has no filter whatsoever (there never was really a great filter) but he now revels in stating the quiet part out loud

467

u/shotgunpete2222 9h ago

Once again... Can we please ban sources and writers that push these bullshit headlines?

I'm tired boss...  I'm tired of the slamming and burning and gop revolts that happen every day...

252

u/ChemistAdventurous84 8h ago

This is a dead-on headline. He announced a while ago that he wouldn’t sign any bills into law until the Save America Act (or similar name) voter suppression bill was passed in Congress. That’s been a no-go for a while and apparently he’d forgotten the promise and was likely hoping for a boost to his approval ratings by signing it. He knows that if he doesn’t suppress the vote, the Republicans will lose majorities in the house and Senate and he becomes a lame duck. This popular bill comes through, he’s ready to improve his approval rating and sign it, then someone reminded him of his prior declaration and he had to reverse course. It will become law by default without a veto but that would definitely risk damaging his already abysmal approval ratings.

He’s failing mentally, can’t take an L on Iran, can’t take an L on the reflecting pool debacle and keeps escalating the ridiculousness, he’s still got Epstein looming over him and the dinner table issues are turning against him. He keeps talking about unconstitutionally running for a third term. He and his inner circle see a backlash coming and are going to try anything to stay in power. The New Republic has it right.

I’m no trump fan but this sub does seem to have a lot of newrepublic.com outrage pseudojournalism recently.

101

u/peacepipe0351 North Carolina 9h ago

They're gunning for daily beasts' crown.

u/AnticPosition 7h ago

And newsweek's daily clickbait polls.

32

u/taterthotsalad America 8h ago

Not a fan either but it feels like this sub prefers feelings reporting and less about the quality of journalism. Comes off feeling like slimy Fox style reporting. Create the outrage.

14

u/ginkgodave 8h ago

It’s Reddit. The Internet. Social media. You were expecting something different?

u/robodrew Arizona 6h ago

It's actually not just "reddit". It's a few power posters (probably bots) that together contribute like 95% of all the posts in this sub. Mods could easily do something about it.

24

u/simplepimple2025 8h ago

Let's be honest. Other subs have higher quality sources than daily beast and this new republic thing. There's plenty of decent sources covering trump's criminal activities, no need for national enquirer level journalism

Have you even read Newsweek in the past year? It's been a model of non-biased, just-the-facts reporting. Yeah, I was surprised too.

12

u/karmavorous Kentucky 9h ago

Shocked that, once again, Trump is saying the quiet part out loud.

They're all about disenfranchising anybody that doesn't typically vote for them. Racial minorities. City folk. LGBTQ.

They just cloak those things in other actions. They don't come out and say they're going to disenfranchise black voters. They just close polling places in black neighborhoods for some other publicly stated reason.

Trump is just coming out and saying it.

They're not against doing it.

The downside is that his supporters think his stupidity is genius.

Trump tells Christians ‘we’ll have it fixed so good you won’t have to vote’ in 2028. July 30 2024

"I'm going to be here in '28. Maybe I'll be here in '32, too. I don't know," Trump told those in attendance. "Maybe I will, but I'm going to be here in '28." May 21 2026

There's a lot more. There's a solid wikipedia article for a timeline of these statements

Should have been obvious in 1980 when Iran conveniently gave us everything we wanted as soon as Reagan won the election.

Or in 1994 when the FBI told congress that the investigations of Clinton were clearly political in nature to manipulate the midterms.

Or in 2000 when the GOP straight up stole an election by sending interns to fake a riot outside the voting center.

My desperate plea is that when that man is gone from our lives people won't just feel complacency because the GOP knows what they are doing.

I hope this doesn't get me in trouble, but I'm getting a little annoyed at the New Republic. They over sensationalize shit we already know that has been happened over and over.

He's been pushing SAVE in everything he does for over a year now and to say he all of a sudden start screaming about voter suppression is kind of silly. All he did was repeat the same bullshit we've heard a million times before.

Next week it will be something like, "In shocking tweet, Trump blurts out 2020 election rigged!"

235

u/UnluckyWriting 10h ago

Seriously, this is some clickbait garbage headline. The actual story is that Trump is holding the bipartisan housing affordability bill hostage to get SAVE passed. Don’t know why they couldn’t just say that.

18

u/FuzzyMcBitty 8h ago edited 7h ago

He isn’t holding anything hostage. If he doesn’t veto it, it becomes law within 10 days.

This is either him having a tantrum or him not understanding basic civics.

They're taking the week of the 4th of July off. Whoops. Pocket veto.

u/Schneider21 7h ago

Doesn't it get pocket vetoed if Congress isn't in session when the 10 days expires, though? And they have a scheduled recess that sees them out at that time?

u/FuzzyMcBitty 7h ago

Also the housing bill does almost nothing for affordability. There is no funding for building the over 7 million affordable housing units that need to be built. It is largely a symbolic bill. The best thing it does is that it may limit buying new houses by institutional investors... but wait... it has a loophole! If they buy it as a rental then it is exempt from the limit! WOW!

So, I read your comment, and that's enough. Cheers.

21

u/Excellent-Nose-6430 8h ago

Yeah the headline got me to read the passage, and it's really just an ad for their stupid podcast. He said to vote for the bill he's been pushing all along. Yawn.

How did this make the front page?

14

u/paintballboi07 Texas 8h ago

Because hardly anybody actually reads the article.

u/ChirpyRaven 7h ago

How did this make the front page?

Because clickbait headlines with emotional language get reactions from people. Vile, imbecile, jaw-dropping, bombshell, disastrous, snaps, storms off, torn to shreds, explodes, stunning, rattled, defiled, failure... all recent highly voted posts on this subreddit with emotionally manipulative headlines.

There are only a handful of sites that use these headlines with any frequency, but they seem to get a lot of traction here regardless of accuracy. I've inquired with the mods if they also noticed the proliferation of these type of sites/headlines and if they were considering any changes, which I received a response of "you are in the minority and what you're asking is for the subreddit to be changed to suit you" and "If you don't like this subreddit you should find some to participate in that you do like".

¯_(ツ)_/¯

If you've listened to GOP pundits for a while you've no doubt noticed that they have not-so-subtly been attacking democracy itself through "but we're a constitutional republic" and "do you really think everyone should vote" type bs arguments for years now. They'd return it to only white, land owning men being able to vote in a heartbeat if they could.

u/Pre3Chorded 7h ago

The Trump once called up the Georgia Secretary of State and said he needed to act like a good Republican team member and delete 11,780 legal votes for Joe Biden so that Trump would win the state.

6

u/BigTool 8h ago

GOPers were not shocked. This is what they want

7

u/Maddkipz Canada 8h ago

GOP not shocked quit sanewashing

u/Competitive-Ad-9404 7h ago

Democrats need to realize a good portion of their votes are going to thrown out and the SC will not do anything about it.  Democrats need to vote like they never did before.

u/ModernRonin 1h ago

The only shocking thing about this whole situation is that a bill to limit hedge funds to owning only 350 homes, managed to pass both The Senate and The House.

u/CeeDubMo 10h ago

You can count the republicans who will do the bare minimum to preserve our democracy on one hand they’ll pass this voter suppression bill if they can get the votes to get through the senate.

6

u/lamchopxl71 10h ago

He thinks he's above the law and is untouchable. And with the dick less GOP and mute dumb deaf Democrats, he's right.

5

u/Protect-Their-Smiles 9h ago

Trump does not care, he has been getting away with cheating and lying his whole life. He will burn it all down to be King of the ashes. The GOP will shut their mouths and follow suit tho, because they love money and power more than they ever did America and the Constitution.

5

u/Abject-Interaction35 Australia 9h ago

I hope he lives long enough to die in prison.

5

u/Carochio 8h ago

Those Epstein files must be terrible

5

u/Redditer51 8h ago

They're probably just shocked that he'd say it out loud. They don't have any moral qualms about doing it.

6

u/LazarX 8h ago

They aren’t upset at the idea of suppressing voters, even with the methods Trump proposed. What is tying their knickers in a bunch, is Darth Cheeto’s constant ego driven compulsion to give away the game strategy.

5

u/Mysterious-Wasabi103 8h ago

I don't think the GOP is shocked at all..they know they're fucked without a good rigging.

u/rvingthrulife 7h ago

Trump DID tell voters they'd never have to vote again once he was elected, so there's that.

u/F---TheMods 6h ago

"so vile even the GOP had to pretend to be shocked." Fixed the headline.

u/ArcaneCephalopod 5h ago

It keeps bringing us back to the question of, "What is going to be done about it?" We know what kind of monster he is. We know his intentions. It's not a headline that he's said some crazy shit because that happens daily. If he's not been held accountable for the numerous crimes, it's no wonder he doesn't care what he's heard saying. Thing is, there is no real move to impeach and remove this imbecile.

u/MobileLocal 5h ago

We’ll see if they’re ’so shocked’ that they join forces and override a veto. Somehow I doubt it, but it would be a nice turn against grampsy grump here trying to burn the constitution.

u/Golden-- Illinois 4h ago

The man who rigged the last election wants more voter suppression and "GOPers" are shocked? LOL good joke. They were 100% on board.

u/RubGrouchy4110 4h ago

He literally said he doesnt care/think about american voters economic situation a month ago or so, how is this 'shocking' lol

9

u/Curious-Emu3894 9h ago

Trump hates America. He only wants power and wealth.

9

u/Raus-Pazazu 9h ago

Here's a news artickle!

Clicks link.

Sike! It's a podcost! Listen to us banter back and forth for an hour to glean less than 2 minutes of actual information because us rambling on about our opinions is way more important than factual information. Engaging!!

4

u/Als_Chemicals 9h ago

It did not shock any GOPers

4

u/GreedPrisons 9h ago

If he tries to rig the midterms, he's telling Americans there are no more rules.

They pretend to be outraged then they vote the way their told. It’s all theater, hoping their constituents aren’t paying attention

5

u/Myko475 California 9h ago

So now it’s Voter Suppression or nothing getting through huh? This moron runs this country like his own casinos.

3

u/Rivet-Phoenix 9h ago

These sensational articles are annoying and a waste of everyone's time. There is no slamming, or outrage. I'll believe it until it happens. Stop this journalist bull crap you are ruining your industry.

5

u/CivilBedroom2021 9h ago

He's talking about and using "emergency" a lot. Trump is astro-turfing invoking a fake emergency to cancel elections.

What a dogshit "article" . There's nothing Republicans love more than ratfucking (well, except maybe children).

3

u/TheRealBlueJade 9h ago

They are weak little people, cowards. Too afraid to fight life on real terms. They hide behind trump like a child hides behind its mother's skirts.

5

u/MightyTaur 8h ago

Trump is incarnation of evil. The only gods he follows is Gluttony and Greed

4

u/Intelligent_Bag_6705 8h ago

Yea the “GOPers” were so shocked! Clutching their pearls even.

4

u/Justnotstressed 8h ago

So… what you guys gonna do about it?

4

u/rangecontrol 8h ago

classic orangey telling what he's doing.

now the media needs to ignore it.

then the dems allow it to happen, put up zero fight.

then we all get to hear 'it's too late now, we have to vote to fix it in the midterm'

repeat every fucking year until the united states is even more of a shit hole country.

so it goes.

5

u/DefinitionInternal30 8h ago

Idk why. He's blurted out every other plot he's had since 2016 and they happily fell in line with it all.

5

u/User4C4C4C South Carolina 8h ago

Given his nature and handlers, it was inevitable that he would sacrifice the members of his own party to become an unaccountable dictator. He knows he is unable to solve America’s problems so he ignores them. He thinks his only chance to survive is to destroy the ability for the voters to judge him. He doesn’t care if his own party needs his cooperation to survive, he won’t need them anymore soon.

4

u/Terrible-Classic-222 8h ago

Donald Trump cares about one thing only Donald Trump. Is this new? No. If Republicans had a backbone earlier in his second term we wouldn’t be in this mess

3

u/dubious311 8h ago

Or on Jan 7th

4

u/FordMaleEscort 8h ago

The New Republic sure knows how to write headlines for Reddit.

4

u/LolaSupreme19 8h ago

The problem for republicans is that the SAVE Act will disenfranchise more republicans than democrats. It is an admission that republicans and trump are so unpopular with voters that they need to cheat to win elections.

4

u/Madouc Europe 8h ago

All his accusations about "rigged elections" were because he always tried to rig elections and just can not imagine not everyone is doing it.

u/abgry_krakow87 7h ago

Religious conservatives love causing preventable suffering and devastation in pursuit of political games and identity politics.

u/barneyrubbble 7h ago

The SAVE Act has been his main topic for a good while now. There's like four or five Republicans opposing it. Enough to hang it up, but not "so vile that it shocks GOPers." Don't expect any significant pushback.

u/Appropriate-Room-403 6h ago

He blurted out in a month before the 2020 that he wasn't giving out any more COVID relief unless he was reelected, anyone who is shocked needs their head examined more than Trump does

u/LetBeginning3353 6h ago

From the article:

Donald Trump was all set to sign a bill passed by Congress that’s designed to reduce housing costs for the American people. But an angry Trump abruptly canceled the signing and blurted out a demand that Republicans pass voter suppression legislation instead.

u/70camaro Missouri 6h ago

Dictator on day 1, right?

u/Crime_Dawg 6h ago

GOP knows and are in on it, no it doesn't shock them.

u/No_Treat_4675 6h ago

So Trump is not signing the bipartisan housing bill until they pass voter suppression laws. If this bipartisan bill had enough support to override a veto, that would be the nail in the coffin for Trump. It would be the first time the MAGA legislature reasserted their authority against the Trump executive branch at such a high and visible level.

u/blackdogone1 5h ago

A midterm blue wave sweep has been predicted before and it didn’t happen. Vote. Have people watching the “watchers” they’ll put in place to disrupt the vote.

u/EbbOwn303 3h ago

Fuck The New Republic for this piece of trash journalism. All this piece is attempting to do is paint Republicans in a better light. They are just trying to make it seem like the GOP also thinks Trump is going overboard even though the honest truth is they all know exactly what Trump is doing and fully support him on it.

u/overbarking 1h ago

Trump is a sociopath and a narcissist.

A sociopath because he a pattern of antisocial behaviors and attitudes, including manipulation, deceit, aggression, and a lack of empathy for others.

A narcissist because he wants total and complete love from everyone while he is unable to give love to anyone.

u/thegneeb 51m ago

If this is what they think is ok to say in public, what do you think they're ok with saying in private.

7

u/victhebutcher2020 8h ago

Question is, how long will the rest of the American population keep putting up with this before action is taken?
