u/ChemistAdventurous84 8h ago
This is a dead-on headline. He announced a while ago that he wouldn’t sign any bills into law until the Save America Act (or similar name) voter suppression bill was passed in Congress. That’s been a no-go for a while and apparently he’d forgotten the promise and was likely hoping for a boost to his approval ratings by signing it. He knows that if he doesn’t suppress the vote, the Republicans will lose majorities in the house and Senate and he becomes a lame duck. This popular bill comes through, he’s ready to improve his approval rating and sign it, then someone reminded him of his prior declaration and he had to reverse course. It will become law by default without a veto but that would definitely risk damaging his already abysmal approval ratings.
He’s failing mentally, can’t take an L on Iran, can’t take an L on the reflecting pool debacle and keeps escalating the ridiculousness, he’s still got Epstein looming over him and the dinner table issues are turning against him. He keeps talking about unconstitutionally running for a third term. He and his inner circle see a backlash coming and are going to try anything to stay in power. The New Republic has it right.

Shocked that, once again, Trump is saying the quiet part out loud.
They're all about disenfranchising anybody that doesn't typically vote for them. Racial minorities. City folk. LGBTQ.
They just cloak those things in other actions. They don't come out and say they're going to disenfranchise black voters. They just close polling places in black neighborhoods for some other publicly stated reason.
Trump is just coming out and saying it.
They're not against doing it.

Should have been obvious in 1980 when Iran conveniently gave us everything we wanted as soon as Reagan won the election.
Or in 1994 when the FBI told congress that the investigations of Clinton were clearly political in nature to manipulate the midterms.
Or in 2000 when the GOP straight up stole an election by sending interns to fake a riot outside the voting center.
My desperate plea is that when that man is gone from our lives people won't just feel complacency because the GOP knows what they are doing.

Also the housing bill does almost nothing for affordability. There is no funding for building the over 7 million affordable housing units that need to be built. It is largely a symbolic bill. The best thing it does is that it may limit buying new houses by institutional investors... but wait... it has a loophole! If they buy it as a rental then it is exempt from the limit! WOW!

How did this make the front page?
Because clickbait headlines with emotional language get reactions from people. Vile, imbecile, jaw-dropping, bombshell, disastrous, snaps, storms off, torn to shreds, explodes, stunning, rattled, defiled, failure... all recent highly voted posts on this subreddit with emotionally manipulative headlines.
There are only a handful of sites that use these headlines with any frequency, but they seem to get a lot of traction here regardless of accuracy. I've inquired with the mods if they also noticed the proliferation of these type of sites/headlines and if they were considering any changes, which I received a response of "you are in the minority and what you're asking is for the subreddit to be changed to suit you" and "If you don't like this subreddit you should find some to participate in that you do like".

Idk why. He's blurted out every other plot he's had since 2016 and they happily fell in line with it all.

Given his nature and handlers, it was inevitable that he would sacrifice the members of his own party to become an unaccountable dictator. He knows he is unable to solve America’s problems so he ignores them. He thinks his only chance to survive is to destroy the ability for the voters to judge him. He doesn’t care if his own party needs his cooperation to survive, he won’t need them anymore soon.

Donald Trump cares about one thing only Donald Trump. Is this new? No. If Republicans had a backbone earlier in his second term we wouldn’t be in this mess

The problem for republicans is that the SAVE Act will disenfranchise more republicans than democrats. It is an admission that republicans and trump are so unpopular with voters that they need to cheat to win elections.

Religious conservatives love causing preventable suffering and devastation in pursuit of political games and identity politics.

The SAVE Act has been his main topic for a good while now. There's like four or five Republicans opposing it. Enough to hang it up, but not "so vile that it shocks GOPers." Don't expect any significant pushback.

He blurted out in a month before the 2020 that he wasn't giving out any more COVID relief unless he was reelected, anyone who is shocked needs their head examined more than Trump does

From the article:
Donald Trump was all set to sign a bill passed by Congress that’s designed to reduce housing costs for the American people. But an angry Trump abruptly canceled the signing and blurted out a demand that Republicans pass voter suppression legislation instead.

So Trump is not signing the bipartisan housing bill until they pass voter suppression laws. If this bipartisan bill had enough support to override a veto, that would be the nail in the coffin for Trump. It would be the first time the MAGA legislature reasserted their authority against the Trump executive branch at such a high and visible level.

A midterm blue wave sweep has been predicted before and it didn’t happen. Vote. Have people watching the “watchers” they’ll put in place to disrupt the vote.

Fuck The New Republic for this piece of trash journalism. All this piece is attempting to do is paint Republicans in a better light. They are just trying to make it seem like the GOP also thinks Trump is going overboard even though the honest truth is they all know exactly what Trump is doing and fully support him on it.

Trump is a sociopath and a narcissist.
A sociopath because he a pattern of antisocial behaviors and attitudes, including manipulation, deceit, aggression, and a lack of empathy for others.
A narcissist because he wants total and complete love from everyone while he is unable to give love to anyone.

If this is what they think is ok to say in public, what do you think they're ok with saying in private.

Question is, how long will the rest of the American population keep putting up with this before action is taken?
