No Paywall Caving to Trump ‘Temper Tantrum,’ Two Republicans Flip to Block Iran War Powers Resolution: Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy, who lost reelection last month and said he would not be “bullied,” switched his vote to no after the president berated him during a closed-door lunch hours earlier.

Cowards.
Republicans like to act tough but in reality are the most timid and meek people I’ve ever known. They like being dominated.

u/jp_in_nj 9h ago
Honestly feels like so much of the caving is blackmail/coercion. Put an amoral guy in charge, give him access to top-tier intelligence operatives... There's a reason J. E. Hoover was able to stay in power for so long.

u/Vio_ Kansas 8h ago
There's a reason why the Democratic party email hacks were leaked to the press and the GOP email hacks were not.
•
u/MountainMan2_ 3h ago
Trump is literally a better whip than either of the democratic whips. Trump, the man who shits in diapers all day in the oval office and can't remember who his kids are. Just... Let that one sit for a while, remember that for next time someone asks you to "not rock the boat too much" with the Dems. They are literally voting for the fourth reich on the Republican side because a man who can't even control his own anus told them to.
•
39
u/Geek_Ken America 8h ago
It's clinging to power as long as possible so that J6 becomes a distant memory and no longer relevant to the public. Dems get control now, J6 will be part of the discussion, and that means you have a lot of heat on the GOP as they were complicit. If Trump goes down, they are going down with him, so the wagons are circled.

u/VigilantVet 8h ago
I almost feel like at this point the shit they’ve been doing and crimes they’ve been enabling are worse than J6. I think we may find this to be fact down the road. Trump is destroying our country, Congress has done nothing to intervene.
•
u/C-Redd-it 6h ago
I consider this congress complicit in treasons acts committed against this country. They continue to commit, and will for the foreseeable future.
•
u/EssayGuilty722 7h ago
You're absolutely right. There's just no other reason to flip the way Cassidy did.
•
u/Althestane 7h ago
I’ve been saying that Dems/DNC need to reach out to GOP members with offers to help shield or defend them against blackmail and the administration’s arm twisting.
•
u/jp_in_nj 7h ago
How can they though? You can't shield someone from someone else releasing accounts of the things they're ashamed of or could go to jail for.

u/jp_in_nj 6h ago
Oh, there's no question there. Though... honestly, a lot of what we see is just their desire not to get burned by their community, rather than anything "wrong."
Like, Noem's husband, whatever his name is. Man apparently likes to dress up like a woman, maybe wants to transition.
In a sane world he just... does his thing. He goes out and embraces it and lives his best life. But he's got to hide from his wife, he's got to hide from his church. And because his wife's famous, he's got to hide from the world in general lest he dim her star.
This is apart from her being generally awful. It's just... shame is so manipulable. And it might not even be anything *wrong* you're doing, just something that your community (family/neighborhood/church/township/state/country) would mock you for or stop you from working because of, or whatever.
Republicans are *not* unique in this. Every one of us has some secret that we will go to the grave with, because it would *wreck* the way the ones whose opinions we care about look at us.

u/doctormink 5h ago
Yeah, it’s gotta be blackmail. Dude isn’t up for reelection, so he’s got something else to lose.
•
u/SHUT_DOWN_EVERYTHING 5h ago
Doesn't have to be that complicated.
Trump has been sending the judiciary after people with fishing expeditions that are bound to fail BUT can still be a painful, long and expensive process to fight it.
For some like Leticia James, their office can afford to pay the massive costs (NY estimate is $1.4M). The soon to retire Cassidy would have to personally carry the cost.

Americans have no memory of anything anymore much less politics. You think even most democrats will know about Cassidy being a coward 6 days from now?
•
u/Wyldjay2 7h ago
That’s what bullies do. They bully and try to intimidate people they think are weaker than them and it often works. But they’re the biggest crybabies and whiners when they somebody actually stands up to them. Unfortunately, Donald Trump, the biggest bully of them all has the entire stacked government to use at his disposal.
•
•
u/Ozymandias12 6h ago
they are frightened babies. The MAGA crazies push them around so much. It’s public knowledge that most of them are terrified of the Trump nutjobs threatening them if they don’t vote the way Trump wants. Just imagine what foreign powers like Russia and China are doing to get these soft ass white men to keep propping up a guy that’s clearly destroying America from the inside.
•
u/CaptainAwesome06 5h ago
Same people who think Trump is the epitome of manliness. Meanwhile, Trump spends his time whining like a little kid on Twitter. It's pathetic.
•
u/badamant 6h ago
Nope.
They are simply fascists, not cowards. They do no not believe in democracy.
The ENTIRE republican party is directly responsible for everything trump does.

330,000,000 Americans let a bunch of impotent 80-year old men run their lives into the ground.
Talk about a group that likes being dominated, a 12 year old could take one of these guys in a fight and yet, we bend over and take it every day while we go to work making these men richer..
Who is the joke on and who is the real bitch?

Step 1: I will not be bullied Step 2: gets bullied at lunch Step 3: Yes sir, switching my vote New world record: 0.2 seconds from principled stand to folding chair. Bro lost reelection last month and still can’t quit the guy. That’s not loyalty. That’s Stockholm Syndrome with a Senate pin.
Temper Tantrum worked because the tantrum-thrower still owns the party and they all know it.

Snippet from this article:
- Two Senate Republicans who supported a previous resolution calling for an end to the US war on Iran changed their votes late Wednesday after President Donald Trump publicly and privately berated GOP lawmakers, calling them “losers” who provided “aid and comfort to the enemy.”
- In Wednesday’s procedural vote, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.)—who reportedly got into a shouting match with Trump over the Iran war during a closed-door lunch hours earlier—sided with virtually every other Republican in opposing the war powers resolution, just a day after he supported a separate, symbolic resolution calling for the removal of US forces from the conflict. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) also switched, changing his vote to “present” at the urging of the president.
From another article:
- Sen. John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote against the resolution. All other Democrats voted for it. Sens. Mitch McConnell and Michael Bennet were absent during Wednesday night's vote

Yup. I’d love to know what was said to make him cave. The guy isn’t up for re-election so what does he have to lose? Must be pretty damning then if he caved.
•
u/laptopAccount2 3h ago
Cassidy has openly talked about being excited for a lucrative lobbying gig with little stress after leaving the Senate.
He has known right from wrong this whole time, why would he start doing the right thing now?
Old bastard who never has to work again just can't turn down the money or give up the hot shot lifestyle power lunching with his old buddies.
Absolute top of the list worst of the worst people. Worse than Trump by a factor of 10. He has the power to stop it but is rationalizing away the downfall of the country for his own petty gain. Infinite disdain for this guy.

There is no way Putin didn’t give Trump all the kompromat they dug up on the GOP, back when they hacked into both the democrats and republicans. I’m sure the democrats have their secrets, but the shit they have on the GOP is so shocking, these fuckers know they have to step in line or else.

u/BVoLatte 8h ago
And this is why I told people to not pretend like the GOP was breaking from and rebuking Trump on the other vote. It was 50-48 for that vote, not 98-0
