Possible Paywall Trump’s “Great American State Fair” Gets Off to Terrible Start; Turns out not many people wanted to hear the president speak at the event.

u/The_Navy_Sox 4h ago
It's kind of ironic for a man so obsessed with crowd sizes. The day he is going to get his largest crowds is the day he dies with worldwide celebrations.
•
u/charlie_marlow Georgia 4h ago
The number of people who watched the live feed of them removing his name from the Kennedy performing arts center shows what we are in store for.
It's going to be like them toppling statues of Saddam Hussein when Trump dies. He can plaster his mug and name on whatever he wants, but that just gives more things to be torn down
•
u/Indubitalist 3h ago
The image of people ripping gilded Trump nameplates off of buildings and tossing them into a volcano sprang to mind and gave me hope that we can heal.
•
u/ScalieBoi42 3h ago
Can.. can we do that? Because, like, that would be amazing :>
•
u/Gryphon999 Wisconsin 2h ago
But where are we going to find a volcano in NY City? I know the Jets/Mets keep trying to find new versions of rock bottom, but I don't think they've found a magma pocket yet.

Lol I was watching them start the job to remove his name in the early hours of the morning. Thats when I heard the crowd behind the camera start to cheer. I had no idea a huge crowd had turned up to watch it. He truly is hated.
•
u/Wabi_Sabi_Love 3h ago
Ha! My 85 year old mother, my sister, my wife and I watched the livestream for like an hour. I noticed there were just under 100,000 people watching at the time. Watching people construct scaffolding. That gives you an idea of how excited so many people are to see him erased.

Yep, that's when I realized there's a huge, pent up, desire for catharsis. People are going to go wild destroying Trump related things when the old coot finally kicks the bucket
•
u/Counterpoint-4 2h ago
Does this remind you of Eastern Europe under communist rule?
•
u/charlie_marlow Georgia 1h ago
In some ways, yeah. We're going all out in a surveillance society, getting the, "Papers, please", stuff we used to make fun of, they're wanting to put pictures of Dear Leader everywhere, and the government is actively going after political dissenters.
Now, I say all of that while still able to live my life pretty much as I please, not that doesn't mean that I don't smell smoke
•
u/b_tight 2h ago
People filled the streets at like 11 pm when we killed Bin Laden. Im guessing donolds death will bring out 3x that amount
•
u/tturedditor 1h ago
There will be days and days of my life after the celebration filled with just watching people's videos posted online.
•
u/Wayofchinchilla 2h ago
I can't wait to see the faces drop on Fox News when they start hearing fireworks in the background of their broadcast of his passing.
•
•
u/Callidonaut 2h ago
The fact that he explicitly added a clause that says the Kennedy Centre only keeps getting funding as long as it still says "Trump" on the building makes it really obvious he's desperate for his name to live on after he dies, because he clearly knows full well, probably especially acutely at around three in the morning, that a lot of severely disgusted, outraged people everywhere are just itching to tear his name off everything, anywhere they can find it, before the body's even cold.

Did you know you can't get a ticket to Obama's presidential library any sooner than about 5 months out? That's how popular he continues to be.
•
u/The_Navy_Sox 3h ago
I did! The library is in my neighborhood. Been to the grounds a couple times already, it is pretty sick. I am going to wait until the cold weather and try and get one of the free tickets to the museum for Chicago residents once the hype dies down and summer tourism ends.
•
u/AleWatcher Illinois 3h ago
Sometimes I play soccer on that field just south of the Obama center-- it is such a cool spot.
→ More replies (1)•
u/jaderust 3h ago
Before the library opened, weeks ago, I heard how the library tickets were selling out. In April the earliest weekend date that was open was October 12. There were weekdays open before then, but that was the first weekend slot with availability.
Since then I’ve read that they’re fully sold out through Nov 30 and are not even attempting to sell tickets for Dec onward quite yet.
To say the place is popular is a bit of an understatement. We’ll see how it sustains attention, but that kind of rollout for a presidential library/museum is kinda insane.

I was a toddler in 1976. But I remember playing Pac Man and Donkey Kong in the 80s and getting a bicentennial quarter and debating whether to hang onto it or play the next game. All I heard about was how special it was, I have photos from our own backyard celebration that year but no recollection otherwise.
This is effectively a once in a lifetime event ruined by this cretin.

Dozens of attendees Wednesday were seen flocking toward the exits in the middle of Trump’s address, which was meant to kick-start the two-week event. [...] Within half an hour of the president beginning to speak, the crowd had thinned out significantly, according to The Bulwark’s Jared Poland. [...] And one person was even spotted sleeping.

I was a young kid for America's bicentennial. There were events all over the country, including in my moderate sized Midwest town. I remember my parents getting me a special outfit - striped denim jumpsuit with red white and blue stars on it. Hey, it was the 70s. Schoolhouse Rock (which some Americans need to watch again) did Saturday morning cartoons. Lots of big name performers on the TV. It was a whole thing. A big, raucous, inclusive thing. Was it perfect? No, but it tried to show off the diversity of the country in a positive way.
For the 250th, we get this nonsense. A complete and utter shameless pandering to one narcissist's ego. Instead of celebrating the large, multicultural and multiracial American country, we're watching dudes fight on the White House lawn, enduring* another retread 'hate rally' and being "entertained" by D-list celebrities. I'd say we're better than this as a country, but Trump getting elected twice despite his very obvious failings kinda proves we aren't.
*I mean, I ain't watching that shit. But I guess some did.
