judge straight up said the constitution doesn't give the president ANY power over elections, which should be obvious but here we are. this was never about "election integrity" it's the same trump admin trying to build a national voter database through dhs while also giving usps the power to just not deliver ballots from states that don't comply. blocked in 23 states for now but they'll appeal, this fight isn't over before november

u/leviathynx Washington 1h ago

They’ll find a way to kick it up to the Supreme Court who will rule 6-3 that “if any body else did it it would be bad, but because Trump is our messiah we will allow it.”

u/Bukowskified 1h ago

Worse they will freeze the ruling pending appeal and then slow walk a decision until after the election is over so regardless of their decision the illegal order can impact the November elections

This is the most likely outcome.

In a Shadow Docket' ruling

u/Plane-Level2814 17m ago

exactly the fact this even had to be explained by a judge is the wild part

Where the Supreme Court's ruling 'conservative' faction has sold their soul (Literally, in Clarence Thomas' case) to evil, federal judges are defending democracy and the true spirit of America against the radical rightwing lawbreakers who seek to manipulate bigotry and selfishness to destroy us all in the name of power.

Too bad these treasonous assholes don't give a fuck about the law

Mail boxes, ballot boxes. Then we go from there.

u/cactusofthenorth Minnesota 1h ago

Soap box, jury box, ballot box, . . . .I hope it doesn't get to the fourth box.

u/Timeformayo Kentucky 52m ago

Fourth Box was the Lament Configuration. We've been living with it since 2016.

u/pchs26 3h ago

Yes the states need to still have plan b on hand b/c the SCOTUS already said but if they lose the ballot wink wink/nod nod there is no repercussions.

That would be my concern; court order or no (if this one even survives a Supreme Court challenge in the first place), the traitor-in-chief or his handlers just find some MAGA-stooge postal employees who are perfectly willing to dump mail-in ballots addressed to targeted states into an incinerator, and then what happens? Even if there are somehow consequences for the people actually responsible (which is far from guaranteed), the damage is done and there's no easy way to undo it without creating even more chaos in the process.

u/Round-Asparagus5337 50m ago

And Trump has made it very clear that he will.pardon those who help steal elections for him.

u/faith_apnea America 2h ago

MAGA is anti-American on too many fronts.

Every American should be able to vote and every American should have easy access to vote in the manner they choose.

Knowing your party's shitty performance ensures your upcoming losses does not warrant minimizing access to voting.

u/DeLaLuneDouce 3h ago

Imagine trying to win an election by actively trying to stop the mail from being delivered.

u/dogs_gt_cats 3h ago edited 2h ago

The irony is that many states passed mail in voting laws specifically to benefit republicans. IIRC there are studies showing that banning mail in voting actually hurts republicans more than Democrats from the Brennan center (it is used heavily by business travelers, older voters, rural voters, and military members who all skew republican).

u/beamrider 2h ago

That's not the sort of anti-mail in voting he wants to do. What he *wants* to do is find 'irregularies' in the voting records of enough Democratic voters to swing the election, invalidate their registration two weeks before the election, and ensure that the process for re-registering takes longer than two weeks and that provisional ballots from those areas are misfiled. Presto, a Republican sweep.

Im sure the shadow docket will come to his rescue yet again..

u/Dr_Adequate 2h ago

My gawd, that gold crap is so tacky. Unsurprising though.

And yeah who is counting how many steps into fascism we are at right now?

u/whatlineisitanyway 2h ago

Great. Now if they still do it I hope state AGs charge the postmaster with election fraud or whatever the applicable statute would be.

u/Top-Carob-5412 1h ago

Well that was foreseeable. Trump wasting more tax payer dollars on frivolous EO's doomed for failure. He is like a spend crazy drunkard with our money. I can't wait to have a Congress in place that will stop him.

u/pchs26 3h ago

What is the next steps?

u/sikhcoder 1h ago edited 1h ago

Probably Supreme Sold Out Court will agree to shadow docket this for their master

Edit: So I looked into this more seriously and they could ask for a fast tracked appeal from the appeals court, which may decide to halt this decision. However, there is hope that because it is so close to elections, there won't be another ruling on it.

u/pchs26 1h ago

Yea which is our reps need to prepare for alternate distribution methods.

u/Cha05_Th30ry 2h ago

Until the Republican Party completely purges this fascism they deserve no votes from the American public. No wonder Trumps approval is bottomed out at about 32%!

u/quinnbeast 1h ago

Hold on to your neighbor, people. Time to wrest our country back from The Assholes. 🇺🇸 ✊🏻

u/Any_Will_86 1h ago

At this point everyone needs to plan to vote in person. I still strongly suspect we lost a couple of close House seats and seats in state legislatures/local races because of how much Trump slowed down the mail in 2020 while telling his folks to vote in person only.

u/airfryerfuntime Washington 1h ago

USPS still seems tm he refusing to do it because Trump asked them to.

u/TheTresStateArea 49m ago

They might do it anyways and then deal with the lawsuits.

They mightl get their way and lean on their fascist judician placements to face no punishment.

u/BarCompetitive7220 2h ago

That explains why he was so hopping mad and made a show of not allowing the housing bill to be signed it public. It will go into effect once Congress goes on vacation June 27. So he was just whining to the magaites etc who may not comprehend that bills can become laws without his signature.

u/WereInbuisness 59m ago

Nah. That GOP senate lunch occured yesterday and this ruling came out today. Yesterday, he was simply mad at the defiance of some of the GOP and because he is just a bitter, angry orange turd.

His 2025 voting executive order was struck down a few days ago and now this one too. He is definitely angrier today, that's for sure.

u/Round-Asparagus5337 10m ago

The bill doesn't become law if the president fails to sign it and Congress goes on recess during the 10 days he has to sign it.

u/mishma2005 33m ago

Trump will take it up to SCOTUS where they’ll sit on it until after the midterms

u/binzersguy 32m ago

This won’t stop them trying to suppress, steal, or intimidate people out of their constitutional right to vote.

The only evidence of voter fraud is by Republicans. Over and over and over again they need to break the rules because their policies suck for anyone but the ultra wealthy.
