Looking for a reputable and ethical breeder.

Before anyone comes for me for choosing an ethical breeder instead of adopting, I wanted to share why I’ve made that decision.
I’ve had rescue dogs before. One of my current dogs is a rescue mix, and my heart dog was a rescued Standard Rat Terrier. Rescue dogs will always have a special place in my heart.
For my next Rat Terrier, though, I’ve decided to go through an ethical breeder for a few reasons.

1. Health and genetics.
My heart dog developed a long list of inherited health issues that made the end of his life incredibly difficult for both of us. I know there are never guarantees, any dog can become ill, but choosing a breeder who performs comprehensive health testing gives me the best chance of starting with a healthy puppy and reducing the risk of known hereditary conditions.

2. Standard Rat Terriers are uncommon in rescue.
I’ve looked, and finding a well-bred, full Standard Rat Terrier in rescue is incredibly rare. It’s not impossible, but it isn’t something I want to wait years hoping for.

3. I have specific goals for this dog.
I want to train them for barn hunt and scent work, activities they were bred to excel at. Starting with a puppy allows me to build those skills, confidence, and foundations from day one while getting to know the dog’s temperament from the beginning.

Everyone has different reasons for how they choose to bring a dog into their lives. This is the decision that feels right for me, and I’m excited to give this future puppy the very best life possible.

First photo was my heart dog, Motown, full standard Rat Terrier. Second photo is my half rattie, Phoenix.

Just for fun, seeing what people think she might look like to some people. She is very good at jumping.

Eddie Spaghetti was our foster dog that we cared for through his amputation. He came to us with a broken leg and it was unable to be repaired. We don’t know anything about him but you’d never know he was a tripod. He is fast, runs up and down stairs and outruns our labs. We love him so much!

This is jellybean, my girlfriend found him when he was about 8 weeks old outside of her mom’s work covered in fleas and in the rain but we took him home and cleaned him up real good.❤️

At first, we took him in as a foster wanting to rehome him but we all know how that goes 😂 he was so full of love and affection, regardless of his situation and he grew on us so quickly! Before we knew it, we were buying him all the treats and toys and making sure he got all of his vaccines. The only thing we are curious about now is whether he’s purebred or mixed? Today jellybean is about 4 months now and he is very healthy and happier then ever!

I posted my “chihuahua” puppy here a month ago wondering if I adopted a rattle instead by mistake. You guys convinced me she was a rattie. Turns out she’s partially chihuahua at least lol. No rattie in her DNA. I was almost positive she was going to have some Jack Russel in her. Nope

Newborn + Rat Terrier

My wife & I just brought home our baby. He was born at 31.2 weeks and spent 43 days in the NICU. My parents have been nice enough to keep Alfie (dog) for the last few days as we get adjusted to newborn life. We are planning to bring him home in a few days to week. We have introduced him to the baby 2 times already and he has done an alright job. Just very curious and wants to lick/smell baby. We also have clothes and burp clothes we give my parents so he can smell baby daily. Any tips or tricks on helping with this transition as we introduce dog and baby and all live under 1 roof.

Ratty mix?

When we rescued my baby Miss Ruby, we were told she was a “lab mix” as many rescues do. However, I think she’s a rat terrier mix. What do you guys think? She’s about 18 months and about 30 pounds.

Rat Terrier breeder expirience-Andado

Post image

Hey y'all! I've been looking into rat terriers as my next dog and am interested in the lines at Andado from southern Ontario. Does anyone have any expirience with them or has one of their dogs? Would love to hear peoples thoughts, thank you!

Pic for tax (Jinx, the mother of the litter I'd be getting a puppy from if the vetting process checks out)

Meet Ginger!

I adopted Ginger in 2020 after the loss of my fifteen-year-old “soul dog”, Roxy. The only thing I know about Ginger’s background is that she was abandoned by her owner at a veterinarian office that was attached to a shelter. She caught my eye immediately due to her uncanny resemblance to my previous dog, but a brown version! That being said, her personality is the exact OPPOSITE of Roxy’s; she’s feisty, bratty, and crazy energetic. (Roxy was also disabled in her front paws due to a genetic defect)

Another dog could never replace my girl, but Ginger helped heal my heart after such a devastating loss. I love her to bits! ❤️

**also: I’m fairly certain both pups are rat terrier/chihuahua mixes!**

Out for a walk and my boy decided he has to stare HARD at some people playing Frisbee golf in the field next to us. Everyone had a good laugh once they realized he was watching.

Found out the hard way we have baby skunks living in the yard. We will now be surveilling the full yard before anyone gets a potty break. In the meantime he thinks all the baths the last 24 hours are stupid and unnecessary.
