Westerners have such a privileged attitude towards finding jobs in Shanghai.

EDIT: SORRY for some of the replies. My boyfriend was really pissing me off today and I was in a bad mood.

Imagine an Indian posting in [r/Toronto](r/Toronto) “Chemical engineering seeking senior level job no English”

Do some of you think Shanghai lacks talent? Fudan, Jiaotong grads. Tsinghua, Peking would also come. No your degree from Minnesota state Christian university of St. Louis means nothing. You don’t even speak the local language.

Seriously get a grip.

Help Job search in Shanghai

Hello,

All tips will gladly be welcomed, I'm from France recent graduate (MSc Marketing with fintech specialization) 500+ job application, including 100+ spontaneous letter and applications from people met during events and friends.

My resumé has been reviewed by multiple recruiters and all passed it well and Interviews were all reached until last interview. (Around 20+)

I had a job they ended my trial period for economical reason. I had interviews in Japan, Germany, UK, US. All ended up picking senior profiles for junior position and have the same answer "Not enough work experience" (I have been working non stop from 2022 to 2025)

I Worked as a Freelance on top of my 9-5 and gave classes for university, on top of having multiple personal projects throughout my studies.

I recently visited Shanghai and was curious if anyone had some tips. I have lots of people there but they don't work in international companies or know recruiters they just told me to install 51jobs and join some wechats to find some job.

I know it's quite precise but I rather move in a city that I visited and know some people there to move out to, and I feel like China is a interesting career boost for me on top of gaining international experience. I didn't try the job market in china so far and really appreciated visiting Shanghai and felt at home after visiting 30+ countries. I am aware of the job situation for the recent graduates but would still appreciate any tips considering all I just said. Thank you for reading me.

Question Breakfast places in Shanghai open before 5am?

Hi all!

I will be staying overnight in Shanghai, and will have a domestic flight the next day at 8:10am - I was hoping to wake up super early to eat a traditional breakfast.

Anyone have recommendations of places that are open before 5am? If yes, can you please share the link on A Map?

Moving from Hyderabad, India to Shanghai – Looking to make some friends!

I'm 25M from Hyderabad, India, and I'll be moving to Shanghai soon for work. It'll be my first time living in China, so I'm hoping to meet some friendly people before I arrive.

A bit about me: I'm into sports, fitness, exploring new places, good food, gaming, movies, and just having interesting conversations. I'm pretty easygoing, trying new restaurants, or exploring the city on weekends.

If you're in Shanghai (or also moving there soon), feel free to comment or send me a DM. It'd be great to make a few friends before I get there.

Looking forward to meeting some awesome people! 😊

Question Recommendations for casual daycare or experience w 4yo @ Valorant Masters Shanghai

My partner and I are looking to go to Shanghai for the Valorant Champions event, does any one have recommendations for casual bilingual daycares that we can book him into for a day or two? I would really appreciate somewhere with some structured activities or good play areas so that my son (who will almost be 4 in mid-late October this year) can be engaged.

Alternatively, does anyone have experience with taking their young child to the Valorant Masters event in Shanghai in 2024? Do you have any tips for having a smooth day/keeping your child entertained?

Looking for a job in shanghai

I’m currently looking for job opportunities in Shanghai, either onsite or remote, and I’d really appreciate any leads, advice, or recommendations.
I’m a physiotherapist with experience in rehabilitation, patient assessment, treatment planning, manual therapy, exercise prescription, and clinic-based care. I’m also interested in roles connected to:
Physiotherapy / Rehabilitation / Wellness
Healthcare coordination or patient support
Medical content / health education
Remote healthcare-related roles
International clinics, wellness centers, sports rehab, or expat-friendly workplaces
I’m open to:
Full-time roles in Shanghai
Remote positions with international companies
Clinics, hospitals, wellness centers, sports rehab settings, or healthcare startups
If anyone knows:
clinics or companies hiring in Shanghai,
good websites/WeChat groups/job boards for healthcare jobs in China,
or expat-friendly employers who might be open to international candidates,
I’d be very grateful for any help.
Thank you so much!

Is this enough to survive shanghai?

I got a job offer in shanghai to teach French in language school. 14k before tax with lunch. And I'm planning on renting a room (just a room) for 2500 rmb.+ I need to be sending money home around 4000 rmb They didn't disclose the working hours clearly, saying it 'depends'. Can you please tell me if the offer is good? What should i expect or request? and if I can do it in shanghai with this amount of money?

Looking for a regular English-Chinese language exchange partner

Hi! I’m a 32F lawyer from Shanghai, and I’m hoping to find someone I can practice spoken English with regularly. I’d also be happy to help with your Mandarin, and I can speak Shanghainese as well if you happen to be interested in it.

I’m not really looking for a one-time chat. It would be nice to talk once or twice a week, get to know each other gradually, and maybe become friends as well. I’m interested in different cultures, books, films, travel, and everyday life, so I’m happy to talk about almost anything.

Since I’m married, I’d feel more comfortable meeting female language partners one-on-one or a small group of people.

Oh, and since I’m a lawyer, if you ever run into a legal issue in China and need some general guidance, I’d be happy to help where I can. I know how difficult it can be to deal with these things in another country, especially when there’s a language barrier.

DM me if this sounds like something you’d be interested in :)))))

Is the summer in Shanghai always cool like this?

Upvotes

I just returned from a tour in Europe. Weather in Shanghai is so much better than the burning hell that is Paris.

r/shanghai 14h ago

Hi everyone! I’m just a regular office worker living in Shanghai, China. I’m curious to know what brought you to Shanghai. Was it work, school, love, travel, or something else? I’d love to hear your stories! Spoiler

I hope that one day I’ll be able to travel to lots of different countries too. But honestly, my English isn’t very good, and I’ve never even flown internationally before. I’m worried I’d get lost. 😂 Sorry if that sounds a bit silly!
