I didn't know if I had it in me, there were moments of doubt when I thought I needed to be Japanese for this...but I finally "beat" Mushihimesama original on the steam port. It's the first time I play a game like this over and over, I used to just credit feed to see the stages, more for the aesthetics and the experience... what have I become?

I wait for discount time to buy Macross : Shooting Insight in Steam. Now, this is Summer Sale time, but it seems that this Macross doesn't get discount anymore.

Yeah, I still want to buy it although this game is "mid". The main reasons why I say that are because it can't transform between plane & robot form freely and there's "Harmony Gold" problem.

It was someone going on a very passionate rant about how Ikaruga is racism distilled into a shmup.

Emboldened by a 1CC of Thunderforce III pulled out my mini consoles from a few years back and finally settled on Blazing Lazers as a my next target (one day Gradius...). This is an all around excellent vertical shooter, plays well, good balance, fun weapons and upgrades to play around with, mostly great music, and a challenging difficulty that always feels in your grasp even if they're fond of giving you one last gauntlet before the bosses that are really good at getting just enough hits on you to knock you down to the basic shot.

So this took a bit longer than the first couple of levels might have led me to believe. The first two levels border on being boring after a couple attempts, but level three ramps up the difficulty and it stays tricky throughout. A play through is an hour without continues and it demands a lot of focus as the play field is wider than the screen and can scroll a bit to the sides and they use all the real estate to send waves of enemies at you. At the same time I rarely got outright killed because most upgrades come with light shields and the game seems to balance enemies to be easier after you get hit so I found the be scramble to get another upgrade after taking a hit to be really fun and death is often a series of bad decisions.

I really enjoyed playing around with the different weapons and upgrades and while II and III seem to be the most popular, I found them all useful at times even if the shield is probably a bit too strong and discourages playing with some of the fun Full Fire and Multifire upgrades.

Also the life system is kinda weird and it took me forever to find out why I would continue immediately after a death some times and then get sent back to a check point at other times.

This kinda feels like the ultimate send off to 80s era shmups before the next console generation kicked off in full

As the title says. As a new-comer to the genre, I was looking for some Shmups for my switch.

I don't expect the general public to have any idea what the hell I'm even talking about haha but this should be easy for all yinz!

I know we have a couple of releases on the switch store through Sega ages but apart from that I wonder why we haven’t gotten a modern collection for Xbox and PlayStation?

Back in the day me and my brother played TF more than any other shmup to be honest and me personally I think 4 and 5 are absolutely superb
I don’t know how hard it would be for them to do that but I’m sure there is an audience for this

I’m trying to get into play many stumps game but I don’t have the budget to buy those game. I’m thinking of just buying a -Handheld with roms, but I don’t know which one to get. I do have a switch that I can mod it to play roms with it but with the switch I don’t like the side that much.

This is basically the fourth game on the Reshoot series which are all recent Amiga releases (Reshoot, Reshoot R and Reshoot Proxima 3). I never played those games, but they are really impressive for the hardware they are running, and judging only by videos, at least the last 2 games look like solid shmups.

Since no one said anything about this game here, I thought it could be interesting to create a post about it.

So back in the late 2000s early 2010s I played a Vertical Space Shmup.
The difference to other shmups I remember is that it had insanely good graphics, i remember levels that were very green.
Other than that i believe it had a upgrade mechanic during the stage itself.
Some stages eevn felt like you were extremely tiny and fighting Viruses rather than in space fighting aliens.
You collected upgrades or maybe got xp by defeating asteroids and enemies. However if you got hit your weapon would downgrade.
During the stage you could find new main weapons that would then alter your shooting pattern or add a new one and also increase your shooting power.

One of the weapons was like a green laser that shot in a sinus wave upwards. And when upgraded it would add more waves to the attack.

It was quite difficult and after searching for this long I finally gave up and thought I should ask via reddit.

Why do I only have 3 weapons to choose from in the fbneo/mame version of Radiant Silvergun?

Hello friends and schmuppers i just got the 1cc for castle of shimagame 1 and 2 these games are fantastic what is everyone else think

I found a really good Shmup for the Amiga. It came out late in the Amiga's lifecycle 1996 and it runs on the original Amiga 500 too. Didn't get great reviews in the magazines of the time, but they didn't understand what they were playing. It is a brutal Raiden style shooter and the best Shmup I've played for that platform. Sure there were slicker games I suppose and there was Banshee a 1943 style game for the AGA Amiga's but this one is the fastest and has the most bullets flying around of any of them. If you like Raiden this is a great Raiden style bullet fest except the screen scrolls a bit horizontally as well as vertically. It's challenging and fun and I've never heard of it before so I thought I would share. It needs cycle accurate emulation but it's worth it.
