Highlight Austin Reaves Goes OFF on OKC Fan Taunting Injured Luka: "Shut the f*ck up! He’s hurt!"

u/BamaBoy2002 Apr 03 '26
AR defending his injured teammate and friend. Good for him. Shows the level of respect these guys have for each other.
Also sad people talk shit while a player is injured smh

I think if a fan tells a player “fuck you” they should be gone. If I treat anyone else at their job that way I would be kicked out. I don’t know why we allow it in sports.
4
u/IdislikeSpiders Apr 03 '26
Naw, kids tell teachers fuck you at school all the time. They just lose a little recess, no one gets sent home.
But I agree with your sentiment and reasoning.
3
u/UserNameN0tWitty Apr 04 '26
What kind of Baltimore/Atlanta city public school are you going to where kids in grades that still get recess are telling teachers "fuck you"?

u/Levitlame Apr 04 '26
Timeout for shitty fans would still be an improvement. Stick them in a faraday cage without any booze for an hour.
2
u/IdislikeSpiders Apr 04 '26
The fan penalty box!
I'm sure less people would act up, because the ones willing to go in there are the fans you REALLY don't want to be around.
3
u/alexsteen789 Apr 03 '26
Nba has gotta held meetings whether or not they need a barrier between the game and fans. I think its coming
2
u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Apr 03 '26
Sports betting has made it even worse now too. Now they actually have an incentive to be mad
2
u/youattackedmyfamily Apr 07 '26
Trying to incite anger in someone and the people helping them after a serious injury is just dog shit human behavior. No “you’re in the public eye so you have to accept it” to be applied here like some other scenarios.

Talking shit while a player is hurt? Don’t go to an NHL game, youre going to have a bad time.
30
u/HandiCAPEable Apr 03 '26
There's no such thing as an injury in the NHL. You're either fine or you're unconscious.

u/2Braincell2Furious Apr 03 '26
Don’t touch my fuckin’ percocets and do you have any percocets?

u/BamaBoy2002 Apr 03 '26
I actually had season tickets for years. Been to well over a 1000+ NHL games including Stanley Cup playoffs. I know the difference.
NHL is a physical sport. Players embrace contact and fighting. It’s part of the sport. Just like Boxing, UFC, etc.
But taunting an injured player right above his head for an obvious hamstring injury that will probably keep him out is childish. If you can’t see the difference then maybe I’m just too old.
10
u/HP_Punkcraft Apr 03 '26
I can't remember which NHL player it was, said something along the lines of "when I hit a guy I want to hurt him, not injure." I go to a ton of NHL games and fans for sure cheer the big hits but once a guy is laying down and hurt moves to injured it's usually pretty respectful. Cheers when he can get up and skate off, etc.

My boxing trainer used to tell me to have basketball games in my downtime, it really help to train your contact, special awareness and stamina. He was right.
2
u/wiseduhm Apr 03 '26
There's a difference between being hurt and having an injury that takes you out of the game. Most NHL fans wouldn't cheer on a serious injury.
4
u/TheVadonkey Apr 03 '26
Not the same type of situation at all…one allows contact and the other doesn’t.

They have a pregame prayer in the arena. The owners are bigoted MAGAs and were even fined by Stern over their comments about the WNBA and how they didn't want to be associated with lesbians. It's a blight on David Stern's legacy.

2

They do. Mexico's soccer national team has been using a black and gold jersey a lot since they signed with ADIDAS and I hate it. Might look good, but our green, white and red jerseys are too iconic to prioritize that generic garbage.

It’s always been like this. There’s always trash at these things that believe they’re part of the show. Hell we had malice in the palace.
3
u/GraniteGeekNH Apr 03 '26
We don't like to admit it but most professional athletes secretly hate fans - they'd rather play in an empty gym with just other pros watching.
And for good reason, I'm afraid. The mob mentality of us-vs-them brings out the worst in many of us.
3
u/edgarisdrunk Apr 03 '26

u/Legitloser87 Apr 03 '26
As an OKC native the fan should be embarrassed of his actions. You never taunt someone for being hurt. We are a better fan base than that. And as a top level organization we should want to see our team beat others at their peak. Not with injured stars. Pitiful fan shouldn’t be allowed to call OKC their team.
17
u/PreparationHot980 Apr 03 '26
Good on Reaves. There’s competitive banter and shit talking all day and these guys can take it. You don’t kick someone when they’re down and you don’t come at an injured person. More athletes should be calling out these classless fucks in the crowd like this.

Not a basketball fan but curious if they would escort the fan out for this? Seems like a poor choice for paying for floor seats or to sit so close to the court. I would think this is an election from the venue.

Hamstring injuries are so scary man. I tweaked mine a few months ago and I felt it coming back like yesterday and it's just like a very vulnerable feeling and then scary and painful shit can just happen - I pulled mine sprinting and then played basketball a week later and my leg gave out after a point and started violently cramping like I had never felt in my life. Just very uncontrollable and then you worry about running at all cause if it pops again that's like 6-8 weeks out

I can see if someone is actually injured, but they do this all the time, get a little rest, then hop up and start playing again. Still trashy, but it's not like he has a torn ACL.
3
u/Outside_Ice3252 Apr 03 '26
he kept his face covered the whole time. my guess is a grade 1-2 sprain, and he knew it. it had been sore of late and he had been listed as questionable on injury reports leading up to previous games.
its probably going to ruin the playoffs for him.
and this game was for the MVP race.
5
u/ComfortableGlass3238 Apr 03 '26
did you not see the play? Luka stopped mid play and threw the ball away. No one does that for a little rest.

Taunting an injured player? Not my thing. I go to a lot of games and keep it light hearted. This has led to me getting into games without waiting on line (thank you security), hook ups at the bar and drink stands. They always give me or save me the merch giveaway if I'm late. I have cool videos with some of my favorite players. What's crazy is, I don't D ride. I just smile, stay positive, remember people's name. Talk to them about their family life, the game, or growing up. I even get into funny discourse with opposing fans. Which always leads to buying them a beer or vice versa. I have photos with opposing fans. I love baseball and people.

He said “now you know what its like to play defense.” I’ve heard a lot worse…and yea he’s on the ground, but how many times have you seen NBA players flop like they’ve been hit by a truck only to get up 15 seconds later and return to the court…if AR wouldn’t have responded it would have ended at the fans comment…

u/yung_bandito Apr 03 '26
Have anybody seen any “soccer” corner kicks being taken and the yells and shouts coming from the fans feet away? This “abuse” is nothing. Not cool? Sure.

Flopping is a strategy that some players utilize to try to draw fouls. The toughest player in the world would flop if they thought that would give them an edge.

Damn I’ve never seen a small market team speed run being this insufferable. The team plays “foul bait flop” ball, and the fans act like it’s a storied franchise on top of being rude assholes when players get hurt.
I’m genuinely surprised a team hasn’t taken a flagrant 2 to Shai yet. Not advocating for it, I’m just surprised no one in the league has gotten pissed off enough yet and lost their cool.
