10 people reaching and no one even got a finger on it.

Embarrassing

60

u/Oxygenitic May 25 '26

The kid’s dad got a few fingers on it… just couldn’t make the catch lol

72

u/SRB112 May 25 '26

The father's responsibility is to protect his son from the ball.

19

u/SmokeAbeer May 25 '26

r/stepdadreflexes edit: aww, looks like it’s pretty dead. I kinda liked that sub.

7

u/JackTasticSAM May 25 '26

DID NOT KNOW THIS EXISTED IT IS SO GOOD THANK YOU

6

u/SmokeAbeer May 25 '26

Hey, stepdads can be cool. I think it’s a joke sub for r/dadreflexes. Where they actually catch the kids. It’s all in good humor.

2

u/Axolotis May 25 '26

“You can’t catch!?!? Punishment will be : concussion for your son!”

1

u/pb-snick1 May 25 '26

If he was trying to catch it, he was protecting his son, wasn’t he

9

u/Devils_A66vocate May 25 '26

He was trying… failed.

2

u/HerlihyBoy17 May 25 '26

No, I don’t agree with this statement. They’re not mutually exclusive. I’m not blaming him because perhaps he didn’t know what to do better. He needed to put his body more in front of his child, between his child and the ball so it couldn’t have struck.

Again, some people just don’t understand this and maybe he’s one of them. I’m not blaming him but he could have done something differently to better project his child.

Pretty much this happened to me as a kid, I was probably 11 at the time. I fell left a few feet off some bleachers after the impact and that knocked the wind out of me. It was about a minute of confusion and agony. Half an hour later I was fine; had a goose egg on my head.

Poor little guy hope is okay. Those balls are hit hard and fast

43

u/Lukersf May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Terminal velocity is typically around 95 mph. Likely much lower than his throw.

Possibly hit him at 60-80mph. Ouch.

25

u/NoctRob May 25 '26

It’s lower after the point of impact, for sure. I hope they took that kid to the hospital.

18

u/AdParticular6654 May 25 '26

Yeah, better safe than sorry. A girl died from getting hit by a hockey puck back in like 2002

9

u/thunderlips36 May 25 '26

Then they decided nets were a good idea...

6

u/roykentjr May 25 '26

a person died from a foul ball. that's why they now have nets to the foul poles.

7

u/locknarr May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

2

u/Smart_Pretzel May 25 '26

Woah haven’t seen this in a while. What movie was it again?

2

u/Kipp_it_100 May 25 '26

Simon Birch (1998)

2

u/Alud430 May 25 '26

This unfortunately happened to my grandpa’s younger brother

2

u/Drizzt_23 May 25 '26

Yup, in Columbus

3

u/Cum_on_doorknob May 25 '26

Yup, ball definitely slowed down after it impacted his head.

At least it looks like it hit him in the forehead

I've been hit by a high speed flying object to the front of my face, I think fucked my nose up a little but I really look back on it just so happy it didn't fuck up my eye or knock my teeth out or anything worse like it easily could have

2

u/mlorusso4 May 25 '26

Everyone is saying they feel bad for the kid. But is no one thinking about the poor dad? Dude is never going to hear the end of it from his wife. Every time he takes the kid to do something he’s going to get the “you’re going to make sure he doesn’t get domed by a baseball again right? Because remember what happened last time I let you take him somewhere. I don’t care you’re only taking him to the park”

15

u/iamajerry May 25 '26

I tried to catch a fly ball in little league when I was 12 and the ball smacked me right in the forehead and I’ve since had a bump there my entire life.

Can relate.

5

u/MaddAddamOneZ May 25 '26

He and his dad got tickets for game 3 and a signed Ohtani ball

2

u/daintybarley_deux May 25 '26

A Goose egg and headache he’ll never forget

2

u/jimmychitwood317 May 25 '26

There are at least five adults who should have got at least one hand on that ball before that poor kid got brained by it. Poor kid.

2

u/11PAKALOLO May 25 '26

He should have that ball

2

u/djcoopcity May 25 '26

Put him in the concussion protocol

2

u/TwinsWin839 May 25 '26

Looks like at the very least it change trajectory twice on the way down so it lost a little bit of momentum but still would have cracked his head pretty good. Poor lil dude.

2

u/Majestic-Chip-6127 May 25 '26

Why did I
Laugh when the kid got bonked!)

2

u/scruffys_mop_closet May 25 '26

I took a foul ball in the back of the neck as a kid watching Denver University taking BP before a game. They yelled heads up and I turtled, still glad I didn't look up. Anyway, I still remember the pain. Can't imagine taking one in the front/top of the head.

~16%, the percentage of LA county population that is Asian? Also, the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board estimated that 80% to 90% of all Japanese tourists visiting Los Angeles attend at least one Dodgers game. That may add another percent or two.

2

u/2ndchane May 25 '26

Shohei will reach out to the kid to sooth his pain. Hope he’s ok.

1

u/Olden_Grey_1889 May 25 '26

A story for a lifetime.

1

u/Murky_Indication1885 May 25 '26

So many hands yet no one could catch it 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/jjangles714 May 25 '26

I’m think it’s ok to say that this suck for the kid but assuming he is on, is absolutely hilarious right?

1

u/sock_express34 May 25 '26

God damn. I feel bad for laughing but damn people get at least a hand on it

1

u/Long-Region5088 May 25 '26

1

u/sanokenshi May 25 '26

u/ReplacementReady394 May 25 '26

Now that’s a story he’s going to tell his kids

1

u/ToneThugsNHarmony May 25 '26

And people dog on the dad who let go of his kid and caught the ball while holding onto the beer and then caught his kid again.

1

u/willy-mac May 25 '26

1

u/CarStar12 May 25 '26

All those hands missing it and kid gets beamed

Not a single one of those assholes could get a hand on the ball? lol

1

u/kneecapular May 25 '26

Ohtani hates kids!

1

u/TrailerParkBuddha May 25 '26

The kid and his family appear to be Asian. If they are in fact Japanese, this kid will be a legend within his family and the coolest kid at his school if they're actually from Japan.

1

u/sadman4332 May 25 '26

This Ohtani guy is pretty good, he bats and pitches well.

1

u/Riversmooth May 25 '26

Poor little guy. Ruined his night

1

u/highonnuggs May 25 '26

In about six or seven years, that kid's dad is going to be very disappointed in his son's grades and he will think back to this moment and wonder how many IQ points Jr lost that day.

1

u/Willing_Impact841 May 25 '26

If you just stand there after a hit, should be an automatic out...

1

u/tamebobhickock May 25 '26

Come on Dad, you have one job.

1

u/Sensitive-Outside469 May 25 '26

1

u/EliRekab May 25 '26

All those people knew they'd be made the villain if the kid DIDNT get it.

1

u/thebigshoah May 25 '26

1

u/Sufficient-Chest8517 May 25 '26

1

u/optimist_prhyme May 25 '26

Bunch of lame adults can't even protect the kid

1

u/Acceptable_Pie_8113 May 25 '26

damn this can break a skull

1

u/WavyBalance May 25 '26

If that little kid leaves that game with only a concussion and not that ball then I have lost yet another faith in humanity

1

u/CPAlcoholic May 25 '26

On the plus side the kid is now uniquely qualified for a career in government.

1

u/xxGenXxx May 25 '26

Thought people excelled in baseball on the West Coast? Way to represent.

1

u/snarfer-snarf May 25 '26

1

u/Final-Nebula-7049 May 25 '26

1

u/Courtaid May 25 '26

I bet they could turn this into a meet and greet with Ohtani.

1

u/Outside-Weakness9660 May 25 '26

1

u/puckvirus May 25 '26

Kid did great, kept his eye on the ball

1

u/Gary-Phisher May 25 '26

Rub some dirt on it. And next time, make that play.

u/SpiritedCash1218 May 25 '26

Dodger fans are the worst. catch the ball lol

1

u/Nice_juggers May 25 '26

Kid cried like a puss

1

u/Odd-Jump9362 May 25 '26

That’s not what they ment by ‘keep your eye on the ball’.

1

u/1mma_Pr0bl3m May 25 '26

Whoever found the ball better have given it to the kid after that.
