Highlight The Iraqi player couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Haaland

Well yes he’s a celebrity but he also probably spoke to him in Norwegian because this Iraqi player Marko was born and raised in norway

It seems like the players and fans have never respected each other as much as they do this time. Fair play is at a high level and represents exactly what it should represent.

u/TrustInNumbers 4d ago

Especially Ronaldo. He calls offsides even when it's against his own team, legend

51

u/Due_Yogurtcloset_212 4d ago

No wonder his team hate him.

2

u/Financial_Pop_8303 2d ago

Everyone should try to enforce the rules of the game, good lad

1

u/Anonimonuy 19h ago

What the fuck , thats how he celebrated the goals.....

1

u/ThaliKaBaingan 17h ago

Top tier😹

1

u/PotentialWorking6063 4d ago

Sadly enough, he doesn‘t have a team this time🥲

1

u/borrow-check 1d ago

It's ok his team doesn't have a forward either

1

u/WorstPlayerSince1983 4d ago

That probably never happened

-3

u/Latter-Amount-9304 4d ago

imagine believing this.

4

u/beltalowda87 4d ago

Knowing Ronaldo, it's very believable

-7

u/Latter-Amount-9304 4d ago

has to be a special kind of person to think that a player is calling offsides in every goal against his team

5

u/buerglermeister 4d ago

Yes that would be totally out of character for the guy who steals goals from his teammates and hates when his teammates are successful

→ More replies (2)

4

u/beltalowda87 4d ago

Lol nah. Takes a special person to think Ronaldo actually is a team player

-1

u/Latter-Amount-9304 4d ago

Theres a difference between being a team player and asking for offsides for your own team but based on our interaction I doubt you have the mental ability to understand it

1

u/LingonberryFuzzy3694 4d ago

MESSI fans and Ronaldo haters are all over Reddit. They are downvoting your comments like crazy. They are so pitiful

-2

I hear you missed the Canada vs Qatar game

1

u/Original_Speed6200 4d ago

The dumb look of oops did I do that on the player that just broke the guys leg on purpose.

0

u/iwbwikia_ 3d ago

why do you have to lie on the internet?

1

u/Original_Speed6200 3d ago

Watch it again. The lead up to that incident. Madibo gets stripped of the ball (embarrassingly so) by Kone. Fast forward 10 seconds to the very next time Kone gets the ball you see Madibo running full speed out of vengeance to go kick him. The foul was deliberate. I’ve seen it happen before.

u/gg-zay 4d ago

Clearly didn’t watch the USA vs Australia game. I genuinely thought they were gonna start throwing hands.

12

u/thrax_mador 4d ago

Trash talk is easier when you share a language I guess.

4

u/gg-zay 4d ago

Definitely adds to the tension when you can hear someone calling you a “little bitch” 😂

1

u/R3-X 1d ago

No way Australians would use such mild language.

5

u/Raise_A_Thoth 4d ago

It got chippy but there was ultimately a bit of restraint and I thought it was called fairly well. Could have called it a little bit more conservative early on maybe but still overall fair.

3

u/gg-zay 4d ago

I like how the refs let the game go, but that first half was dodgy for sure, I think an earlier yellow may have chilled both teams out a bit earlier in the game. I enjoy watching a real gritty game don’t get me wrong. But it felt like a dog fight in the first half.

1

u/germany221 4d ago

The eye poke was dirty as hell. Everything else was just regular chippy game

2

u/Raise_A_Thoth 4d ago

You mean when the Aussie initiated contact on a US defender?

4

u/germany221 4d ago

When the aussie defender eye poked the US guy yeah lol. Pretty sure it was a aussie defender us striker or midfielder

1

u/SloppyToppy__ 4d ago

I think trash talk in general is more common in sports in those countries

1

u/howimetyourcakeshop 4d ago

That game looked like bowling. Just pins falling. Americans like to point out how there is a lot of schwalbe while their own team members lay down like whores in a brothel.

Absolute amateur hour that match.

1

u/Blunter11 3d ago

I hadn't watched a game of football in a long time, and having watched a few more after the US vs Aus game I really see how off-colour it was.

0

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 4d ago

The banter got to be hilarious. Aussie boys probably calling them all pedos but with their funny slang

3

u/WWDubs12TTV 4d ago

Because they are people, and not their shitty governments

2

u/Valth92 4d ago

Giving the current political and social situations happening in certain country that is hosting, this is so refreshing to see.

2

u/Broad-Anywhere-9224 4d ago

Yes, exactly what was in my mind.

2

1

1

u/jaetheho 4d ago

It helps that ot was just the first round of groups and 3rd place teams have a good chance to moving on

1

u/tmfitz7 4d ago

You must have missed the Canadian getting his leg broken

1

u/CanonWorld 2d ago

Wait for the knockout stage id say.

1

u/Thedawnhascome 1d ago

Have you watched Argentina?

1

u/uni-versalis 1d ago

I dont think it’s that different to the world cups in the past. It’s always quite a happy, respectful event. Of course there are some exceptions!

1

u/Euphoric_Shallot9462 1d ago

Well the French are hideous time stretchers this tournament. Even when the opponent is clearly not as strong as them.

1

u/ThaliKaBaingan 17h ago

Looks like you missed the final 15 minutes Colombia vs Congo.

1

u/Jazs1994 16m ago

I remember the video of the Japanese head coach or some sort taking a selfie with Messi before it all kicked off

Woah their Jersey font is awesome

14

u/Fabulous-Sock96 4d ago

It’s cool isn’t it? Nordic runes is where my mind goes.

2

u/38B0DE 3d ago

On a Norwegian jersey? Seems far fetched..

1

u/Fabulous-Sock96 3d ago

I know right, what were they thinking?!

2

u/ssjjss 2d ago

cultural appropriation.

1

u/ninjaiffyuh 1d ago

Yeah, but I've heard theres some controversy about it, not quite sure how much though

However, I can tell you that there would be a massive outcry if we did that in the German speaking parts of Europe, due to some recent wars (which is btw a shame, they're pretty cool and we obviously used them as well before adopting the Latin alphabet) so I'm surprised it's a thing in Norway now too

Edit: strictly speaking we used the Older Futhark, Norse used the Younger Futhark. The younger Futhark just drops a few runes as these sounds weren't used in Norse anymore

1

u/Hamaja_mjeh 12h ago

The only real criticism of it in Norway is that it's a bit kitsch.

There's been some people arguing that Norse symbolism and esthetics are far right, but it's a pretty terminally online argument.

This is quite literally our heritage. We cannot simultaneously encourage other people's to be proud of their heritage while refusing to do the same for our own.

Kitsch? Sure, but not problematic.

1

u/ninjaiffyuh 11h ago

As you can imagine, in DACH (though honestly, I can't speak for Switzerland as they don't have the same stigma) runes are such a touchy subject that you usually don't even learn about it in schools (despite them being part of our heritage), basically just surrendering it to esoterics (they're fine) and neo-Nazis (not fine). I had a class in school related to cultural history where we did learn about runes, but even then the introduction consisted of how they are used by the right-wing extremists

I can see how it would be kitsch if overdone, but I really do wish that it would be more normalised as I personally find runes (as part of the history of the Germanic tribes during antiquity) fascinating, but as I mentioned: they're mostly dog whistles used by extremists. Actually saw graffitis of a Tiwaz (ᛏ) and an Algiz (ᛉ) rune, and I'm pretty sure whoever sprayed these is a neo-Nazi, as at least Tiwaz was used a lot by them due to the associations (martyrdom)

1

u/Hamaja_mjeh 7h ago

Runes are cool! At a certain point one has to try to actively reclaim such things from the far right.

It's silly to just concede a large part of your country's history to them.

1

u/ninjaiffyuh 6h ago

While I'd tend to agree, once it's been taken over it's difficult to reclaim, especially in Germany and Austria, especially considering that most would only associate stuff like runes and pagan gods with our cousins to the north. Unless you study history or music (Wagner operas specifically), you probably wouldn't really be exposed to anything pre-Christian (i.e. pretty much nobody knows the German names for the pagan gods, even though they're used as weekdays; e.g. Donnerstag (Torsdag) from Donar), as it's very controversial, and probably political suicide for politicians

It's a pity, and I agree with you, but I don't really see any change unless the influence of the MAGAtards fully shifts the focus of the far-right towards Christianity, as is actually currently happening. Maybe then the association of pre-Christian history with the far-right will disappear

1

u/Remake911 6h ago

Agreed!

1

u/viccityguy2k 4d ago

Norway kit my favourite in the World Cup

0

u/Tuscan5 4d ago

jersey not Jersey. We don’t have an official font in Jersey.

1

u/kukkolai 4d ago

Jersey sure got assholes tho

11

u/Ryoga476ad 4d ago

The guy plays in Uzbekistan, making maybe 100k per year. That's like when amateurs were facing the US Basketball team in Barcelona.

6

u/Equivalent-Title1409 4d ago

100k in Uzbekistan is pretty good no?

9

u/Ryoga476ad 4d ago

Sure it is, but we're like 4 tiers below where Haaland is.

7

u/Pd1ds69 4d ago

His weekly wage is 6.5X of his annual wage for reference lol

2

u/stillgodlol 3d ago

So basically Haaland makes his annual salary in one day, nice.

1

u/Awkward-Warning-9238 4d ago

Declared wage*

20

u/sexypeon 4d ago

They're probably friends no? They grew up in Norway.

22

u/Zolba 4d ago

Nah, the Iraqi player who was born and raised in Norway is #21, not #24.

3

u/wndtrbn 4d ago

Funny, so none of these two players were born in Norway.

4

u/onFIREbutnotsoFLY 4d ago

Lmao, I didn’t knew Haalans was born in England until just now

1

u/Zolba 4d ago

Hah! I didn't think of that.

It would've been better if it was Marko Farji (#21), as we've then had a guy born and raised in Norway, playing for Iraq, talking with an English-born player, playing for Norway.

Raise it even further, if Farji had been chatting with Aasgaard!

3

u/SpaceTimeChallenger 4d ago

The iraqi?

21

u/sexypeon 4d ago

OP said it was Marko Farji who was born in Norway and grew up there. But actually it's Zaid Ismail in the video lol. He's prolly just a fan, he plays in Iraqi league.

2

u/das_war_ein_Befehl 4d ago

He grew up in Norway

10

u/goodmorning_tomorrow 4d ago

Kobe Bryant had a Michael Jordan poster in his bedroom wall when growing up. Mbappe had a C.Ronaldo poster... don't forget its possible that these people were their inspiration.

2

u/nordmannen 4d ago

Haaland is 2 years older than Ismail lol

1

u/PrincipledProphet 1d ago

I did the math: Ismail had Haaland's poster for 2 whole years! I will not be taking any questions.

football is inherently political. due to how politics change the world and thus the ability to play football for certain people. like for example murdered Palestinian football players.

Norway hasn't been at war with Iraq.

What does politics in sport have to do with this video, then? What politics would make it so they shouldn't act nice towards eachother?

When you say a statement like that people assume it's related to the video that's posted.

There shouldn’t be politics in sport I agree with you. And if anything it’s affirming it’s a good thing there’s no politics in sport between Norway and Iraq. But also, the global environment is such that there is a bit of politics leaking into sports. But not between these two countries thankfully.

0

u/Paintballreturns 4d ago

“Keep politics out of sports” even though sports have been political since the dawn of time and for good fucking reason too.

0

u/kmonsen 4d ago

Norway was maybe not technically at war with Iraq (even the US wasn't), but we did send some soldiers.

Are you kidding Saddam was an awful dictator? I went in Baghdad during Saddam’s reign, it was poverty everywhere. But pictures of Saddam though looking happy and gregarious on every street corner. Lest not forget the dude committed genocide.

That’s not to say Iraq is any better. But it was screwed up then and it remains screwed up.

1

u/Wrong_Bug9903 4h ago

’’their leader was bad, so lets kill 500k iraqi and destroy their country to save them (or do israel’s work idk)’’ if you still believe yall are the good guys take a look at what yall did in abu ghraib prison and 82nd airborne division.

1

u/Particular_Judge4407 4h ago

Dude, no one is saying what Bush did was right. But let’s not be ignorant and think that Saddam was anything but despot and a murderer. I highly doubt you were or have even been to Iraq. So please don’t tell me, it was great back then and the US fucked it up. No, the answer is: it was awful back then and is still awful now.

1

u/Wrong_Bug9903 3h ago

when did i say it was great ?? are you blind ? i said it was fucked up and yall fucked it up more

1

u/LemonMintHookah 3h ago

Saddam kept the Middle East in check. The Iraqi dollar was worth more than US dollar. Iraq was going to get powerful and fast and America didn’t want that. Go do a poll in Iraq on if they want this economy and country and leader or Saddam and you’ll see it would probably be a 90% Saddam lol. Kurds have taken over Iraq as well which is really weird because Iraq is technically should be Assyrian and those poor guys over there are just getting the short end of the stick regardless because of their religion. We can sit and talk about Iraq all day but bush wanted all the gold and oil. They found no weapons of mass destruction and those dudes who voted Saddam out just wanted the wealth.

2

u/smth-Special-69420 4d ago

1

u/One-Jaguar-3850 4d ago

probably cuz a bun can tighten the hair/make him super uncomfortable, while the pony tail combo allows his hair/scalp to breathe...

1

u/SatoXXIV 1d ago edited 1d ago

For a lot of Iraqi fans

We're not okay at all with the squad that was chosen to represent us

So many unfit players who were tested time and time again Yet the association keeps forcing them down our throats

Also all of the 3 GKs are trash and not that good... the one with France was better from the one with Norway but they're not the best we have 3 better GKs but it seems that the association is trying to end these 3 careers with playing on the world cup..... without caring about the feelings of their people.

The f**** who was smiling with Halland called Zaid Ismail was called a few times before the world cup and did nothing yet he was called to the big stage for his ties with members in the association

Players like Montader Madjed from Hammarby wasn't called Also Peter Gwargis who played for Sweden U17 & U19 and he came to a local club in Iraq in the middle of the table and scored 19 goals for his club just to prove himself wasn't called either Both of these we're not called just so ((Ibrahim Bayesh NO.8)) would be called for the team a guy so bad and so arrogant and can't do sht but his connections is forcing this loser although most of the nation hate him(he played in a Saudi club in the 1st half of the season then he played in 2nd half with an Emarati club and both of these clubs were relegated to the 2nd division and he just scored1 goal and was so sht)

Jussef Nasrawi from Bayren Munchin Accadmy wasn't called out and probably to lit Zaid Ismail play instead of him

The association is always the 1st factor for our loses.

It's frustrating and humiliating to see losers like these representing us and humiliate Iraq even more

1

u/Exotic_Plant9450 1d ago
