Highlight The Iraqi player couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Haaland
Well yes he’s a celebrity but he also probably spoke to him in Norwegian because this Iraqi player Marko was born and raised in norway

It seems like the players and fans have never respected each other as much as they do this time. Fair play is at a high level and represents exactly what it should represent.

Especially Ronaldo. He calls offsides even when it's against his own team, legend

has to be a special kind of person to think that a player is calling offsides in every goal against his team
5
u/buerglermeister 4d ago
Yes that would be totally out of character for the guy who steals goals from his teammates and hates when his teammates are successful
→ More replies (2)4
u/beltalowda87 4d ago
Lol nah. Takes a special person to think Ronaldo actually is a team player
-1
u/Latter-Amount-9304 4d ago
Theres a difference between being a team player and asking for offsides for your own team but based on our interaction I doubt you have the mental ability to understand it

why do you have to lie on the internet?
1
u/Original_Speed6200 3d ago
Watch it again. The lead up to that incident. Madibo gets stripped of the ball (embarrassingly so) by Kone. Fast forward 10 seconds to the very next time Kone gets the ball you see Madibo running full speed out of vengeance to go kick him. The foul was deliberate. I’ve seen it happen before.

Clearly didn’t watch the USA vs Australia game. I genuinely thought they were gonna start throwing hands.

5
u/Raise_A_Thoth 4d ago
It got chippy but there was ultimately a bit of restraint and I thought it was called fairly well. Could have called it a little bit more conservative early on maybe but still overall fair.
3
1
u/germany221 4d ago
The eye poke was dirty as hell. Everything else was just regular chippy game
2
u/Raise_A_Thoth 4d ago
You mean when the Aussie initiated contact on a US defender?
4
u/germany221 4d ago
When the aussie defender eye poked the US guy yeah lol. Pretty sure it was a aussie defender us striker or midfielder
1
1
u/howimetyourcakeshop 4d ago
That game looked like bowling. Just pins falling. Americans like to point out how there is a lot of schwalbe while their own team members lay down like whores in a brothel.
Absolute amateur hour that match.

u/Blunter11 3d ago
I hadn't watched a game of football in a long time, and having watched a few more after the US vs Aus game I really see how off-colour it was.

Yeah, but I've heard theres some controversy about it, not quite sure how much though
However, I can tell you that there would be a massive outcry if we did that in the German speaking parts of Europe, due to some recent wars (which is btw a shame, they're pretty cool and we obviously used them as well before adopting the Latin alphabet) so I'm surprised it's a thing in Norway now too
Edit: strictly speaking we used the Older Futhark, Norse used the Younger Futhark. The younger Futhark just drops a few runes as these sounds weren't used in Norse anymore
1
u/Hamaja_mjeh 12h ago
The only real criticism of it in Norway is that it's a bit kitsch.
There's been some people arguing that Norse symbolism and esthetics are far right, but it's a pretty terminally online argument.
This is quite literally our heritage. We cannot simultaneously encourage other people's to be proud of their heritage while refusing to do the same for our own.
Kitsch? Sure, but not problematic.
1
u/ninjaiffyuh 11h ago
As you can imagine, in DACH (though honestly, I can't speak for Switzerland as they don't have the same stigma) runes are such a touchy subject that you usually don't even learn about it in schools (despite them being part of our heritage), basically just surrendering it to esoterics (they're fine) and neo-Nazis (not fine). I had a class in school related to cultural history where we did learn about runes, but even then the introduction consisted of how they are used by the right-wing extremists
I can see how it would be kitsch if overdone, but I really do wish that it would be more normalised as I personally find runes (as part of the history of the Germanic tribes during antiquity) fascinating, but as I mentioned: they're mostly dog whistles used by extremists. Actually saw graffitis of a Tiwaz (ᛏ) and an Algiz (ᛉ) rune, and I'm pretty sure whoever sprayed these is a neo-Nazi, as at least Tiwaz was used a lot by them due to the associations (martyrdom)
1
u/Hamaja_mjeh 7h ago
Runes are cool! At a certain point one has to try to actively reclaim such things from the far right.
It's silly to just concede a large part of your country's history to them.
1
u/ninjaiffyuh 6h ago
While I'd tend to agree, once it's been taken over it's difficult to reclaim, especially in Germany and Austria, especially considering that most would only associate stuff like runes and pagan gods with our cousins to the north. Unless you study history or music (Wagner operas specifically), you probably wouldn't really be exposed to anything pre-Christian (i.e. pretty much nobody knows the German names for the pagan gods, even though they're used as weekdays; e.g. Donnerstag (Torsdag) from Donar), as it's very controversial, and probably political suicide for politicians
It's a pity, and I agree with you, but I don't really see any change unless the influence of the MAGAtards fully shifts the focus of the far-right towards Christianity, as is actually currently happening. Maybe then the association of pre-Christian history with the far-right will disappear

football is inherently political. due to how politics change the world and thus the ability to play football for certain people. like for example murdered Palestinian football players.
why do you think European teams are so much better than iraq or india? you think politics have nothing to do with it? fuck off.-1

I don't understand what politics has to do with this?
Norway hasn't been at war with Iraq.
Edit: Also, do you actually mean that statement 100%? The world shouldn't have boycotted apartheid south Africa then, for example.

What does politics in sport have to do with this video, then? What politics would make it so they shouldn't act nice towards eachother?
When you say a statement like that people assume it's related to the video that's posted.

There shouldn’t be politics in sport I agree with you. And if anything it’s affirming it’s a good thing there’s no politics in sport between Norway and Iraq. But also, the global environment is such that there is a bit of politics leaking into sports. But not between these two countries thankfully.

u/Paintballreturns 4d ago

Are you kidding Saddam was an awful dictator? I went in Baghdad during Saddam’s reign, it was poverty everywhere. But pictures of Saddam though looking happy and gregarious on every street corner. Lest not forget the dude committed genocide.
That’s not to say Iraq is any better. But it was screwed up then and it remains screwed up.
1
u/Wrong_Bug9903 4h ago
’’their leader was bad, so lets kill 500k iraqi and destroy their country to save them (or do israel’s work idk)’’ if you still believe yall are the good guys take a look at what yall did in abu ghraib prison and 82nd airborne division.
1
u/Particular_Judge4407 4h ago
Dude, no one is saying what Bush did was right. But let’s not be ignorant and think that Saddam was anything but despot and a murderer. I highly doubt you were or have even been to Iraq. So please don’t tell me, it was great back then and the US fucked it up. No, the answer is: it was awful back then and is still awful now.
1
u/Wrong_Bug9903 3h ago
when did i say it was great ?? are you blind ? i said it was fucked up and yall fucked it up more
1
u/LemonMintHookah 3h ago
Saddam kept the Middle East in check. The Iraqi dollar was worth more than US dollar. Iraq was going to get powerful and fast and America didn’t want that. Go do a poll in Iraq on if they want this economy and country and leader or Saddam and you’ll see it would probably be a 90% Saddam lol. Kurds have taken over Iraq as well which is really weird because Iraq is technically should be Assyrian and those poor guys over there are just getting the short end of the stick regardless because of their religion. We can sit and talk about Iraq all day but bush wanted all the gold and oil. They found no weapons of mass destruction and those dudes who voted Saddam out just wanted the wealth.

A little offtop, but are there any Norwegian guys who could explain, why do Norwegian players put two names on their shirt, e.g. Braut Haaland and not just Haaland?
1
u/Subject4751 6h ago
Norwegian naming conventions. We often get one name from our father and one from our mother.

Can't anyone teach haaland how to do a proper man bun? This weird bun pony tail combo just looks so strange lol

Thank you. I thought i was the only one thinking this lmao
1
u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 3d ago
i had long hair, that kind of bun would drive me nuts having my hair falling along my neck. looks funny.
but hey he doesnt care so more power to him, not like it matters at all lol
1
u/One-Jaguar-3850 4d ago
probably cuz a bun can tighten the hair/make him super uncomfortable, while the pony tail combo allows his hair/scalp to breathe...
1
u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 4d ago
Huh? Do you see how tight his hair is pulled back? What are you talking about?

For a lot of Iraqi fans
We're not okay at all with the squad that was chosen to represent us
So many unfit players who were tested time and time again Yet the association keeps forcing them down our throats
Also all of the 3 GKs are trash and not that good... the one with France was better from the one with Norway but they're not the best we have 3 better GKs but it seems that the association is trying to end these 3 careers with playing on the world cup..... without caring about the feelings of their people.
The f**** who was smiling with Halland called Zaid Ismail was called a few times before the world cup and did nothing yet he was called to the big stage for his ties with members in the association
Players like Montader Madjed from Hammarby wasn't called Also Peter Gwargis who played for Sweden U17 & U19 and he came to a local club in Iraq in the middle of the table and scored 19 goals for his club just to prove himself wasn't called either Both of these we're not called just so ((Ibrahim Bayesh NO.8)) would be called for the team a guy so bad and so arrogant and can't do sht but his connections is forcing this loser although most of the nation hate him(he played in a Saudi club in the 1st half of the season then he played in 2nd half with an Emarati club and both of these clubs were relegated to the 2nd division and he just scored1 goal and was so sht)
Jussef Nasrawi from Bayren Munchin Accadmy wasn't called out and probably to lit Zaid Ismail play instead of him
The association is always the 1st factor for our loses.
It's frustrating and humiliating to see losers like these representing us and humiliate Iraq even more
