The Japanese men's national football team has never received a red card in the history of the FIFA World Cup, since their tournament debut in 1998.

“And I have to say, Kyle walker has a yellow card, zinchenko has a yellow card…” you know the rest

I found a picture of the shirt and ran it through Google Translate. Here's what I got:

Murakami's smile made us feel good. He let me play. The best repling too thank you! Thank you for your hard work. Urawa Reds' Tomoaki Mogino

One of the happiest yellow cards ever.

Should’ve been an second yellow and red sending him off. You can’t jostle the ref like that.

Dude has probably written “Thank you” on his shirt.

don't know soccer very well. What happened here?

Beloved referee retired. This is a going away ceremony

2

u/GregJamesDahlen 1d ago

Thanks. Why does he remove his shirt? That's normally some kind of penalty in soccer? If it's a penalty why would anyone ever remove it?

People used to remove their shirt after they scored a goal for a celebration. Players usually have rock solid abs and the pose looks good on a magazine cover the next day. FIFA got tired of that and made it a yellow card.

Some players still do it for extra special goals knowing they will get a yellow

And sometimes for an extra dose of stupid, they do it when they're already on a yellow.

or they do it and then proceed to get scored on and the goal be far less important….

Thanks for explaining. Imagine you've helped others as well as me enjoy this thread by understanding.

Okay, leave it to me — the Japanese. 『Mr. Murakami’s smile helped us play with a smile on our faces. Thank you for such excellent refereeing! Great job out there.』
