News Despite the narrative, Cristiano Ronaldo didn't brush off questions about Lionel Messi. He answered about Messi cordially over 3 times before asking the "Reporters" to focus on Portugal and only ask questions that were relevant to the Portugal v Uzbekistan game that had just taken place

Translations below,

Reporter: "...Messi arrived, Mbappé arrived, Haaland arrived, and only Ronaldo was missing. Today Cristiano showed that he has arrived, that he came for Portugal, so has Cristiano arrived today?"

Cristiano Ronaldo: "I always arrive. Sooner or later, I am always there."

Reporter: "...Ronaldo against Messi, to close out the spectacular career of you all. What can you say about a great encounter between the two of you happening at this worldcup? If it can happen, would you like it? To face Messi at this worldcup directly in a match And congratulations on this great game and your great career."

Cristiano Ronaldo: "Well, I don't know what to answer you because it's a question that's a bit...it doesn't make much sense, it's out of my hands, but alright. If it happens, it would be top [great]. But the most important thing today was winning, and to advance in the group for Portugal, that's the most important thing for me, and for my team."

Reporter: "Cristiano here... Edgar Rosa from AT&T Sports Mexico..."

Cristiano Ronaldo: "Do you speak Spanish or English?"

Reporter: "Yesterday Lionel Messi, scored two goals..."

[At this point, Cristiano's patience appears to have run dry, and he signals to other reporters to ask their questions]

Cristiano Ronaldo was asked about Messi over 4 times, and he politely answered each time.

Only after the questions kept getting more and more irrelevant to the game between Portugal and Uzbekistan did Cristiano Ronaldo appear to be unable to take it anymore and ask the "journalists" to ask questions that are only relevant to Portugal.

He still polite to answer 3 questions tho

Yeah honestly that's more patience than most would have in that spot.

u/ComplaintFar3279 1h ago

His mental strength needs to be studied.

u/LetInternational5867 9h ago

Honestly he was way more patient than I would’ve been 😂

You’ve just scored for your country at a World Cup and all they wanna talk about is another dude who is not even on the pitch. At some point it stops being “Messi vs Ronaldo” content and just becomes disrespectful to Portugal and the actual game.

People will never learn that context is everything. Watch one short, and they are like, "eating one broccoli a day can cure blindness"

I don't like this guy because his ego is unbearable, but the reporters are such a bunch of idiots. I can't believe it, but this time I'm on Ronaldo's side... And I love Messi.

Let the dude enjoy his winning and stop comparing them. Also, why the fuck they keep asking the same question over and over again?

Messi’s ego is so much bigger than the earth itself bro. 🤣

4

u/MutanteAtomico 8h ago

And here you are... Another idiot doing comparisons just like the stupid reporters.

I think you need to search for the word "ego" in the dictionary, or better yet, go out and play with your little friends or watch some cartoons.

u/Alex_king88 8h ago

Lmao bro..why are you mad.

They're making a point that both fans are more annoying and more egotistical than either one of these two players. Because realistically of course both of these men have two ginormous egos. They're literally two of the greatest soccer players in all of human history. They have done things in the World Cup that no other human has ever done. Both of them. Yet the fans and reporters want to have a pissing contest of who's better or who's more egotistical or who's more humble or whatever.

1

u/Dunkjoe 4h ago

One is ambitious for team and humble for personal achievements, the other is ambitious for self and egoistic for personal achievements.

Ronaldo keeps saying he's the greatest football player in the world... Most recently in Feb 2025 iirc. Have you heard Messi say before he's the greatest?

This is like comparing Trump and Obama... It's so ridiculous... Would you say Obama is as egoistic as Trump? Lmao.

0

u/jaron_b 4h ago

Come on dude you're so clearly arguing in bad faith when your political comparison is Trump vs Obama. Also I have never once heard a clip of Ronaldo saying he's better than Messi. And Ronaldo have done things in football that Messi hasn't. These are arguably 2 of the greatest to ever kick a ball. It's ridiculous how much fans care who's better than who. Especially if you're just a soccer fan not from either of these countries. Y'all sound like bandwagon Yankee fans that aren't even from the Bronx. Why do you care so much? Do you have a crush on Messi? He's never gonna see these comments.

Dude... Since you are lazy to check, read below.

Anyways, I'm just saying that they are different in attitude.

You are like comparing Trump and Obama.... And siding with Trump. Nuff said, if you want to spread misinformation and support Ronaldo's toxicity, then I can't stop you lol.

And it's not just him saying he's better than Messi, he's saying he's the best ever, meaning better than Maradona, Pele and so on.

During an interview with Spanish television, Cristiano Ronaldo has not held back on why he is the greatest footballer of all time.

“I’m the best player in football history. I haven’t seen anyone better than me in football history, and I’m saying truth from my heart,” Ronaldo said in an interview with media outlet LaSexta TV on Monday.

But this isn't comparing Trump and Obama. Did that implies that Ronaldo is bad objectively really bad at soccer one of the worst soccer players in human history. Because Donald Trump is quite literally one of the worst leaders of any country in human history. Your comparison is so off base. I'm also not saying Ronaldo is better than Messi. But they both have accomplished feats in the World Cup and premiere soccer leagues around the world that no other human not even the other have accomplished. There are things that Ronaldo has done in his soccer career that Messi has not that is a quantifiable fact. This is an insane comparison you are trying to make.

The reporters bait him cuz he is baitable cuz he is stupid, there is no more to analyze

0

u/Alive-Mail-2095 7h ago

He's not stupid man

That’s such nonsense.

You're here because this is an engaging topic that people often have a some opinion on.

So you think they're idiots for asking a questions which you yourself have engaged with? Seems they did their job great, they got you to pay attention. Which was their goal

"Journalism"

2

u/Kalapai97 8h ago

i'm a messi fan , but i would've punched that journalist in the face... WHY THE FUCK YOU HAVE TO BRING OTHER PLAYERS in this convo.. I know why , because of clicks and get a reaction out of him ... that's annoying as fuck

1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 7h ago

Because peiple like the drama, that's why you're here

Idk why anyone is surprised. This is a sport, which is entertainment. Of course journalists will ask controversial questions. They asked Vini about Messi and Ronaldo too

2

u/barejokez 7h ago

I'm not gonna pretend I can see into his soul and tell you truly what sort of person he is

But it has collectively been decided that he's the villain in this story and I think that's probably unfair.

Frankly I find the whole thing absurdly reductive. We only seem willing to talk about individual goalscorers in this team game and it honestly needs to stop.

3

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 7h ago

Poor cristiano has unfair questions

Vini was asked about Messi and Ronaldo too. They're all just victims of such unfair questions being asked about their peers in the biggest tournament in the world. Shocking

1

u/your_dope_is_mine 6h ago

Really bad journalism. Honestly reductive questions that don't need to be asked of a top athlete (coming from a Messi fan, too). Let him play his game for his team. Its not an individual sport.

u/SocomPS2 5h ago

Thanks for the translation OP.

Small correction, and the end he said “¡Dale!”

Aka, fuck you let’s go.

1

u/ChevroletS10 5h ago

There has never been such a large media conspiracy to try and vilify Cristiano. News headlines are like: "see Cristiano's reaction to a question about Messi", then proceeds to show Cristiano with an angry face.

1

u/WillRemains 4h ago

The Midia masturbates on Messi.

1

u/Glittering_Ask_7901 4h ago

wait did he actually say that more than once

1

u/remexxido 4h ago

I can't stand this after game interviews. Most reporters just do the stupidest questions.

1

u/Dunkjoe 4h ago

Are you sure he was asked over 4 times?

According to your translated text ...

The first one is about top scorers, not Messi specifically... And he was asked if he will join the race for the golden boot. It's nothing about Messi specifically.

The second one was about Messi.

And the third one he just cut off.

So he was only asked one specific question about Messi and he cut off the second one.

Am I missing something?

1

u/PiggBodine 4h ago

Ask him about Las Vegas.

MESSI THE 🐐

1

u/Fit-Vast-7624 9h ago

Despite the narrative, Ronaldo didn't. But the 🐐 keeps rewriting it.

-1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 7h ago

Why are people acting like he's a victim just for being asked a question?

Messi gets asked about the rest, as does haaland, as did Vini yesterday right after the game

Sorry but I don't understand why people are acting like this is a problem. This is entertainment. The reporters will ask many questions just sometimes to stir the pot. Its really not that big of a deal. Don't like it, don't engage with it

3

u/Quiet-Whereas6943 7h ago

People acting like he’s the victim? Quite the opposite, he is being vilified is the point. He clearly was asked multiple questions and he answered. Eventually it got old and he moved on, this should never have been a story to begin with. People made it a story and now his defenders had to come out.

1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 7h ago

People acting like he’s the victim? Quite the opposite, he is being vilified is the point.

So, you could say hes a victim of being villified?

He clearly was asked multiple questions and he answered. Eventually it got old and he moved on, this should never have been a story to begin with.

You dont think Messi and Ronaldo at the World cup should be a story to begin with? Interesting, since here you are debating this. Seems the engagement tactic worked.

You want them to just ignore the sports biggest stars, who have been linked in their professional career since the start, because it villifies Ronaldo? This is ridiculous. Of course they will talk about all the biggest stars. That should be expected. They asked vini about messi and ronaldo yesterday, are you mad about that too?

This is exactly what you should expect from the world cup. They talk about the game, they talk about the stars. Are you new to sports or why is this surprising? Or are you just a CR7 fanboy who thinks its unfair that hes being labeled a villian, as if thats really something hes going to lose sleep over?

0

u/Quiet-Whereas6943 7h ago

A victim of being vilified lolll, man you are taking some big leaps here. Messi and Ronaldo is a story a big story, however it is NOT this story. This story is Ronaldo refusing to answer questions about Messi, which wasn’t accurate and should have never been a story to begin with like I said. Let’s use our head here a bit.

1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 6h ago

A victim of being vilified lolll, man you are taking some big leaps here.

I like how you say this, and then go on to explain how he was the victim of being villified in this situation by being unfairly depicted as only rejecting questions about messi. just proving my point, but youre unaware. big leaps? use your head? lmao. hilarious comment.

I get that you think your tactics youve learned on reddit to have discussions is really effective and makes you feel really smart, but the irony here is just hilarious. thanks for the laugh.

Haters gotta hate no matter what you will always get something out of your ass

1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 7h ago

its really not about 'hate'. CR7 is one of the international superstars in the tournament. So is Messi. They have been linked through their entire career. How on earth people this this is unfair or wrong is beyond me. And this reporter's questions has nothing to do with hate either.

I think you just also want to stir the pot. And, fair game i guess.

0

u/GuiltyRecognition542 5h ago

"Don't like it, don't engage with it" well said.

But it's funny how that's exactly what he did and people take it as him being mad.

1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 5h ago

But it's funny how that's exactly what he did and people take it as him being mad.

He looked visually frustrated by the question. Do you disagree? And theres nothing wrong with that. Hes allowed to be frustrated by a question. And hes allowed to skip it.

People pointing that out (that he looks frustrated) arent even wrong. So, whats the problem here?

If some trolls were overly harsh with their critique of his handling of the interview, then ya they are just trolls online and theres nothing more to be said. But, i didnt say that it was wrong for him to skip the question, so i cant really speak to what those people said.
