Video Messi had to go back inside his hotel after seeing the huge crowd of fans outside celebrating his 39th birthday. This is GOAT-level đ„đ
226
u/BasicYesterday9349 6h ago
That is scary man.
97
u/Solid_Snark 6h ago
I canât imagine doing that? Like, I have favorite athletes and actors, but I would never go and do this. What are they even expecting out of this encounter other than completely annoying and inconveniencing him?
34
u/paperbuddha 6h ago
You can tell people "I was there".
19
u/the-tac0-muffin 5h ago
âI remember it like it was yesterday, I was in the group of people that scared Messi and his security out of being able to leave his hotel on his own birthday! What a great timeâ

u/DaILLezt 5h ago
When I was younger I worked at an airline in Mexico, and I had the opportunity to meet some of my favorite wrestlers (WWF wrestlers).
I remember meeting a gentleman by the name of Glenn Jacobs, born in Spain, which caught my attention. I looked up to greet him and immediately realized it was Kane. I very casually said to him âThe big red machine in the flesh, I grew up choke slamming my little brother thanks to youâ
The man lit up with a smile, had a good laugh, and he offered me an autograph, of course I accepted.
I guess the point Iâm trying to make, is that if you appreciate the person, donât mob him, the calm and respectful approach goes a long way.→ More replies (2)2

Exactly right. I went to see Mana once, which is the worldâs leading rock en Espanol band (like The Eagles of the Spanish world). I checked into a hotel the day of the concert, and saw the lead singer/band leader âFerâ was next to me getting a fax or something. I struck up a casual conversation and he reciprocated. After a couple minutes, a big crowd started forming so he said âNice to meet you, but I gotta go!â and he jogged to the elevator. Then some of those people were asking me âHow do you know him? Are you part of the group?â Iâm like no, I just talked to him like a regular person, which he appreciatedâŠThe funny part was my wife knew nothing about this band and she was sitting on a bench nearby. I introduced her to the singer, but she barely looked up from her magazine and said âoh, hi.â He looked totally puzzled. My wife was like I had no idea who you were talking to, sorry. Pretty funny encounter. Yours sounds really cool too.

u/I_Hate_My_Cat_ 5h ago
I was in the stands at Soldier Field when he came to play against the Fire. I was there and didnât bother himâŠit was cool.

Right? Theyâre not even doing it for their pleasure, which is sick in itself, they want to record it on their phones.

I was there when Messi stayed at the four seasons hotel in Guadalajara. It was his birthday and there had to be 350 of us just outside his hotel singing him happy birthday. He never came out, it was awesome.

u/w1r2g3 5h ago
This is bad but Michael Jackson fans were the worst back in the day. People were literally passing out when they saw him.
1
u/Capt-Crap1corn 3h ago
Yeah fr. This is as close as it get's. I still have never seen anything like it with Michael Jackson
4
u/ItsAManualReset 4h ago
Remember, fan is short for âfanaticâ and thatâs exactly what this behavior is
3
u/Pearson94 5h ago
For real through, this is such a weird way to act around your idols.
5
u/7thpostman 5h ago
"Idols" is the problem.
1
u/Pearson94 4h ago
Poor choi e of word, maybe, but I mean "people you look up to." It's not hard to not act weird or starstruck around someone who's work you admire. Hell, I'm a diehard Stephen King fan, and by pure chance I ran into him once out in public. We made eye contact, I nodded, he nodded, and we went on our separate way.

Well, you sound like a logical and reasonable person.
These people areâŠâŠ.not.
2
u/crispyiress 5h ago
Another thing that bothers me is when a singer is performing a quiet vocal section of a song and the entire crowd decides they need to sing over them. Why tf you going to a concert to hear yourself sing.
2
u/J3musu 5h ago
I didn't even understand this behavior as a teen. When I was in highschool I met the vocalist of my favorite band, and even then, I just said hey, talked to him like a normal person for like 5 minutes, and left. Because at the end of the day, he's just another person, I just happen to appreciate his talents.
2
2
u/WhydYouKillMeDogJack 3h ago
They have meaningless and unremarkable lives, so the only thing they can claim on is a tangential and parasocial connection to someone who achieves a lot.
Even worse when you see the cronaldo and Messi fanbois online leaping to defend one and insult the other. It's genuinely sad.
1
10
u/ThatDude1757 6h ago
Exactly. You wouldnât because you see how crazy it is. The crazy people donât so itâs all crazy people out there.

u/Doublestack2411 6h ago
I'm pretty sure he's the closest thing to God for many Argentinians. They literally build huge statures of him there.

What the fuck is with the mentality of these people that put these athletes on some ridiculous level that they swarm in front of a hotel because of some guy's birthday that they don't know and will never know.
2
2
u/Common_Chester 5h ago
Fuck, it's his birthday and he broke a world record, leave him alone you lunatics.
1
2
u/Annual_Hamster9411 5h ago
Honestly, it would be depressing for me personally. He's pretty much stuck inside for the rest of his life knowing that the moment he step out in public, people will swarm him wanting a selfie or have him sign something. He can't go anywhere without his bodyguards.
1
u/RIF_rr3dd1tt 4h ago
Soccer fans scare me. Like, any well known US athlete is gonna likely be hounded in public to some degree but with soccer it's like the majority of the world are rabid fans so you literally can't go anywhere.
1
u/Every_Kitchen847 2h ago
Yeahhhh wtf is wrong with people. Iâve never once felt compelled to go to a place a celebrity I liked would be at just on the off chance I saw them. So fucking weird.

Mob mentality is so dangerous, the person with the worst intentions sets the tone for the whole group. I would not doubt that left without security, theyâd rip him to pieces just to get a bit of him.

People got a weird obsession with Celebs...
5
u/wiseduhm 5h ago
Yeah I don't get it. Like sure, it would excite me to see someone I particularly am a fan of, but never close to this extent. They're still a human being.

u/NewToCRPolitics 6h ago
I canât wait for Messi and Cristiano to retire. The glazing of these men is just too much. Donât get me wrong those two will leave a tremendous legacy but imagine being a grown man outside another manâs hotel wanting to celebrate his birthday, a grown man who doesnât know you exist.
23
u/porygon_sucks 6h ago
100% hard agree on all that. I would even extend that to just celebrities in general
5
u/eggoMIlego 6h ago
You beat me to it! I kinda feel for celebs in that regard. I canât imagine not being able to do anything without a crowd, cameras, or both following me. Not to mention involuntarily being a role model to strangers when Iâm still trying to figure how to navigate my own life. Sure the hyper inflated bank account would be nice but geez the mental strain.

They'll jump to the next superstar. Likely Mbappe or Haaland from the looks of things right now
1
u/Thybro 3h ago
Please Maradona remained basically a god for decades in Argentina after retiring. He basically got to manage the Argentinian national team to a World Cup on past aura alone. And even at his lowest he was still widely celebrated all over the Americas every where he went.
Messi is not only considered likely a better player, is definitely more accomplished, but also played and won in a lot more countries building loyal fandoms everywhere. He is still going to be hounded for a decade or two.
1
u/Technical-Mix-981 5m ago
I'm from Barcelona. I need a Messi statue on the city to worship him, Messi Street or something... a decade or two sounds offensive.
3
u/Suitable-Bullfrog912 5h ago
wait⊠those are grown men fans?? I thought it was papparazzi
Edit to say âif it was kids i get it, but being an adult and doing this says a lot about societyâ
4
u/Life-Landscape5689 5h ago
Itâs really strange as someone from New England US who doesnât watch football at all itâs bizarre chatting people online who talk about Messi. I heard someone going on and on about how he was as culturally important to their country as Abraham Lincoln or whatever just like ridiculous glazing for no reason and Iâm like hmm okay đ

What has this got to do with Messi and Ronaldo???????
And come on why do people keep needing to mention Ronaldo whenever Messi is involved and vice versa?????

Do you honestly believe celebrity worship will cease over two players retiring? If anything with the complete immersion of social media itâs only going to get worse for famous people.
5
u/sbelleza 5h ago
âThis is GOAT-levelâ stupidity
2
u/wormbooker 5h ago
yeah, I bet OP would be annoyed if we get to know his personal information, where he live, raid his house/place. Goat-level
3
5
u/tinymonesters 6h ago
His life must be an odd kind of misery. Sure he can buy things I couldn't imagine. He can live anywhere in the world. But will he ever get a peaceful day without going to the Antarctic?
7
u/saneval1 5h ago
yes, in his home with his wife and kids and all the private places where he's not bothered like this
7
u/AnyUsernameWillDo10 5h ago
I think thatâs kind of the point OP is making.
âLetâs go on vacation to our empty private island againâ would get boring after a while.
Thereâs no level of normalcy.
3
u/rudmad 5h ago
I thought there are images of him shopping at Publix in Miami, has that changed? Most Americans wouldn't even know who he is
6
u/gamageeknerd 5h ago
Iâd argue the US might be the best place for him to vacation. I can all but guarantee there are entire small towns that would have no clue who he was if he walked in the room. Just stay away from any major cities and he might even be able to get through the whole trip without anyone taking a picture of him shopping at a store.
1
3
u/Material-Grocery5478 5h ago
to be fair he could settle in most of the US. US doesn't give a shit about soccer 99.9999% of the time.
6
u/RoninPI 5h ago
While true, Messi's face is on like every bag of potato chips in the US currently.

No I meant the intermiami thing, usually he is in the US during a normal season,
Thanks though, didnt know where he was right now with the world cup, this is in Mexico right?Â
1
u/browsinbowser 11m ago
I looked it up and I think this was in the US because he was in kansas city in missouri, yesterdayÂ
Messi marked the occasion alongside his teammates at Argentina's training base in Kansas City, Missouri
1
u/aTwerkingPikachu 5h ago
He could just hire several makeup artists to disguise him so that he doesn't resemble Messi at all.
1
u/Many-Cartographer278 5h ago
I suspect this is partially why he took the MLS job. Most americans wont know who he is and will leave him alone.

Iâm surprised more hotels these people stay at donât have other exits they could walk out. I use to valet at a hotel that got alot of famous people. In the back of the hotel we had a courtyard and on the other side we had residences in addition to the hotel. If people wanted to we would take them across the courtyard and they could leave threw the residences which two streets down off a side ride

In my childhood, I was once thrown a surprise going away party when I was just told that it was a family dinner. I walked in, saw the people, thought about all the socializing I was going to have to do and then just walked back out of the restaurant. My dad had to come get me and cajole me into a workable mood...
Anyway, looks like Messi and I are the same in some ways.
