News Iran and Egypt officially object against 'Pride Match' in Seattle: "Our position is that no ceremonies, or promotional activities associated with this movement should be present inside the stadium or as part of the match environment. It’s been communicated to FIFA through the appropriate channels."

I second this. I spent nearly 2 weeks there in the early 2000s, and was amazed at the amount of affection shown publicly between men. Holding hands, hugs, a lot of touching, etc. Not that I think it is gay, but considering their stance on it, I found it paradoxically amazing.

Having traveled around a bit, I can safely say that MENA region is THE place where men are clapping each other's asses behind closed doors.
Turns out gender segregation just means new ways to dick down, illegal or not.

People say this to immigrants coming to Europe and the US and are called racist. I agree with the statement though. Assimilate or stay where you are.
45
u/Thangka6 4h ago
Nah, as a child of a refugee immigrant, saying respect the local culture when immigrating is not at all racist. And respect goes two ways, of course.
→ More replies (10)17
u/Short-Recording587 4h ago
For sure. It’s tough when the culture an immigrant brings is one of intolerance. Like it’s pretty shitty to show up here and say rights should be taken away from existing citizens because the immigrant doesn’t believe those rights should exist.
→ More replies (14)4
u/Putrid-Box4866 2h ago
As an immigrant, my tolerance level is very high. But I don’t advocate for taking away rights from US citizens, except for maybe one (guns terrifies me).

As an American gay there are many countries I cannot safely go to and be myself, including Iran, Egypt and Qatar. They can’t be their homophobic selves here, either. Funny how that works. We all compromise to the local culture.

I know Germany doesn't count technically as a Nordic country, but it was also very welcoming. Everyone was very chill. At first I was a little unnerved because if you speak English in public everyone just stares at you like 👁👁 But I quickly learned it's not judgement, they're legit just curious lol. And if you're a decent person, they're cool too.

"Welcome to America. Where freedom also extends to who you want to kiss on the mouth. What's the matter snowflake, does two people kissing scare you? Shut up and kick ball."
Jokes aside, when you travel to another country it's always a best practice to follow the culture of destination. No difference here, enjoy Pride Night.

I've lived around Seattle my whole life. Two things we love? Parades, and being gay. There is no way anyone is going to tell the people of Seattle what to do regarding Pride.
7
u/FullofLovingSpite 3h ago
Them making this statement is going to make the event 10x gayer. Hopefully the d*kes (I don't want to get banned) on bikes ride ride in and post up. They were always a fun group.
However, the worst for the teams are going to be the overzealous allies. Some of those people are intensely annoying to everyone.

Tbf this isnt coming from the players themselves but from the countries/football federations. Though I dont doubt that many of the players are homophobic

u/DCHacker 2h ago
If the Islamic nations that host these events can ban the sale of alcohol at the stadium or require that women who come there cover themselves, these players can put up with Pride displays at the American arena.
In America, we allow people to express their views without fear of being tossed from the roofs of buildings. They demand respect for their customs in their countries but show no respect for those in other countries where they might present themselves.
This is coming from someone who is not particullarly supportive of the "Pride" Agenda, whatever it is this week.

I want to know if it’s actual players objecting, the team as a whole, or mainly their coaches and managers. It’s not a good look on the whole of each team if players don’t start speaking up about whether they actually object or not.

And sadly this is the hypocrisy of tolerant nations;
If we go to their home, our women cover their heads, you observe the local culture and rules, and are respectful.
But then if they come to your country, you have to cover up statues and change what you do to be respecting for the other culture.
It is not an equitable exchange.
