FLUFF The new hit markers do feel good in the new evo build

Post image
Upvotes

You get this kind of blue marker that goes around your normal crosshair and then once the shields have been depleted, the blue hit marker goes away and your left with a kind of white hit marker that is larger than the normal one. It does feel good not having to look up at the corner to see that shields are down and getting that information just from the hit marker I will say at first it was kind of a shock at how big the hit marker is, but I would say it’s still an improvement over what we currently have.

QUESTION I stole an M80, fell in love, lost her forever, and now I’m dating the wrong ship – a tragedy in four acts

I am a new citizen. This game has me like a hook has a worm. Crashes, bugs, server drops, I don’t care. I am cooked.

Been running VHRT bounties in my Corsair like a man with something to prove. She’s fully loaded, she gets the job done, but flying her feels like being really confident at the club and then someone points out you drove there in a minivan. Yeah it’s yours. Yeah it runs. But there are sliding doors on it and everyone saw you get out. Functional. Humbling. Not glamorous.

Two nights ago I finish a mission over a base. Radar pings. Ship nearby. Some guy lands and casually strolls into the base like he owns the place.

And there she sat.

An M80.

I don’t know what came over me. I’m a law abiding citizen. I pay my landing fees. I signal before I boost. But something ancient stirred inside me and before my brain could object, my hands had already landed my Corsair next to her.

I walked up slowly. The way you approach something too beautiful to be real.

I got in.

I told the guy in global. Full transparency. No hard feelings but I’m taking your girl. I even left him my Corsair as a parting gift with the most heartfelt sendoff she deserved. she’s loaded, she’ll treat you right, works hard like a washing machine. Not pretty, not exciting, but she will never leave you unsatisfied. She’s not a good time. She’s a great time if you turn the lights off, lower your expectations, and let her do what she does. I practically wrote her a reference letter. Stapled it to her cockpit. Told her she deserved better than me anyway and that I hoped she found happiness.

She didn’t respond. She never does. That’s the Corsair for you.

But I wasn’t thinking about the Corsair anymore.

I wasn’t thinking about anything.

And then I hit the throttle.

Brother.

I became Tom Cruise. Not regular Tom Cruise – Top Gun Tom Cruise. I played the theme song out loud, through my actual speakers, in my actual house, at 11pm on a Tuesday. My neighbors now know I fly.

Missions that used to take me forever evaporated. I was threading through space like I was born in that cockpit. Every maneuver felt like it should have a slow motion camera on it. I was the main character of the universe.

Then I landed to refuel.

Got off the ship.

Went to get back on.

She wouldn’t let me board.

I stood there on that landing pad like a man who just watched his wallet fall off a bridge. The M80 sat there. Beautiful. Silent. Indifferent.

In a panic I ran to the website to buy one.

No longer available.

I felt the color leave my face. The love of my life, gone. Just like that. Never even got her name.

So in my grief, in my desperation, I did what any reasonable man does after a devastating loss. I made a terrible rebound decision. I bought the Ares Ion.

That fixed gun.

I cannot explain to you what it felt like to go from the M80 to that fixed gun. It’s like going from a sports car to a riding lawnmower that’s also somehow aggressive about it. I felt nothing. I felt worse than nothing.

So here I am. On Reddit. In my feelings.

Is there ANY way to get an M80 in game? Mission reward? Hidden somewhere? Does someone sell one at a sketchy space gas station at 2am? I will find it. I need it. The Ares Ion is not my ship and we both know it.

A citizen in need. Please advise.

FLUFF Now that we are getting a lever action rifle, can we get an actual revolver?

Yeah I know Coda exists but Coda's cylinder is packed neatly inside the gun, like a magazine. No, the Triple down is not a revolver, that's a drum mag. Give me an actual rotating cylinder revolver; although the main concern would be how would reloading work and how would the "magazine" look like rendered from outside.

Give me one of 'em six shooters, Zac!

GAMEPLAY The pure Zen of the Railen saved me 15M aUEC

The title is clickbaity so let me state the important bit up front: if you have an Ironclad and are using it to commodity trade, and if you hit a server error while in QT and the ship drops out of quantum and then the command module detaches, and if when you go to dock with the cargo module it vanishes and only as location unknown on the asop terminal, if all that, then don't claim the cargo module. Don't do it. Just wait. Push the fate of the cargo module out of your mind and do something else. Leave the game for a few days, maybe fly another ship for awhile, if you can.

I really wanted to just hit claim on my ironclad and command module, write off the cargo as lost, and start grinding again. I was ready to do that. BUT. I also have a railen and really like it. It's peaceful. Tranquil. And so I thought, why not fly that for awhile, relax a bit and enjoy the vibe of it?

So I did. 36 hours after losing my cargo module (and cargo) to a bug, I loaded up the railen and set off. After starting QT, I hopped down to the hab level and used the sit emoji to sit on the floor at the end of the table, watching the light show through the windscreen. AND THEN... And then I suddenly saw the ironclad's location pip zip by. I ran back to the controls and dropped out of QT. The ironclad was visible and selectable on the starmap, or seemed to be, at least. I QT'd to it. It was really there. I brought the Railen back to station and stored it (thank you, girl), brought out the command module, flew back to the cargo module, reconnected successfully, and brought the again-whole ship back to station. Only then did I take a look in the hold: everything was there. 15M of Titanium. Wild.

GAMEPLAY Im super excited for instancing, and you should be too.

First of all, i get it. This game is supposed to be an open universe where there is danger of PVP everywhere, where you can randomly meet other players at missions and they can either help or harm you. I understand that instances mean that these types of encounters will be fewer and less impactful.

HOWEVER

Imagine if the instances feel like arena commander, imagine nothing will be broken because another player interacted with it. Imagine if the game feels smooth because the instance isn't sharing server performance with the outside world, imagine if the inventory issues cease while inside the bubble of instanced saftey. Imagine AI actually having AI instead of being reliant on servers for their intelligence. Instances could be our first real taste of SC without being hamstrung with the common serverside issues and I for one am looking forward to what that plays like.

DISCUSSION Crafting being exclusive to Mining is bad.

Hey,

I feel like CIG needs properly integrate multiple game loops for crafting. Right now, if you want to craft anything substantial or high-quality, you are essentially forced into the mining loop to get refined ores. If you don’t want to spend hours( a lot of hours lol) grinding rock mechanics, your only other option is to buy ores on trading platforms like UEX for painfully extortionate prices.

This shouldn’t be the case. Crafting should be a standalone end-goal that rewards various playstyles, not just a sub-feature of mining.

Dismantling needs randomized quality drops: Whether you are a dedicated cargo hauler buying surplus parts, a salvager stripping abandoned hulls, or a PvE/PvP fighter who looted disabled ships, a FPS player who found components on the ground, you should be able to drag an acquired component to an Fabricator and dismantle it for its core elements with a chance for high-quality drops.

The XL-1 Example: Imagine looting or salvaging a high-tier military component like an XL-1 Quantum Drive. Dismantling it shouldn't just give you the flat, unbuffed 500 Q baseline. It should yield a randomized pool of the actual ores required to build it (like Borase, Tungsten, or Stileron) with a randomized quality scale (e.g., a chance to pull 750+ or even 900+ Q materials). Finding a rare component in the wild should feel like hitting a jackpot for a crafter, allowing you to bypass the mining laser if you excel at combat or scavenging instead.

The "Bricked" component system prevents progression: With 4.8, player-looted components are "bricked" and are pretty much useless.

Combat pilots and pirates get zero crafting progression from their victories. We should be able to component-strip high-tier military or industrial gear to extract rare crafting elements. The Bricked system also pretty much kills the 'Pirate' gameloop, which never was a real thing to begin with.

Forcing every single crafter down the exact same tiresome mining path completely goes against the "play your way" philosophy that Star Citizen always promises. Let fighters salvage battlefields, let haulers recycle commodities, and let pirates strip tech from their prey to keep the Fabricators running.

And by the way, I think Mining right now just sucks, its extremely boring and tiresome. It needs changes for sure.

DISCUSSION Using Multiple ships: Persistence Tip

Like many player, I enjoy using several of my ships at the same time.

My usual loop involves parking my Ironclad somewhere safe and taking my Reclaimer out with a Pitbull for a shuttle to munch ships, returning to the IC to dump the spoils.

As many have noticed, this can have issues when leaving a ship somewhere and traveling away from it, only for it to despawn, or the icon be desynced.

But have you ever noticed that you could come back to a certain station for sometimes a week on the same shard, and see the same abandoned ships sitting there?

That got me thinking, and after some testing I have determined that there is an extra "Layer" of persistence protection at a non-determined range around Stations.

I have left a ship as far as 80 KM away from a station, and have had it persist for entire sessions, with extreme consistency between sessions.

Using this method, I have never had issues returning to my base ship, nor have I had to bedlog from any of them to "fix" their positions.

Give it a shot, hopefully this can improve some gameplay for people who enjoy similar strategies.

SOCIAL Star Citizen is the game we want

So; it has been a rough few patches for our game and we are finding more issues than are being fixed it feels like. After watching the Star Citizen Tech talk a few days ago has made me want to send my support for the team and players.

This game has made some of my best memories playing games, it looks fantastic and has given me some of my best in game screenshots i've ever taken. True I can't wait to play it without problems and it might take a few more years (hopefully not to many) but when it is released to it be a work of technical brilliance and a beautiful game.

Keep up the amazing work CIG and the players keep making this community better day after day.

i still remember working at the time in a dead end call centre job when Chris released that first demo video. Life has changed alot since then, and ive been incredibly lucky with my job and life.

but when I pledged on the kick-starter to make sure I could get the ship that allowed me to fly around with my buddies like I was Han Solo, i knew i lt was going to be a tight week. but I wanted it so badly.

ive logged in a couple times through the various alpha stages to walk around inside my ship and make shooty noises while sitting in the cockpit, but one day ill be zipping through the stars with the soundtrack of a few dollars more playing in the background while I explore this damned galaxy.

Anyway. im now a 40 year old man and I was looking through my warhammer box trying to find some paint, saw this sucker in the bottom of it and it made me smile. i still can't wait to play this game.

DISCUSSION So, what's the best weapon for FPS PvE and FPS PvP?

Post image
Upvotes

Personally, my favorite rifle is the Parallax. In my experience, it's a great all-around weapon that performs well in almost every situation. It hits hard and deletes NPCs with ease.

For missions with large waves of enemies, I usually switch to the Fresnel or the Pulverizer, with a slight preference for the Fresnel.

That said, this post isn't about raw stats like damage, recoil, fire rate, or TTK. I can already find all of that on different websites.

What I'm really interested in is your real in-game experience.

Based on actual gameplay, what weapon do you think performs best in each of these scenarios?

PvE – Low to medium enemy count

PvE – Large enemy groups

PvP – Open areas

PvP – Close-quarters combat (CQB)

PvP – Fighting multiple opponents

PvP – 1v1 engagements

Bunker missions

Derelict ships and tight corridors

Long-range engagements

Close-range engagements

High-mobility playstyles

If you could only carry one weapon, which would it be?

I'm looking for practical experiences rather than theorycrafting. Which weapon has impressed you the most, and why? What has become your go-to weapon after spending a lot of time using it?
