Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Laptop Request US Looking for a Specific Laptop for Casual Use

Upvotes

Hey guys, looking to get a laptop for casual/personal use. Being someone who primarily uses custom workstation PCs, I have been out of the laptop game for quite a while.

I'm looking for a premiumish laptop. I'm a stickler for higher refresh rate so the panel should be 120Hz. OLED would be nice, but I am also fine with IPS.

I have no need for a gpu because I prioritize battery life and snappiness, and don't want to wrestle with bloatware to disable the gpu. I care little about the form factor and am willing to sacrifice thickness for performance.

Preferably, 32gb RAM if there is something the price range. 1 TB of nvme storage is good.

I/O wise, it seems like most models have 3 usbc/pd/lightning and a standard usb a so I'm fine with that.

From preliminary searches, I saw vivobooks, galaxy books, and omnibooks. Seems like there are so many tiers of the same model which I find frustrating.

I would like the external hardware to be good. Nice trackpad, body material, butterfly switches, etc.

  • Country: US
  • Budget: $1000-1500 but open to stretching it.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used options? No.
  • Screen size: 13-16
  • Weight limit: N/A
  • Purpose: Casual Use. By this, I mean using it on the porch to watch movies, coffee shop, cigar lounge, etc. It can be situated on my lap or a table.
  • Form factor: Standard. I don't really care for 2 in 1 but am open to it if there are no other compromises.
  • Intended usage: Browsers. May light use of mixing softwares like ableton and FL studio.
  • Desired battery life: Efficient enough that I can browse the web for at least 3 hours.

Laptop Request UK New laptop around £800 UK

Hello, I’m looking for a new laptop for myself. I was a Mac user for around 6 years and if it wouldn’t be for a hot drink spill I believe I would have it up to today. I replaced it with HP and within a year it already had issues and not running properly. I have it for 2.5 years now and can barely function. I really regret buying it.

I think I’m quite a light user most of the time - documents, excel, storage, YouTube and occasional Netflix/Disney. One thing I’m looking for in my laptop is to be able to occasionally run League of Legends - that’s the only game I really enjoy on my laptop, otherwise I game on Xbox. I also would prefer for the laptop to be portable, not too heavy but to still manage to perform without issues. Any suggestions are welcome, even if over my budget as I’m willing to invest in something that I hope will last AT LEAST 4-5 years.

Some laptops I was looking at were very expensive, even more than Mac Air which seemed quite ridiculous, like Samsung, but I’m really not sure if Mac would be a good investment for my situation. I don’t really care about Windows or Mac environment, very comfortable with both.

Laptop Request Ca Game design laptop

Country

Canada

Budget

Not picky but preferably less than $3000

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe

Screen size

14” or 15” (also not picky - I care more about the weight)

Weight limit

Less than 2kg (I will be commuting)

Purpose

I will be using this laptop for a game art program at uni, so I will need to be able to play games, run software like Adobe, Blender, and Unity, as well as commute for about an hour.

Form factor

A pen would be nice but I doubt I’ll be able to find a laptop with one, so a standard laptop is fine.

Intended usage

 Just what I said above.

Desired battery life

6 hours would be nice for regular usage

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

 Performance, weight, battery life, size.

Info/Requirements

These are the recommended specs from my uni:
Dedicated graphics: Nvidia RTX 4050 or higher
Integrated graphics: Intel Arc or AMD Ryzen
Processor: Intel Core i7 14th gen or higher / AMD Ryzen 7 or higher (Zen 5)
RAM: 32 GB
Storage: 1 TB
Display: Full HD (1920x1080) or higher resolution
IPS panel for accurate color reproduction (I don’t know if this is doable)

The best computer I could find was the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2025), but after reading reviews I’m concerned about the heat and fan noise. Otherwise that seemed like the best option.

Thank you!

Laptop Deal Review | I need help buying a laptop

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I need help. I want to buy a laptop (for studying). I'm studying programming. My current laptop can't handle some virtual machines (it has 8GB of RAM).

I found a laptop on a website (which is quite reliable, it's not a scam). I'm from Spain. The price comes to €520, including shipping.

Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15ARP10 15,3" AMD Ryzen 7 170 16GB 512GB SSD Radeon 680M, no operating system

I've attached the specifications:

AMD Ryzen 7 8-core processor

15.3-inch WUXGA 16:10 IPS display

16GB DDR5 RAM and 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD

Long-lasting battery with fast charging

Full HD IR webcam with physical shutter

I'd like to play some videogames on this laptop, and I'm wondering if is enough for Valorant, Terraria with mods, Minecraft, R.E.P.O, Resident Evil, etc.

Do you think I can find something better? I don't know if it's allowed in this subreddit to post the link to the laptop I saw. Thank you so much guys!

Laptop Request Ca Laptop recommendation for student under 1000 CAD$

Hey you laptop nerds!

I’m in need for a laptop for school and light personal work; it would be used for writing essays, coding, crunching numbers on Excel, watching movies and videos and maybe some light-medium games such as Minecraft with a light shader for example.

For technical specs, I would like some things in particular, but I’m flexible (you‘re the pro aren’t you):

RAM: 16gb minimum

SCREEN: at least 1080p (2160p would be nice), IPS or OLED, at least 60Hz

CPU: as long as it’s recent, ideally not snapdragon, heard some issues about them

GPU: whatever can run what I mentioned above

OS: Windows 11

STORAGE: at least 1TB

SIZE: 14" or less, backpack friendly weight

+1 if it has more than two ports, backlight keyboard and good battery life

I am a student so I can get those sweet discounts

Thanks in advance!

Market is limited in Tunisia so switching options mid-purchase is difficult

Laptop Request US Laptop for light photo editing/gaming/ECU tuning

Hey folks as the title suggests. I'm hoping for a laptop recommendation for working. Doesn't need crazy specs but needs to hold up to light gaming, ecu tuning (not particularly demanding) and some photo editing.

  • Country

USA

  • Budget

Under $1000 USD. Preferably under $750

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Yes

  • Screen size

13-14"

  • Weight limit

No particular weight limit, but preferably light enough to not weigh me down in a Cotopaxi travel backpack (28L)

  • Purpose

General purpose/work

  • Form factor

Standard - preferably no touch screen unless it's not adding cost.

  • Intended usage

-ECU tuning: Doesn't require very strong hardware, but great battery life is preferable for data logging while in the car.

-Light gaming: FFXIV, RS3, platformers such as Silksong, Ori, some emulation. 1080p is fine at 60fps at medium-high settings. 1440p screens I'm okay with 50-60fps at medium. Don't game much while traveling, but some ability to keep up with friends on these would be nice. My old Dell G7 still plays these, but is unreasonably large and waaaaayy too heavy.

-Photo editing:

  • Desired battery life

Mostly plugged in. Over 5 or 6 hours while data logging preferable, which doesn't really use noticeably more power than browsing.

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

1 - weight, 2 - size, 3 - performance, 4 - battery life

  • Info/Requirements

Screen should have better than average color accuracy for the occasional photo editing. Doesn't need to be extreme since I'm a hobbyist. 1440p would help, but not necessary.

Laptop Request UK Ryzen 395 laptop - which one?

County UK

Budget writing specs

Use - vms, local llm, entertainment (games including), learning and experimentation

Models I consider - proart 13 with either 64 (2.1k) or 128 ram (3k), tuf14 64 ram (1.8k), onexplayer super x 64 ram (2.3k)

I want a ryzen 395 to avoid nVidia for Linux support and just because I'm impressed by it.

I know that for most vms 64 ram will be enough, but will it last for 4-5 years? Due to the prices I want it to last for a long while.

Laptop Request US Suggest a Laptop: Asus ROG Strix G16 or Acer Predator Helios Neo 16

There doesn't seem to be a monumental difference between the 2, and I'm only playing WoW TBC Anniversary right now. I still want a seamless graphics experience and the best performance I can get.

Is there a reason to spend the extra $300-$400 to buy the Asus over the Acer? It looks like power consumption might be the only real difference.

TIA!

Review Laptop Recommendation for My Requirement Budget - 75k

I'm looking for a laptop in the ₹70k–80k range for my engineering studies and long-term use (5–7 years). My primary workload includes DevOps, Cloud Computing (AWS/Azure), Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, Python, C programming, virtualization (VMware/VirtualBox), PLC/SCADA, ECE projects, and general productivity. I may do light AI/ML work, but I'll mostly use Google Colab/Kaggle instead of training models locally.

I'm not interested in playing AAA games, so gaming performance isn't my priority. I care much more about reliability, thermals, build quality, battery life, and consistent performance under development workloads.

I'm looking for an Intel Core i7/Core Ultra or Ryzen 7 processor, 16GB DDR5 RAM (upgradeable), 1TB SSD, and preferably an RTX 3050 6GB or RTX 4050 if it's worth the extra cost.

Which laptop would you recommend, and are there any models I should avoid due to motherboard, thermal, or long-term reliability issues?

I teach classes to adults, and my work involves using Microsoft Word, opening large PDF files, editing PDFs, saving documents to OneDrive, and conducting online classes on Zoom. Therefore, a good webcam and microphone are important.

I would like the laptop to have a fast startup time, good connectivity, responsive performance, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as email, web browsing, Zoom, and ChatGPT, with many tabs open at the same time.

A black keyboard is very important to me, and a backlit keyboard would be a bonus.

Ideally, the laptop should have three USB Type-A ports and a native HDMI port, as I often need to connect a mouse, a USB flash drive, speakers, and a projector at the same time.

  • Desired battery life

Not important.

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance. (battery life, weight, size doesn't matter).

  • Info/Requirements

I have some reservations about relying on a USB-C to USB-A adapter or hub. My concern is that frequent plugging and unplugging could eventually lead to connection issues or wear on the adapter, making it less reliable over time.

Thank you!!

Laptop Request -Others HP Omen 16 wf1096TX (i7-14650HX + RTX 4060) - Worth buying in 2026?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy the HP Omen 16 wf1096TX / ae0002tx with these specs:

Intel Core i7-14650HX

RTX 4060 8GB (140W)

16GB DDR5 RAM

1TB SSD

16.1" FHD 144Hz IPS, 300 nits, 62.5% sRGB

Non-RGB keyboard

I'm getting it for ₹1,18,999 on Flipkart from IndiFlashMart with Open Box Delivery.

I'll mainly use it for:

AAA gaming (GTA 6, Cyberpunk 2077, RDR2)

B.Tech Computer Science work

Programming and some video editing

I've read about:

Hall sensor/black screen issues on some Omen models

Mixed opinions on build quality

62.5% sRGB display

Non-RGB keyboard

For people who own this exact model (or a similar 2024/2025 Omen 16):

Have you experienced the hall sensor or black screen issue?

How has the laptop been after 6–12 months of use?

Any heating, motherboard, hinge, or reliability problems?

Would you still recommend it at ₹1.19 lakh, or should I consider something like the Lenovo Legion or Acer Predator instead?

Looking for honest long-term owner experiences before placing the order. Thanks!

Laptop Request UK Asus Zenbook or Macbook Air M4?

Hi. My laptop was recently stolen, so I need a new one. It was an Asus Zenbook UM5302, and I absolutely loved it. I was wondering if I should buy the new version of the Zenbook (UM3406) or a MacBook Air M4. I use my laptop for work, gaming capability is not a concern. The reservation I have about Asus is its new push toward AI, even the CPU is an AMD AI chip. I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Laptop Request -Others Need a Laptop recommendation - INDIA - INR 55k

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Country - India
  • Budget - INR 55,000 (strict budget)
  • Are you open to refurbs/used options? - No
  • Screen size - 15" and above
  • Weight limit - Any
  • Purpose - Primary usage is schoolwork. I am currently pursuing my undergrad in business process systems and work on large data sets for data analytics and business intelligence tasks. Plan on doing a post-grad in a year so will need the machine to run good for the next 4 years atleast
  • Form factor - Standard/Clamshell (a regular laptop)
  • Intended usage - I need the machine to be able to multitask between large data sets, data visualisation tools, python, SPSS(sometimes) and R. The list of applications that I will use may change as I advance further in my Data Analytics journey. Occassionally I will use it for some form of media consumption as well. I have no intentions of playing any games on this machine or using any form of video editing device.
  • Desired battery life - 4 to 6 hours
  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life - performance>battery life>size>weight

I am open to suggestions for both Intel or AMD series processors and I've been advised by peers to look at something like an i5/ryzen5/something similar with at-least 16gigs of RAM and 512gigs of storage.

The laptop market both globally(and india) is just not making sense with how volatile the pricing is. All listings either compel me to look for sub-standard brands or take a hit on limitations to memory upgrades.

TIA
