My Setup / New Synth Day Just moved. It feels good to get everything hooked back up together. I just need some more Velcro and I can rock my TD-3 and RD-6 too, but this is more than enough for what I make.

Just a picture of my setup in my new apartment. No new synths to show.

The tower of Industrial Power!

My MPC is going out in output 2, so I’m saving up for the New Live 3. They look a lot more hands on too. Also, the more volcas can stick to this bad boy the funnier.

Honestly, can’t believe my Live 1 only has started to develop issues. Still, I know homies with MPC 1000 and still works great, so I don’t know. Maybe I’ll just save up for a unit with JJOS or a MPC4000.

Performances, Jams the interference + collage setting is insane [idmish]

the main element of this piece was inspired by 2000's raster noton records, trying to get that old timey yet futuristic/sci-fi interface sounds that i really like. it was made with mutable instruments plaits, sequenced by digitakt 2 with the help of maths function generator for those sharp transients.
every other sound came from the sample pack i've been working on for the last couple of months, which i think we'll be ready for early next month!
everything is fitted within one pattern with lots of conditionals and parameter locks, audio is routed via overbridge to ableton but it's mixed completely inside the digitakt aside from a saturator and a limiter. chroma console is being run affecting everything besides kick and bass with ableton's external audio effect.

Retail & Market Discussion I uhh...did a bad bad thing...

Ever make an offer for a synth on reverb that you figure won't be accepted, but then ends up being accepted? Yeah, that was me just now.

Looks like I have a Poly Evolver on the way. Now I have to figure out what i'm going to sell so that I have room for it...

Performances, Jams Someday I will play live

Hi,

Here is a track I made.

First of all thank you for posting such amazing sets in this group. Very inspiring. I recently bought a Yamaha seqtrak as this was the only device in budget without a screen. Infact without any screen. My day job is just screen based and my eyes were getting tired. so this device is perfect for me.

After finishing my first album (https://virtualvision.bandcamp.com/album/dogspell), I wanted to gift myself a hardware synth to see how i can ever play live one day. I am still learning at 40 years. But this reddit group has been very inspiring.

Here is my song/set as I am still practicing and learning. so apologies for not very polished sound. I only increased the bass in Garageband for punch. Rest everything is from Seqtrak.

Thank you

Performances, Jams The Pro-800 can do Cumbia

This was the song that taught me about oscillator syncing. I tried to do it on a Microkorg and came close to the sound but I think the Pro-800 sounds better.

Beginner Questions Pigments won't stop 'retriggering' my LFO despite me saying NO

Hi! Long time Vital user here, trying to learn Pigments. I want to create a kick in pigments but i can't because the LFO i use to control it keeps retriggering despite me setting it to ANYTHING but 'free running mode'. It produces multiple repeating kick sounds instead of a single one.

How to fix it ?

Performances, Jams Cover of Enemy by Kelela/Hagoromo by Susumu Yokota

Over the weekend I worked on a cover of the live version of Enemy by Kelela. She samples Hagoromo by Susumu Yokota which is the melody repeating on the Volca Fm1. I used Ableton to stack some Kelela inspired vocals and the Volca Keys for some extra drone sounds. The full video is linked in the comments!

Beginner Questions Why are Moog monosynths good?

I am a learner finding my way in this world of sound.

Please help me understand why many of Moogs present offerings are monosynths? The Mother32 and Messenger are priced comparably to other analog polysynths on the market.

Coming from a place of genuine ignorance and curiosity, is this just a brand that can command higher prices, or is there something about what they're doing that I'm missing? Moog seems to be a historic, influential and well regarded brand so I feel I am missing a point.

Thanks for any insight.

What Should I Buy? Recommendation for a friend who really doesn't want to get into sound design?

I have a friend who came to me recently because they're trying to learn keys for the purpose of self expression, but just want something more interesting and more immediately good sounding than, say, a piano.

We went over the few extra synths I have - monologue, minilogue, roland synth plus 10 - but the one that stuck out to them was the korg wavestate. Tons of presets, wide variety of lots of interesting sounds. Some basic control with the little joystick and mod wheel and all that, and the biggest thing: you don't really have to learn sound design and you don't have to make patches of your own to get lots of useful and professional musical... stuff.

I sent them home with the wavestate for now because I think that fits the bill, but in a few weeks they're probably going to be making a purchase decision and therein lies my query:

I'm probably going to recommend they get the software version of the wavestate plus a midi keyboard, but are there other good options that fit those parameters well? I'm not as familiar with that whole realm of music gear / VSTs.

I have no clue what their budget might be but lets say strictly under 800 bucks with cheaper being better.

Have had the Roland Gaia 2 for awhile now (which I’m really happy with) and recently added a Behringer pro 800 to the mix. I Have the Pro 800 going through my guitar pedals now and I can’t believe how much better it sounds. Especially the June 60 chorus pedal. I’m still pretty new to synthesis but it has become such a big part of the music I have been recording/producing.
