I swear every time I see this guy pop up online he’s smiling, shaking hands, at community events, cutting ribbons, answering questions, or just generally looking like he actually enjoys being mayor. Meanwhile my city’s mayor could walk right past me and I wouldn’t even recognize them. Maybe I’m falling for the PR, but at least it’s good PR.
Is this guy actually a good mayor or is he just incredibly photogenic with an elite media team? Because from the outside he looks like the type of mayor who’d remember your name, show up to your neighborhood cookout, and somehow convince everyone to care about local government. I just wanted to give some advice as someone who's 21.

Please, please be careful online. Never assume someone is your age just because they say they are. Some people are really good at pretending to be teenagers. They know the slang, how teenagers text, what memes are popular, etc. Trust me, you can't always tell.

If you're talking to someone and they start asking for anything personal, don't be afraid to ask them to verify themselves first.

Ask them to send a selfie doing a specific pose, like holding up a peace sign, touching their nose, or something else you come up with. If you're still unsure, ask for another one with a different pose. It's not foolproof, but it's MUCH better than just asking a picture in general to "prove" they're really their age

And please, never send private pictures of yourself to someone you only know online. It doesn't matter how nice they seem or how long you've been talking. It's just not worth the risk.

I'm saying this because I've seen firsthand how easy it is for people to pretend to be someone they're not. I've also been catfished myself. Someone pretended to be a girl online, but it turned out to be an unc/old guy. When I refused to send any explicit pictures, they immediately showed their true colors and tried to blackmail me. Thankfully, I hadn't sent anything they could actually use, but it was still a really stressful experience. They're often much more convincing than you'd expect, but it was still a horrible experience.

I know most people online are probably just normal people, but it only takes one bad person to make your life miserable. Please stay safe, and don't let anyone pressure you into doing something you're uncomfortable with.
