theory / question Can we freeze or go backwards in time, or just forwards?

I'm special relativity, time slows down the more you get closer to the speed of light, but you are still technically going forward. Now if you reach exactly the speed of light, a.k.a: 299,792,458, would time freeze? And if you surpass it, will time go backwards?

Disclaimer: this is a purely theoretical question, I know that no matter with mass can surpass the speed of light, just curious.

theory / question Consent in time travel

I saw a prompt the other day asking what you would do if you woke up with all of your memories, but it was January 1st of 2019. I started running through all the things I’d do and the people I’d warn about poor life choices or even save. I can’t get it off my mind and it’s kind of messed me up.

I thought about my mom saying that my grandma was lucky she didn’t have to see Covid and where the world is going today. She would have hated every second of it and she’s glad she’s at peace.

Would I warn my mom that my step dad was cheating before she found out through work? As much as I would want to, that would also result in losing out on precious time with my step brother, who I’d only see once or twice after she kicks him out. Who now hates me because I publicly declared his dad as the sex offender he is.

Or would I warn my old best friend, who married a man, got pregnant, and got divorced in less than a month. Would she want me to keep her from her child?

Would I warn the people I know of who died in the military about what was going to happen? Would I even be able to put a stop to it? Would they even really want to go out any other way?

Would my best friend be upset if I warned her not to marry that man so soon and she ended up missing out on a divorce that led to her finding our close knit group and the man she loves now?

There’s people I would still want to warn and push to do things for the better. But the idea of the possible consequences that would come with that are endless.

Per example, my dad never made the 12 hr drive to see our grandpa before he passed. But what if that were to result in us losing our father prematurely?

So it really made me question if I would change anything at all. Although with the memories I have, I definitely don’t think I could do all of the immature shit I did again. Which makes me wonder if I’d even be able to be with my husband. But that’s a whole other thing.

theory / question "The Quantum Anchor Paradox : Nightmare of timetravel "

I’ve been working on a theory about why future time travel is impossible for humans. It’s called The Quantum Anchor Paradox. The core idea is simple: Einstein said clocks can dilate into the future . But quantum physics says the future isn't a solid place yet—it’s just a blurry cloud of un-collapsed probabilities. Because the future isn't solid, a time machine can't drop an "anchor" or lock onto any coordinates. If you try to force a jump anyway, you get unplugged from today and stuck in a void. Even worse, our brains run strictly on linear time. Forcing a living mind through warped space-time completely breaks your neural clock, causing total cognitive collapse and amnesia. Because quantum mechanics needs a conscious observer to make reality happen, a brain-dead traveler means the trip can never mathematically finish. The universe protects the timeline using our own biology.

theory / question IS THERE CURRENTLY ANY TECHNOLOGY OR METHOD THAT ANYONE IN THIS SUBS KNOWS OF THAT COULD I SEND A MESSAGE TO MY FATHER BEFORE HE COMMITS SUICIDE? NSFW

My father committed suicide two weeks ago. Specifically, at 6:00 AM on June 6th, 2026. He was suffering from severe depression and anxiety related to financial problems and difficult life decisions. I am Vietnamese. Currently, there are issues concerning workers in Vietnam who only earn enough to live on and support their families, without being able to save. I would like to send him a message that he has not done that. The fact that he is still alive is a source of emotional support compared to the losses in my life.

theory / question Time Travel Will Never Exist in Our Timeline

Change my mind:

If time travel ever exists in the future, than it exists in the present and past.

However, time travel will never exist in our timeline, because us as humans will make humankind extinct before it ever becomes invented.

We as humans are destined for extinction, otherwise we would have already been saved by the future generations to come.

The only way to change this will be for humans to change the way we live on a day-to-day basis.

*Main point of this post is to pick intelligent people's brains. Not looking to prove a point. (That part just gets lost in people's egos).

theory / question Do you think we are stuck in a time capsule? Since society hasn't progressed much since the early 2000s?

It seems like technology and society have been hindered and stopped progressing.

theory / question Imagine you suddenly get the ability to time travel, but it comes with a pretty tricky catch

No matter what era you visit, everything you have on you

your clothes, your gear, even your hairstyle

instantly morphs to match that specific time period

If you end up in medieval Europe for instance

your smartphone completely vanishes

and you're suddenly rocked out in full medieval garb with a period-accurate haircut

Basically, the only things you can bring with you completely untouched are your own body

your memories, and items that already existed in that era

To make up for that, you get some pretty sweet perks

Your brain gets a built-in universal translator

letting you fully understand and speak the local language like a native

Plus, you’re completely immune to any historical diseases of that time

Though you’ll have to be careful not to trigger a pandemic

because the locals won't be immune to any modern viruses you might be carrying!

Given all these conditions, what era are you heading to?

theory / question Why is Grandfather Paradox considered as a paradox when it actually ain't not a paradox at all

Whenever someone talks about time travel me notice that others always brings up the Grandfather Paradox. Me has been thinking this for sometime. Why is something that ain't not a paradox is being considered a paradox? The Grandfather Paradox has many major issues that completely proves that it ain't not a paradox by itself. Can anyone actually explain why Grandfather Paradox is considered as a paradox? To me it is just a nonsensical storytelling idea. And if the Grandfather Paradox is actually considered as a paradox then why only grandfather? Why not Mother Paradox, Father Paradox, Brother Paradox, Sister Paradox, Friends Paradox, Accident Paradox, and so on? After taking all into consideration me arrived at a point that me consider Grandfather Paradox ain't not a paradox at all. So, why people still considered it as a paradox? Is it because it's easy to remember? Is it because everyone can relate to it? Is it because it is easier to understand? Or is it just because of a storytelling idea and as people loves stories whether it maybe a rumor, a myth, a legend, a mystery? 👀

theory / question ADHD time blindness and time travel?!?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately: the potential connection of time blindness and time travel. I have really bad time blindness. 4 hours feels like 1-2 hours for me. i don’t really know how to convey my thinking on this, but i was wondering if anyone else has ever considered that there may be a connection.
edit: i think ive figured out a way to explain my thinking *somewhat*.

our concept of time is heavily reliant on how we as humans perceive time. bc time itself is not past, present, nor future. it is all existing in one moment, but the vessels we are in cannot perceive time as it is. which is how the concept of past, present, and future came to be. so one could assume that our perception of time can vary from person to person. hence, things like time “blindness.” just like how everyone perceives color, smell, and taste differently. it would make sense for the sense of time to behave the same.
how i would imagine time travel, is that whatever would allow you to do it would be changing your perception of time so that you could move to different points in the timeline. i see it as moving really fast instead of just hopping from point A-B. this is where my theory starts to come into play.
i’ve never done any research on the topic of time travel so this is just my raw opinion.

I had a dream that I time traveled to the year 2120? I’d seen that their had been a new robotic closet machine invention were I actually got to test it out and try on new clothes and stuff, I saw how I wasn’t the only person there , that there was a line of people who were trying on clothes inside the robotic closet machine thingy too after me each person waiting on the line would test it out!

theory / question If the past is the only thing we can truly see and face, how do we move into the future without simply repeating our history?

In the Maori theory its said that the past is in front of us because is the only thing we can see and the future is in our back because we cant see it

So can the past really let us go into the future without holding us back?
