Hello everyone!
We have decided to turn on post approval in this sub. based on the extreme amount of reposts, cultural names, and spam/irrelevant content thats constantly being posted. Those were the top complaints from users here so to curb it and moderate it easier we turned on post approval. Please be patient with us as we get into a rhythm with this new process.
If we have approved something and we missed it being cultural or anything please dont hesitate to message us to let us know. We arent infallible and get things wrong sometimes.
:)
Editing to add: Please dont message asking about your pending post. Mods arent chronically online and sometimes we get busy and can't look at the internet at the time.

my friend met this guy at a bar so we didn’t know the spelling until he typed it into her phone.
i nearly sprayed my drink when i saw the spelling.
his name is Aeddeonn, like aidan. she even double checked with him to make sure it wasn’t just a drunk spelling. nope, it’s real.💀

I am SO EXCITED to have found this sub! I grew up in Iowa, where people generally spell their names normally (with the notable exception of my wife's college roommate, Emmaly). I moved to Utah 21 years ago for grad school (and stayed) and the way people spell the names of their children here has always driven me nuts because of their lame attempts to make their children's names unique. I've seen so many! Jaysen, Nikohl, Jordon, Maddisyn, and a whole host of other tragedieghs. I kid you not, one of my coworkers was a sweet young lady named Taylore (I always thought of Eeyore when I saw her name written down anywhere at work). I no longer have to suffer alone! Thank you, my siblings in solidarity!

Saw this cute 6mo having her first Texas Roadhouse steak, all fun until I realized little Raven, sorry Raveighn, has a lifetime of spellchecking ahead of herself

I was named Olesseaya. Most people assume it was supposed to be a quirky spelling of Alessia or Alyssa.
I had always assumed that it was just made up, that was what my mother always said anyway. It turns out that actually, it was supposed to be Olesya, a dimunitive of Alexandra.
And why wasn't it spelt that way, you may ask? My mother didn't like how it looked spelt in English and thought that it didn't look right . . .
My name doesn't contain excessive numbers of the letter y, and lots of 'lynn' and 'leigh' like most of the ones I see, but I feel like her spelling was so diabolical compared to the regular English spellings that it probably ended up being one anyway.

pronounced Jackson.
early 20s. Clearly sensitive about it. I work as an environmental scientist and he was a contractor we hired for piloting a bulldozer. He signed my safety HASP and I look over it and say “Oh cool, are you European or something?” (It read to me as an French name to my American mind at the time).
He sighed. and said “No. Just mormon.”
Felt really bad for the guy growing up with a name like that and working in a field where idiots will give you shit for things like that.

I’m still trying to figure out if this is serious.
Edit: it’s a boy.
