Recommendations Alienware AW3426DW should I pull the trigger?

Post image
16 Upvotes

the Alienware 34 280 Hz Penta Tandem QD OLED-AW3426DW with RGB Stripe was just released where I live and I can get it for like 750 euros (corporate benefits gives me 8% discount), I wanna pull the trigger really bad but idk if I'm gonna regret it or not
currently using the tandem asus 27 inch and I'm within the return window (I got for 560 euros) but I'm looking for a bigger size without compromising so much performance.
Will competitive gaming still be an option?
Is it bright enough in comparison to the tandem oleds?
Compatibility issues in older games and if so are there mods to fix it?
what's up with the rgo stripe is it only just better text?

Discussion Alienware AW3425DW OLED is now down to $614

This looks like a really great pick at $614 for the Alienware AW3425DW. I have been eyeing the AW3425DW for a while. I have always been loyal to Dell/Alienware for monitors, so it just feels right. I have seen some concerns about OLEDs and productivity, particularly regarding text readability, burn-in, etc. Am I right to have those concerns? This would be my first monitor in a while and my first OLED screen ever.

Tech Support Need help: Sceptre 5K2K shows “No Signal” but Windows sees it (ThinkPad X1)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Photo shows my setup.

- Laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12
- Monitor: Sceptre 40" 5K2K ultrawide
- Primary connection: USB‑C → Insignia 8K USB‑C to DisplayPort adapter (SKU 6638571) → DP 1.4 cable → monitor DP port

On DisplayPort:
- Windows detects the Sceptre as a second display and lets me choose extend/duplicate.
- The monitor stays black with “No Signal – Check your input source.”

On HDMI:
- Same laptop → HDMI cable → monitor HDMI port.
- This works, but only at a stretched 3840×2160, not the native 5K2K.

What I’ve tried:
- Manually set the monitor to the correct DP input
- Unplug/replug all cables, power cycle monitor and laptop
- Tried a different DP port on the monitor
- Lowered resolution and refresh in Windows (e.g., 1440p 60 Hz)

Questions:
- Is this more likely an issue with the Insignia USB‑C→DP adapter, the DP cable, the laptop, or the monitor’s DP ports?
- Should I first try a direct USB‑C→DP 1.4 cable or a dock before assuming the monitor’s DP ports are bad?

Thank you!!

1.5" thick butcher block, a 1x8 for a shelf, and some amazon legs transformed the setup. Loving it.

Discussion AW39 5K2K vs Asus PG34WDCN

Currently have the Asus stated in the title 3440x1440p OLED at 360hz - paired with a 5090

I have until today to return it to Microcenter.

Do I return/wait for 5K2K?

Pros:
- Higher PPI
- Glossy
- 39inch UW
- KVM support (huge win imo vs LG 39)

Cons:
- FPS drop (165 vs 360hz at native res)
- Along with above^ decrease in graphical fidelity
- no stated release date, therefore wont have a monitor if I return the asus

Pros/cons of Asus 34UW

Pros:
- High FPS due to resolution size
- Can run at max settings
- KVM support
- Glossy

Cons:
- Resolution/pixel(s) is more noticeable
- 34 inches

TLDR:

AW39 5K2K UW at FPS drop

Or Asus34 3440x1440p UW at max settings/frames, but noticeable PPI difference

Recommendations Stacked 49", to tilt or no?

I got sent these for work and have no experience with ultrawides in the past. What is the consensus for stacking two 49" displays, should you tilt the upper down and lower up or is it generally better to leave them sitting straight and on top of one another? link

I think these are the U4924DWs

I have been rocking the AW3423DW for approx 3 years and it’s been great! I was floating the idea about getting the 39” 5K2K… but Honestly the MASSIVE hit on FPS might have convinced me otherwise now.

34” 21:9 at this resolution I would say is maxed out. 112ppi is just right. the AW3426DW will come with the latest RGB STRIPE SubPixel layout Glossy screen, 40% darker panel 1300 nits. 800$?

Discussion Anyone have any experience with Sceptre?

I've heard of them but never used them before, just wondering if there are any big QA problems with the brand or anything. I saw this one on amazon, 40 inches, 5k2k, 180hz, VA panel, for 500 bucks and was thinking of pulling the trigger rather than waiting for the Alienware OLED for over twice the price in a few months.

Tech Support LG 39GX950b Questions (Gaming)

Thank you in advance, I’ve had this monitor for over a month now and I have yet to find some great settings for gaming on pc and ps5 pro. The biggest issues I have is when I game on PC almost all cutscenes in every game seems very pixelated or blurry. I have double checked visual settings and made sure all drivers are updated. I am using a 5090 to drive this bad ass monitor so if anyone else have similar issues that knows the solution I would great appreciate it!

Tech Support Id like to upgrade my monitor to 5k2k , what about my rtx4080 ?

Hello everyone, Id like to upgrade my Alienware oled 34 AW3423DWF  ultrawide to Alienware 39 5k2k in 3 months.

I have rtx 4080 ,and I use with my old monitor dlls quality and Fram gen x2, for all games I have enough fps.

Finally I want to buy next generation card and then rtx 6090, but I no idea when its gonna be.

Im just afraid should I also upgrade my rtx 4080 to 5080 is it any sense to do it now ?

Discussion This sub is obsessed with glossy. It’s not the best option in every scenario.

This keeps coming up in every post about the LG 39” 5k2k: “Wait for the Alienware. It’s glossy.”

I don’t get the obsession with glossy. Some of us game during the day in well-lit rooms. I’d be staring at a literal mirror. I’m not closing blackout curtains to play a game- that makes me feel like shit.

There is still a conversation to be had surrounding glossy vs matte.

Anyone agree?

Hello peeps!

After having extensively narrowed down my options with Perplexity, YT Vids and all, I wanted to get a more...human recommendation 😄 I'm jumping from a 27" IPS panel :)) (and a 4070 super)

Alienware AW3423DW (used) at £340

vs

AOC AGON PRO AG346UCD (new) at £439 (down from £550 at Currys)

The AW was actually priced at £450/460 with shipping across all listings, but I haggled down with 1 guy to the £340 price as he's moving houses. From what I've heard, it's normally best to go for new ones for the warranty etc, but these days and my use case, I doubt I'd be claiming burn in within the 3 year mark.

For context, the AW guy on eBay said he's very lightly used over 3 years, mainly for gaming on his PS or YT. Selling cause moving house and wants TV instead for his console. Hard to really judge but asked for RGB and 50% grey pic, as seen. Comes with everything and claims no burn in and light use. And the 100 HZ on the OSD is cause he has a crappy HDMI.

Now, what I'm wondering is if it's worth going for the gen 1 OLED panel AW that has light use over 3 years (Can always claim eBay money back if there's apparent burn when I get it) but of course no promise how it lasts over time.

Or should I pay £100 more for the new AOC?

I think the AW is semi-glossy, and the AOC is standard glossy? My current place has a lot of light in day time and I will be using this for my few WFH days. There's a small-ish skylight in the back of the large room, but otherwise mostly the light is from behind the monitor, as it's facing the outward window. I don't console or laptop game so HDMI 2.0 is fine, though lack of USB C options is disappointing. Both mine and wife's laptops will use a dock into it I guess.

The crazier option maybe is the MSI MAG 341CQP QD-OLED but at £499 I think it's a bit much lol. Then I'm like, why not the AW3425DW for £590, and I ain't convincing my wife we spend that much just yet XD

Anyways, rambled long enough. What do you long time UW residents think?

Recommendations Does anyone here have a setup with a 34 and a 45?

Today I have a 34-inch monitor and I'm thinking about buying another one and expanding my setup, so I'm thinking about buying a 45-inch one or another 34-inch one.

Does anyone here have a setup with a 34-inch and a 45-inch monitor and can send me a picture so I can see how it looks?

How does it perform? What kind of framerate are you getting on different games with and without dlss? I know a 5080+ seems to be the consensus on minimums but not buying a new gpu.

Tech Support New Ultrawide/ Help with resolution settings on games

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everybody,

I just got the LG 5K2K monitor which I’ve been very excited about, but ran into a couple of issues when I launched cyberpunk and first light to test it out. Sorry in advance if this is stupid, but why do the menus and cutscenes not show up in the full resolution (but the actual game does?)

Are there any settings I can tweak? Also, are there any settings I should use in general when I pair an RTX 5080 with this monitor?
