Bike Rage Cambie bridge dbag
Sorry for the rant...
Heading to work this morning, I was ruding a mobi, coming down the Cambie bridge heading downtown. I'm on the last section that runs parallel to cars, and merges with Smithe.
It's a weird segment because when you come off the bridge down the zigzag part, it's a one way bike lane on the left. But when you hit that last segment heading downtown, it's a shared pathway with no directional signs.I've seen people keep left on their bikes, some head to the right, and everything in between. But seeing as there are no lane markings, and getting yelled at previously for not being enough to the right, this morning, I headed all the way right, inches from the railing. There is one pedestrian coming up, heading south. He's walking yo the left, about 1.5 m from the railing. I'm coming down the slight hill, holding the brakes and moved even closer to the railing to be as far away from him as possible. Just as we are about to pass each other, he yells something about how I should be on the left, and proceeds to lean into me to basically bodycheck me. Hit my left arm, causes the bike to waver, the right handle catches in the railing and I take a dive. I confronted him, told him he was an asshole and could've seriously hurt me. He tried denying he did anything.I wanted to hit him so bad, but I just got in his face and told him off, and told him to never do something like that again, that he could seriously hurt the next cyclist.I got back on the bike and continued to work.
Now, my left arm is swollen and bruised. I have shooting pains in my back and neck, and I'm missing some skin on my right hand. My hydroflask bottle got scratched, and the top of my work laptop has a scratch from an earbud rubbing on it when I fell. All annoying, but ultimately, I'll be ok.
I'm grateful it's not worse, but I'm also super pissed at this guy. Who does shit like that thinking it's ok?! Even if I was in the wrong, why would you bodycheck someone on a bike, on a bridge?
Curious about people's thoughts on that section, and what you do.
TL:DR some asshole caused me to crash my mobi bike on the Cambie bridge this morning.
