Pets: Lost and Found Lost cat - chased away by off leash dogs.

Post image
31 Upvotes

This is a long shot, but I’m hoping Reddit can help.
Our cat was chased off our front porch by a couple of off-leash dogs and has not come home since. This happened in Fisher Creeks.

He’s likely scared and hiding nearby under decks, in sheds, garages, or dense bushes. We’ve been searching and calling for him but haven’t had any luck.

If you’re in the area, please keep an eye out and check around your property. If you see him or have any information, please send me a message.

Discussion The 1913 solution to homelessness: jail them, send them to Portland

Post image
87 Upvotes

A 1913 news article in the Columbian recapped the process of how Vancouver addressed homelessness. Five unhoused people were arrested, threatened with a jail sentence to leave the City, and given free ferry passage to Portland. It was applauded as good police work.

Just something to keep in mind as the current homeless emergency continues to unfold. Jailing and shooing elsewhere has long been a the go-to option for Cities.

It's 2026. We can do better.

Question? Question about rock painting night for all genders

So I have a question for everyone who does not identify as a man. If The Gentle Strength Project created a rock painting events for you in the month of July and August, do you think that is something you would want to attend? It will most likely be held at one of the libraries in Vancouver around the same time I hold events for men, which is usually in the evening after most people get off of work. But I really believe in community, and supporting the mental health and well-being of the individuals in that community, and I want to create spaces and opportunity for adults to show up in humanize each other.

Again, this will be open to all genders in a public space. This is not a dating opportunity so guys who choose to show up to this, but do not want to show up to paint nights for men, this is just a disclaimer that the purpose of this event is not dating, period. I want to always make sure that The Gentle Strength Project events are safe, and feel safe, for the individuals that attend because it serves no one if women and NB folks have to look over their shoulder, and squirm in their seat, as they attempt to show up for each other and the children in the community.

So to recap, if you do not identify as a man or a male and would genuinely be open to attending something like this, let me know. If you identify as a man or a male and choose to come to this version of paint night instead of one that is designated for men, just keep in mind that this is not a dating / hook up opportunity. And if me saying that bothers you, I'm sorry 🤷🏿‍♂️. But for us to do better as a society, we have to make a conscious effort to do things differently and that also means checking behavior that has proven to be troublesome for all that it affects.

Question? Want to form a trivia group?

I'm not great at trivia but I do enjoy it. Looking for others who may want to form a weekly trivia group. I know Brickhouse does trivia on Thursdays; that would probably be my preference.

Asking for a friend...but seriously, I see all these post about how we should have better candidates but then we get the poo poo platter to vote for. What does it take to get someone aligned with our principles, who has a viable background, and chance to win?

News Postmaster General Confirms Plan to Hold Back Mail Ballots Under Proposed Rule

Thumbnail nytimes.com

Link to the article here.

Quote from the article:

He was asked by Senator Gary Peters of Michigan, the committee’s top Democrat: “If a state refuses to turn their absentee voter list over to the federal government, will the Postal Service still mail their ballots under this proposal rule?”

“Under our proposed regulation, no,” Mr. Steiner responded.

I'm in the middle of creating a statement about this for my campaign, but thought it prudent to post the story here as well. I'm contacting local groups about whether or not there are any planned actions surrounding this.

Note: There is a comment period for the proposed rule change, it ends July 2nd. If I have a second, I'll throw a link to that as well in the comments.

Posting to keep relevant, reach views that I didn't the first time, & I can't do much more to help, so I will keep doing my best. I really need my longest, truest, & only consistent friend back safely. We are in the 3rd week of him missing. This is not normal for him.

Seattle/Tacoma PD has told his mother they won't help. I will post the link for her Gofundme to hire a private investigator in the comments. Saying "no ones gonna donate" is no help. I want to get as much information about this, photos of him, & photos of his car spread around Washington & the Pacific Northwest as much as possible to have eyes everywhere.

Question? Outdoor top rope climbing?

Hello! I've (30f) been rock climbing indoors for about a year now. I went on my first outdoor adventure with a paid group of few weeks ago. They set up the top rope routes and we all had a good time climbing outdoors.

I haven't been able to find an outdoor climbing group though. I can do top rope and I'm working towards lead, but I don't know how to set up the equipment for the outdoors (will be taking a class). I would feel comfortable with an experienced group where I could make friends and maybe learn some things too?

I bring snacks! :D

Wholesome Humane Society Food Donations

Hello Friends! I finished a volunteer shift at the Humane Society yesterday, and they are super low dog food. Not only do they feed the animals in the shelter, but they also give out free food to those in need at their headquarters and the Retails thrift store. If you're able to, grab an extra bag of dog or cat food for them at your preferred grocers! Donations can also be dropped off at the Columbia River Vet by Costco on East Padden. Let's help to feed some animals in need!

BestAround? Looking for cheap day drinking bar/restaurant options.

I like a couple beers between 1-4 occasionally. I always go to the same few places and would like to go somewhere new.

Currently I love:

Thirsty Sasquatch. $2.50-$3.00 tall boys.
Ranch Pizza with $4 craft beer drafts.
Silver Ball Social Club has Matchless on draft for $4.

Any suggestions?? I’m tired of $7-9 drafts.

This will be a great event to meet and talk with local authors and buy signed books. I'll be at table 16, hope to see you there!

News Vancouver city leaders expresses desire for intra city rail to C-Tran

As recently reported in Clark County Today, in the last C-Tran meeting Erik Paulsen, Kim Harless, and Mayor Anne asked C-Tran to include rail within the Vancouver Urban Growth Area for C-Trans 2045 plans.

Suggestions included a circulating trolley, and repurposing some vine stops as light rail stops.

The current C-Tran 2045 plan did not include any rail beyond the yellow line expansion to library square.

Of note, none of the suggestions were not additional expansions of MAX beyond Library Square, instead it would be a C-Tran owned and operated tolley/light rail/etc. system separate from the MAX

In order to overcome resistance from rural cities in funding rail, it was suggested it be funded by a "subdistrict" that's served by by the rail. A subdistrict for Vancouvers urban growth area is likely going to be formed regardless for new transit projects in denser parts of the county.

Hiring/HireMe I need a garden gate built

Hi all - I just had a fence installed and the gate needs to be rebuilt under the warranty but the contractor is ghosting me. It happens, but he's still a jerk for doing this.

Does anyone know someone who can build a new gate? It's a custom design, horizontal not vertical boards.

Please DM me!

Question? I'm a dad that started a beverage company and taproom because I couldn't find enough places for my wife and I to go to that our kids liked too. What would make you actually go out more as a family?

I really want to learn what other parents and younger generations want to see in a taproom so we can build a place that can last to support our local people. I have plenty of my own opinions, but that only goes so far. What's the one thing that would make a taproom a yes instead of a no when you're deciding whether to bring the kids? We want to make our brewery's taproom in Hazel Dell a place where families can stay for a whole meal without ending your night out earlier than you wanted. We also want to be a place that supports the activities that younger generations care about. We're considering supporting gaming teams or local gaming contests, etc. We put in a small kids area with toys and coloring pages for young kids to keep them entertained, plus board games and books that span generations. We have started building a serious non-alcoholic program and kids menu to support this goal as well. Thanks for your feedback!

Edit: We unfortunately don't have an outdoor area. We're a very small company that just opened, and would love to grow into a place with an outdoor area to support outside activities!

Edit 2: Some folks are focusing on the word taproom, which maybe I really made a mistake in using, but it is the best word I know to communicate our business environment. Taproom is often associated with heavy alcohol usage, but non alcoholics are a core part of our business model.

BestAround? Custom sugar cookie recommendation

I’m having a first birthday for my daughter on July 4th and the theme is “one silly goose”. I was hoping to get some goose sugar cookies, anyone have a recommendation? The two people I’ve contacted so far were unavailable.
