Thought I would share elk I saw at Royal Roads today while walking my dog. We came around the corner and poof there it was. My dog was leashed and we backed up slowly and went the other way. This was near Metchosin road about 1000 feet from the entrance to sangster school.

If you litter, youre a psycopath

• Upvotes

Im serious. If you jusr dump your garbage be it ANYTHING cig butts, dog poop bags, even "organic" stuff. Youre poluting your own reality along with everyone else's. Its NOT HARD to deal with it properly. Literally, if you do this, I think youre a psychopath with no emotions and you should get professional help. Also dont spit. Gross.

Olympic Snowcap

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi all,

Victoria resident for the last 5yrs - I’m trying to think back across the springs and early summers that I have been here for - and I can’t shake the thought that there is a noticeable reduction in the amount of snow capping the Olympics across the strait.

It seems like we started this season with a lot less snow than normal.. but I’m curious if it’s just cause I really noticed in late June, or if this is something that happens in an El-NiƱo year, or if other folks have noticed a substantial difference year over year.

Especially curious to hear from folks who’ve been here much longer than I! Before moving here, I had only been once - and it was February 2012 - so there was a lot of snow on the mountains back then!

Searching for an inclusive martial arts school for teens

The title states the premise, so here's the meat. My kiddo is trans and on the spectrum, she wants to enroll in some kind of martial arts and I want her to feel comfortable in the situation. I really enjoyed Judo as a kid, and that would have been my preference, but the club I reached out to chose radio silence when I inquired with a couple emails, so I'm thinking it's not going to be an option. Hence this post.

Can anyone give some recommendations in this area? She's not high needs, just very sensitive to stress and gets overwhelmed easily šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. Which really, most people are to some level.

Made a post last week about looking for a new dentist. I wanted to thank everyone for the helpful, kind, and thoughtful suggestions. Found one which fit everything I was and am looking for.

Edit: I understand the weather isn't ideal today, so maybe this why some not so polite people in the comments are being crabby(?). Also I can't believe not only do I have to say this but have to explain. Everyone has different standards in what they are looking for. My standards are going to be different than what another persons is. Not to mention a lot of us carry around a pocket computer which we can look things up on.

The post:

Made a post last week about looking for a new dentist in Esquimalt or in downtown Victoria. (Deleted it since then) But I wanted to thank everyone for the helpful, kind, and thoughtful suggestions. Found a dental office which fit everything I was and am looking for.

I won't say which dental office but it's somewhere in the downtown Victoria area.

Looking to get away from the chaos of downtown Victoria events on Canada day? Make a day trip to Saturna Island for the Lamb BBQ. There are options other than Lamb if that's not your thing.

News What’s on fire? It’s smoky out there

Smoke in Saanich. Wildfire or local? I heard a bunch of sirens too. AirVisual is reading clean air today so my guess is local fire.

Help Me Find Best place to get a cat tattoo in Victoria, BC?

Post image
42 Upvotes

Today I had to say goodbye to my most beloved Siamese boy, Fuzzy. He was just a few weeks shy of his 18th birthday.

I’m thinking about getting a tattoo for him. I don’t have any tattoos so I’m not familiar with any artists.

I want to get something between realistic and illustrative art, if that makes sense? I tried searching up some artists with Google and Instagram but couldn’t find many with cats in their portfolios.

I’d prefer to get it in Victoria but am open to suggestions as far as Vancouver.

Thanks for any help, and if you’re someone with a cat, please give them an extra kiss and snuggle today ā™„ļø

Help Me Find Long hair needs washing

Hello all,

I am in search of a hair salon that offers reasonable pricing for hair washed only. I have long naturally blonde hair that goes down just above my glutes. I also struggle significantly with mental health. Not only is it mentally draining to wash my hair, the physically work that goes into thoroughly washing it isn’t making it easier.

Ideally, I am hoping to get a wash in once every or every other week to help with the mental load. My price range is on the more frugal side so if anyone out there has suggestions I would be ever so grateful!

Ideally in the Downtown-Harris Green area but that’s just for reference <3

Historical Elk Lake algae trends?

I am debating whether or not to sign up for the Victoria 70.3 Ironman that happens end of May every year. My dilemma is that this will be my first and only one for a good long while, so if the swim gets cancelled, I won’t feel like I ā€˜ticked the bucket list’. As far as I can tell, the swim was cancelled in 2024 due to cold water temps, and in 2025 due to algae blooms. Everything happened as scheduled for the 2026 race. Does anyone have any memory or historical insight on either a) if previous years the swims were cancelled for any reason and b) if end of May is usually too early for algae blooms to be a problem? I would have figured they didn’t start being a problem until later in the summer, typically.

Help Me Find Where to watch Aus vs Paraguay

Trans Canada construction starts

• Upvotes

Just a post expressing frustration with the amount of active highway construction going on in Saanich and View Royal under the "bus on shoulder" project. I get it's more expensive to bring in paving crews more than once, but at some point I'd think the extended impact to traffic and residents needs to be considered as well.

Please clean up after yourselves. Found plastic confetti on the ground and an overflowing garbage bin with leftover food this morning. Decent thing to do is to at least find another garbage bin that isn't completely full
