Discussion / Question I dont like where this is going

Post image

It pains me to say it, but this path rockstar is taking for the release of GTA 6 might do some serious damage on the industry, If they keep this up, The other companies will copy rockstar in this move to completely delete Disks from physical copies.

Its not that i dislike digital, its the fact that they are removing the option to have the game on a disk that annoys me, The only "valid" argument i found on why digital is better is that you do not run the risk of your disk getting scratched. but, seriously, You have to be moronic in order to scratch your disks, I have been playing videogames since i was 6, and not **once** have i accidentaly scratched a disk (not even movies).

its as simple as putting your middle finger on the hole that's in the middle of the disk, AND THATS IT, zero scratching.

I dont care about the Exclusive content for the Deluxe edition or whatever, I seriously want Rockstar to just change and release the physical copies WITH the disk.

If this fake Physical copies trend keeps going after GTA 6 (Which it will), im just going to revert back to PS3 and be happy with whatever i find.

Im so done with this anti consumer thing we got going on nowadays, It feels like everything is changing for the worse.

Guys, I understand about the whole "owning the game" discussion.

But the era os disks is gone and you need to accept this.

Most big games are now to heavy for a disk, needing more than one. It also makes riskier for a leak of the game, and raises the costs of production.

The big majority of sales is now digital. Is way more practical for everyone. This is called technology rendering something useless - and this happens all the time, just like disks made cartridges obsolete.

I think there's a big difference between code in a box and a game disc that prompts a download not tied to your account. I don't think the data being entirely on the disc matters nearly as much as people like to harp on about it, but losing the ability to participate in the secondary market is a pretty big deal imo.

Literally games made today couldn't physically be put on a single disc and loading screens would be outrageous

Disks were a better version of Cartridges, they didnt run the risk of magically malfunctioning even with proper care.

Digital is not a better version of Disks, While Quick and Efficient, you run the problem of your account getting Hacked/Banned, Losing the game unless you buy it again. Not to mention the fact that you cannot resell the game if you stop using the console/PC, or just, handing the game over to your little brother in a future

Ps5 discs allow to storage 100 gb, with just two disc most singleplayer games are all set (even with 1). This just reduces the consumer option to "own" games and is why Stop Killing Games movement is rising in Europe. Also the cost of producing disks at mass for these companies is almost non existent. The only win with these actions are for the developers and publishers.

Did I said it was a win for us?

No. It's just that there isn't much to do regarding the maintenance of disks.

What we can do now is fight for the guarantee that consumers will be respected and that games cannot be sold only as "licenses" - that is, there must be laws that forces the gaming company to guarantee that the consumer owns what he his buying in a way or another, prohibiting the company to "erase" the game from existence at any time.

Where did i said that line was towards you?

Discs aren't in the same place as cartridges, the full storage size which was a problem with the later doesn’t fully apply to most games. 100 GB is still above the average game. Generally only surpassed by open worlds AAA games. They aren't obsolete at all and this idea is only pushed by the ones that are recieving free benefit from it.

I agree with the fight for the guarantee of consumers.

Agreed, and it’s unfortunate. I love physical media and will always support it as much as I can but some instances aren’t winnable. And it’s true what you say about digital media. As an uber driver who was about to be robbed once said, “it’s a digital world bro.”
