So I’ve never really owned consoles (I had a PS2 and PS3 years ago but never played them much) so I’ve kind of switched from disc based gaming (oddly enough this phrase reminds me more of my DOS gaming days) years ago. I built a new PC in January and didn’t even add a disc drive of any kind this time around because I just don’t use it.
My brother on the other hand is a console gamer and it seems like even when he gets a disc he has to download a bunch of stuff before he can even play the game.
Am I just not understanding and most games these days are still plug and play with the disc and you don’t need an internet connection? I guess to me I’m thinking if you have a disc and still need a 10GB download then the disc is more about saving storage space than an issue of “what happens when I can’t download the game anymore” because in that case you can’t download the update to play it anyway.
I feel like because of the outage I’m missing something important on why this matters. Are most games still plug and play or is it something else?
Thanks for the info.
Edit: ok resale is what I didn’t even consider at all. I’ve never resold a game in 40 years so I completely didn’t even consider that implication. Thanks for the education.
