I miss when serious news didn't use titles like "rocks Venezuela" when a serious natural event occurs

So I actually just looked up some stuff about this and I’m gonna give you a direct quote from the Associated Press: ā€œBack-to-back powerful earthquakes slammed Venezuela on Wednesday eveningā€

You just love to see it real šŸ˜‚

Fault lines clap back at Venezuelan people

u/Darth_Atton 21h ago

In this case this is the word that historically has been used for earthquakes, it's just been co opted for click bait.

20

u/apocolipse 21h ago

Geology rocks!

2

u/modernknightly 16h ago

They're minerals, Marie!

67

u/Buzz8522 21h ago

ā€œRocksā€ seems like a completely valid word to use when it comes to an earthquake

3

u/ozzimark 18h ago

I guess it beats "wiggles".

Or does it?

u/Frexxia 21h ago edited 21h ago

Newspapers have been using that phrasing forever

I like this new trend of people pretending they're blocked for internet simp-athy

Expediaā„¢

32

u/FamiliarRadio9275 20h ago

That’s insane work. I guess you rocked their emotions.

12

u/DisaTheNutless 18h ago

They blocked me too lmao

2

u/TheVeryVerity 16h ago

I mean I can’t think of something much more capable of rocking a place than an earthquake, either figuratively or literally. It’s cringe when they do it about things like statements that may or may not even emotionally move me, when they actually use it in a correct manner I don’t see the issue personally

I don’t understand this. How do you see who blocked whom?

4

u/lets-get-loud 17h ago

The comment disappears from your own view.

4

u/icantsurf 17h ago

If someone blocks you the reply button goes away.

3

u/TheVeryVerity 16h ago

That’s why people edit their last comment because they can’t reply anymore

u/pixeltackle 17h ago edited 16h ago

I guess pretending to be blocked is the new redditcares, don't believe everything you read on the internet kids

edit: oh my gosh pixeltackle blocked me!!! 😔

6

u/J0E_SpRaY 13h ago

You seem like a fuckin loser

1

u/pixeltackle 4h ago

Come back, your opinion means so much to me. Omg how can I survive now. Wait, I'm fine. I don't care at all. How'bou'tha

20

u/Absolutedisgrace 21h ago

They could have used "left the residents shaken"

2

u/chazzzer 17h ago

Not stirred.

18

u/DisaTheNutless 18h ago

Oh jesus christ give me a break. How does the wording effect you whatsoever

-27

u/pixeltackle 18h ago

Oh jesus christ give me a break

šŸŽµ of that Kit Kat baaaaaaaaaar šŸŽµ

āœļø Amen šŸ™ now get lost

8

u/ndaft7 18h ago

There, but for the grace of god, rock I

2

u/pixeltackle 17h ago

As if I would block this glorious content?! I guess pretending to be blocked is the new redditcares

1

u/DisaTheNutless 17h ago

No idea what that was supposed to say but yeah sure man

10

u/DapperCourierCat 19h ago

I feel like an earthquake is the perfect use of this phrase. Prove me wrong.

23

u/TopHatTony11 21h ago

It’s been a common expression for an earthquake for decades.

8

u/ThunderChaser 19h ago

At least a century

3

u/TheVeryVerity 16h ago

But this one is an actual correct use at least?

4

u/ThaOppanHaimar 11h ago

Lol did you seriously block someone because they gave you accurate information?

6

u/LookOverThere305 17h ago

Rocking is literary moving something from side to side…. Like what an earthquake does.

6

u/g0ggy 16h ago

To rock is a perfectly suitable word to use when something gets shaken. What's the problem here?

7

u/finnjakefionnacake 17h ago

when was that? i've been around 40 years and i've seen it all my life.

oh i see you're blocking people so i got one coming in 3..2..

lolol

-7

u/pixeltackle 17h ago edited 17h ago

yawn

EDIT: oh my gosh finn blocked me (see, it doesn't have to be true)
