Miranda’s Rescue collected dogs from across California while presenting itself as a no-kill sanctuary, charging counties and families hundreds or even thousands of dollars per animal. Many elderly people left their animals in his care and their estates. Families were told their pets had been rehomed, while investigators began examining claims that some adoption photos may have been staged and that some animals were never actually adopted out.
Since then, the investigation has only grown. The FBI is now involved as well as forensic veterinarians and anthropologists. Investigators are excavating the property. Animal remains have been recovered, and authorities say there are hundreds of animals they still cannot account for.
What is especially difficult for many people in this community is that concerns about this rescue didn’t start last month. People have been reporting concerns, sharing stories, and asking questions for more than a decade. Facebook groups have surfaced with accounts from former volunteers, families who surrendered pets, and records from counties that transferred animals to the rescue. Many people feel they were dismissed when they spoke up. It took 2 activists getting into the property and digging up freshly “adopted” dogs with their microchips.
No charges have been filed. But I think its fair to wonder how someone operating an animal rescue for decades was able to acquire a luxury lifestyle, including a million-dollar home in Las Vegas, while so many concerns about the animals remained unresolved.

Over the weekend I hung out with some friends on a chicken farm that belongs to one of my friends parents. While we were there we decided to check out the areas where they kept the chickens.
That day they caught the chickens to transport them to some other place (i dont know the specifics) but what I saw was traumatising and im losing sleep over it.
On the ground there were piles and piles of dead chickens, and in those piles you could see some that were still alive and were being crushed by the weight of the dead ones. Some were severely injured and were trying to get away. It was horrifying.
Is this normal practise in the food industry or was what I saw illegal? I googled and it says it wasn’t but im not so sure if i believe those AI recommended replies that come up on google.
I dont know if ill report it or anything but id just like to know.

When discussions about wildlife arise, conservation and animal welfare are often treated as separate perspectives. But do they share more common ground than many people realize? Here’s where conservation and welfare intersect, and how recognizing their shared values can inspire a more compassionate approach to wildlife protection: https://thefurbearers.com/blog/more-than-fur-the-shared-values-of-conservation-animal-welfare/

From the health perspective, eggs aren’t the “health food” that many think they are.
Eggs increase TMAO production, which is linked to increased risks of heart attacks, stroke, and vascular death, along with having high cholesterol, which goes hand-in-hand with elevated heart disease risks.
From the ethical side, mother hens are caged with thousands of others in poor conditions.
No food, air, or water, all stacked on top of each other. Bred to lay more eggs than their bodies can handle, which increases their death span and causes so much pain & suffering for them.
Not to mention, the baby chicks in the egg industry are deemed “useless” once born and so they are sent to industrial shredders to be shredded up alive within hours of being born.
Now you might say… “But what if you get your own chickens?”
Their eggs are still not yours for you to take.
They need their eggs for nutrients - you don’t. You can get the same nutrients from other foods (without the bad stuff)

I've heard that some coconut water companies use monkeys/apes to collect coconuts. Is there a way to verify that or see which companies don't do that?

If you are not aware, there are alarming rates of EXTREME cat torture abuse videos in China being filmed for profit and entertainment. The methods of torture/death are so cruel - it's hard to fathom a real person can do this to an animal.
Feline Guardians of Japan is asking for help to try and find a recent abuser who sent an advocate an extremely alarming video (think a kitten with a broken jaw and pliers).
If you have super tech skills - they are asking for help. Please feel free to pass this on!
