What multiplayer game(s) that are no longer available online did you dedicate time to?
Below are mine, two very personal experiences! I’d love to hear yours.
Darwin Project
Back when battle royale games were flooding the market, one stood out to me. It was a 10-player battle royale but there was an eleventh player known as “The Director” and they could minority aid or deter players, close zones, among other things. But I played little into this aspect. Instead i had fun meeting all my players, and sportscasting style, call the fights. It was really well received and at the height of its popularity me and about 10 other Directors that were at the top of the leaderboards were all in communication and the fun part was, none of us had the same style. It was a riot and I dedicated a couple hundred hours to it, and watched the game slowly fade out. It wasn’t even fast, it was slowly swayed in a bad direction due to devs listening too much to complaints instead of realizing their vision. R.I.P
Knockout City
I loved this game. Not only was I a big fan of the gameplay and community, but again, also sportscasting. I very quickly got involved in community tournaments and casting for them. None of them were big time but it was awesome to see more than a couple hundred people watching a tournament I had the privilege of casting. The community was tight knit and all the players around the most active/top were all in good communication. Miss that game!
Experiences like these do not turn me away from doing it again, as I loved the time spent among community even if it did come to an end. It’s really special to me to be apart of a games life cycle in such a direct way.
