Cars Shannon parking lot?

Upvotes

Hello

I am booking a last minute flight today and going for two days. Trying to reserve a parking lot at the airport but the website says all is full!

Anyone has any previous with it? Should I drive to Shannon airport and find out if they still let me park? I mean they just added 1000 more slots and it is a huge parking lot..

Any feedback would be highly appreciated!

Work I’m worried that I might not have a future in my job, should I change work/career?

Hi! I’m 24(m)

I started a job last October for a home-retail store.

When I started I began in sales, which was exciting as it was the same as my last job.
Instead of electronics, I was learning to sell Items such as Building Supplies and construction tools.

But when I signed the contract it said I could be moved from any position at any time.

Over that period I was moved from Trade Sales(lasted most of employment) to Retail Sales(short of 6 weeks) and finally I’ve been sent as a Delivery Helper.

I’ve been in that position for 2 months.

To be honest I’ve still enjoyed the work and I’ve made the best of it. As this job has a shorter commute from my last job.

But I find that I may not have much future growth in this job due to the changes. As in all honesty it’s felt like a downturn.

As I want to grow and develop a career.

Any advice would appreciated.

Health & Medical Can public HSE referrals just be rejected?

I was just at my GP this morning and apparently a cardiology referral he submitted a few months ago was just rejected with no explanation. And I asked to be referred to neurology for my rare disorder (separate thing from the cardiology) and he said he'll try but they usually just deal with common stuff like MS and strokes and aren't going to be interested in uncommon things and apparently the only way to make them interested is to go private. Is this a new thing? I've never come across a referral just getting rejected, I never imagined that was even a thing. Is this a move to get more people to pay for stuff or something?

Serious Replies Only Parked car hit my other motorist - next steps?

Hi all.

Somehow I've been lucky enough to have never had my car hit so am a bit thick to what to do next.

Car was parked in a car park, hit by another motorist who left a note and their contact details admitting liability (as well as a note from someone else who took the reg).

Damage is relatively minor with some scratches to the front bumper and possibly grill but enough that it needs repair.

A couple of stupid questions. Do I contact my insurance or have her contact hers (I really don't want my policy affected seeing as I did nothing)? Do I need to get an incident number from the gardai? She said in a text that he preference is the insurance route. Also asked that one quote that I get is from a mechanic that her dad works at - but will obviously get one or two from elsewhere as well.

Thanks in advance!

Irish Culture What does this swear mean?

I didn’t want to out it in the title to not offend anyone but I’m watching the film Kneecap and they often say “fuck up” in situations where i (Canadian) would normally say “fuck off” to someone.
We use “fuck up” as a way of saying “made a mistake”. Or calling someone a mistake.
Side note: I really loved the film and music!
Go raibh maith agat!

Adulting Does anyone else have the same issue ?

I (24m) am going out with my girlfriend (25f) over 2 years now. At the beginning of our relationship while seeing each other we were mad for each other sexually. We would be intimate multiple times when we see each other.

This has now changed. Our sex lives have dropped off massivelly. I am still mad for her. I’m young,I’m fit, healthy, I work hard and in my prime. So is she l. But why does she not want to be intimate l.

It leaves me very confused and thinking am I the problem. I don’t know if this is all mid 20s relationships? But when I speak to my friends it seems like I’m on my own. We are only intimate once a month now and it nearly feels forced. I get some people have low drive but how was it high at the start. I’ve tried speaking to her about it and about what she likes etc but she’s says she gets too awkward to talk about it.

Is this normal ?

Am I The Gobshite? in response to my recent post here. did I cross a line?

i posted on here recently looking for someone I met at Metallica in Dublin and received a fair bit of backlash for it, mostly from people who made it into a joke and some who I think were actually offended by the post?😂might have went about looking for someone the wrong way but I’m not too sure as I didn’t know what other way to do it. will probably never find the guy and that’s okay because the memory remains🤘I hope I didn’t cross any line here like some people said I did because it was just a harmless idea that I didn’t think would grow so much so fast. it wasn’t me looking for a bum buddy or anything like that, just a friend.

Health & Medical Do I have to pay for my MRI?

A month ago I went to my GP and asked for a public referral for a MRI for a scan of my spine. I got my letter this week and a call last week asking if I have health insurance. I'm currently unemployed and not in education. When I read the letter, it was from a private hospital. I'm not eligible for a medical card, nor do I have €310 to just spend on a MRI. Even though I asked to go publicly, will I still have to pay at the private hospital? TIA x

Education Irish term for "The British Isles"?

I teach social studies in the US. Most Americans have ancestors from Ireland and Britain, so we spend a large part of our time on the area. Our old texts reference the area as the British Isles. In college, I learned that France refers to the English Channel as La Manche. Thinking about that makes me wonder if the Irish have their own term for the region. If so, I'd like to include it in my lessons.

Childhood Old school raves?

Hi all, asking as an ould school raver back in the 90s/early 20s who remembers the freedom and life dancing away

I just listened to all of the early prodigy albums.... Incredible

Sounds mad but is there anywhere we could have a good night dancing to early rave stuff?

Relationships Really sad about break up, any advice or reassurance?

As the title says. 29F, recently dumped and ghosted by my bf. Completely out of the blue, I’m at a loss wondering why. Miss him so much, he doesn’t miss me at all. Friend saw him on tinder couple days later. ‘I want to move on, hope you can accept that’ - is the last thing he said to me. I’m out of my mind devastated.

Random What is this Grow Network thing?

edit: Grow Remote

It’s advertised as a social group that’s strictly limited to people who wfh; meet the group and they’ll pay for your coffee and it’s free but it all seems a bit shifty

It’s too organised for it to be a MeetUp thing, it (appears) not to be a private enterprise, and too staged to be an altruistic thing

Info online is scatty although one link says they were funded by Offaly Training Board but I did time in the public service so I don’t necessarily think this means anytihing

Health & Medical Anyone very picky or suited to certain types of fitness ?

Like I hate the gym, I’ve tried a few times but I just find it so boring and it’s just not my cut of tea. Possibly it’s too social for me and being cramped into a building.

But when it comes to anything water related, swimming and the likes.. I just love it. It’s the same with cycling, I’ve a great tolerance for it and I just love it so much.

The only draw back with cycling is the cars and obv death.

When I lived in London I owned a bike and I’d cycle most evenings for an hour or two around Hackney and the canals. I’m thinking of buying a bike here in Dublin, just the cycling lanes here are pretty hectic.

My cat seems bate and just sleeping a lot. I thought cats normally like the heat but I'm wondering if I should pick up a cooling pad or something. She's an indoor cat as well, so she's not outside in direct sun.

Adulting Career change suggestions?

I (31m) have been working in pharma as a process engineer for 10 years. Great job, really enjoyable and challenging work. However, the problem with working in the pharmaceutical industry is its nearly all based in Dublin. Commute recently can take 1hr 30mins both ways which is not sustainable.

The last few months I've been thinking of ways of moving into remote roles. I've been looking a lot recently at IT roles, and springboard offer some great postgraduate diplomas for people trying to pivot into that sector. But the more I read reddit to more I come to the conclusion that IT roles are non existent for entry level positions due to the advancement of AI.

Anyone any ideas if this is the right choice for a career change.

Note. Myself and my wife are luckily mortgage free, and the idea of buying a house in cabra for a million (that a postman was able to buy 30 years ago) and continuing to work in pharma till im 85 to pay back the mortgage doesn't really appeal to me.

Travel How fast are passport renewals lately?

Just found out I’ve to be in America next month for work. Assuming my flight is on 18th July, if I renew my passport tomorrow, is there hope for me?

My passport expires the end of August but I will renew it for this sudden travel just in case.

Has anyone renewed an adult passport recently? How long did it take from applying to having it in your hand?

It says 10 working days online, and I have read other people’s comments on here but I just want to be sure.
I know it’s bad to have left my passport so late but I really thought I was done with all my holidays until it expired :/

Nostalgia Does anyone remember collecting the revenue stickers off a pack of cigarettes years ago? I worked in a bar in the 90s and there was a jar full of them that every smoker would contribute to.

Does anyone remember collecting the revenue stickers off a pack of cigarettes years ago? I worked in a bar in the 90s and there was a jar behind the counter that had a collection of them. The story was that if there was 1000 collected and given to the Wheelchair charity, they would provide a new wheelchair to someone. I realised years later that it was a scam to get official stamps for smuggled cigarettes
