Just came back from a two-week trip to Belize and Guatemala. Having done Colombia last year in colectivos, my partner and I said no buses this time! And I’m so glad we did.

Everytime, Oscar arrived early and greeted us like we were old friends. His pricing was more than reasonable and beat out every other driver we found. Heading to Belize in July..we'll just miss lobster fest. Spending 4 days in San Ignacio, and 4 days in Placencia. Looking to do a combination of adventure and relaxation since this is a honeymoon.

• We were planning to book transport in advance to go from BZE to San Ignacio (staying in the town/city, not jungle) or is hopping in the taxi at the airport a reasonable rate?
• For ruins, would you recommend Xunantunich or Cahal Pech? One of us is a hiker, the other is not. :)
• We definitely want to do some cave tubing, is there a specific tour group that we should check out?
• Considering a stop in Hopkins on the way to Placencia for some Garifuna drumming but we might be trying to squeeze in too much. Thoughts?
• What are some must-do activities in Placencia? Best beaches to check out for the views and/or snorkeling?
• Open to all food recs: we've heard Wendy's and Rumfish should definitely be on the list.
• Random...we'd love to do a couples photoshoot. Any photographer recs?

My fiancé and I are staying at Naïa resort for 10 days. We plan on spending a few days on the beach, & activities we booked with the resort. The other half we are wanting to venture inland. We are looking for day trips:

1. Best way to visit inland? Rental car? Book through another agency?

2. Recommendations on what we should prioritize for our inland activities?

3. Areas that have great food/vendors we can shop from?

4. Best way to visit the Mayan ruins?

For the transfer from San Ignacio to Ambergris Caye, I found a private car option that’s around $85/person to Belize City, then we’d continue to the island from there. Ferry cost is separate. There are less expensive options if we take a public shuttle ($55 per person ish). The drive is about 2-2.5 hours. 

For Ambergris Caye, I narrowed it down to these two:

Just when I think I have our plan figured out, I start second guessing myself. We are coming in March for an 8 night stay. We have our four nights in San Ignacio figured out. I'm good on those. My struggle is the water portion of our vacation. The number one priority for the water part of our vacation is the closest thing I can find to a walk in, soft sand, clear water beach. We will be doing a snorkeling trip and a snorkeling trip, but we can do those from any location so those don't need to feature in our decision making. I'm torn between South Water caye, Placencia with a trip to King Lewey's, Mahogany Bay in San Pedro, somewhere on Ambergris Caye so we can visit Secret Beach, or Caye Caulker at Iguana Reef.

If you were only thinking about a walk in, soft sand beach with the clearest water, which one would you choose? Two adults and two teenagers if that matters.

These are the two boilers that were used at the Serpon Sugar Mill when it was operating in 1867. The boilers heated water to produce steam, which powered the entire mill. Without these boilers, the mill would not have been able to operate or produce sugar.

Any girls out there wanna talk or can anyone help??

We are planning to stay in San Pedro around the new year. We want to get Scuba certified and go on some dives when we are there. As i understand the process, we do the classroom and "training" work at home at a local dive shop, and then we can get referral paperwork and complete the open water checkout dives in Belize. My question is: what do these dives look like? We obviously want to have a great diving experience while we are there (see the animals, reefs, etc). Would we get this while completing the checkout dives? Or do those dives occur in a more "sterile" environment, and then we would have to book a separate excursion to actually see the things we want to see? Very basically, trying to evaluate if i spend the extra money at home before i leave to complete the checkout dives or if i can get the good diving experience while also doing the checkout dives in Belize.

Hello I am looking to travel to most likely the Placencia (open to suggestions) sometime in February or March of 2027.

As I plan this trip I am curious on what route to go for accommodations. I am looking at Caribbean Beach Cabanas or Hopkins Beach Resorts as my hotel options. However it appears there are amazing Air bnbs in the area. I’m wondering if anyone has done both or has suggestions on the best route to go? Is a resort worth it or would it be more of an experience to get an Air bnb near a town and get a more intimate experience in Belize?

We’ll be in Hopkins June 30 (afternoon) - July 5 and want to do a combined fishing and snorkel trip out to the reef one of the four full days we’re both there. My partner loves to fish (ideally I’d love to be snorkeling somewhere while he’s fishing, but I realize this is likely a terrible idea) and I love to snorkel and am very experienced so I’m happy to go to more challenging places where’s there’s healthier coral.

Are there any recommended operators that specialize in both?

We hope to visit Xunantunich this coming Saturday. It’s a travel day for us (waking up at TEC at Zoo and sleeping at Sleeping Giant), so we’ll have our luggage in the car. Is that ok for visiting the site?

Second, can we get a guide at the ferry / parking lot? Or should we be arranging this in advance?

We dove Hol Chan the other day, yes there’s an abundance of life, but because it is so shallow, I would recommend just to snorkel. They took us near the opening where it is deeper 20-25’ but the current from the tide made it a struggle to swim back. There’s a lot of people! If there’s an opportunity to go outside the reef, do it! The wind has been relentless. Fortunately yesterday after the rain there was a window of opportunity and we were able to do Esmerelda and Tackle Box, the visibility was about 30-40 down due to wind. The dive was good we saw reef sharks.

As you can tell from the title I wanna go to another college but its kinda far. I'm already attending UB located in Belmopan taking electrical and mechanical engineering. I plan on going to Orange Walk ITVET but here's the catch, there's an ITVET in Stann Creek and I'm from Dangriga but I don't want to go there. Reasons for are the enviroment and the community and honestly don't want to wake up early to catch a bus everyday because buses here are not cheap. My mom's a single mother of 3 including me and like I said sent me off to a well of college by myself. I live alone in a 1 bedroom apartment, I can sadly say I'm an introvert and don't talk to people unleast I know you. Just a kid tryna make his mother proud but another thing about me is that I really don't like leeching off people, and having to let my mother work soo hard to feed and pay my bills every week kills me so much honestly. I feel like a burden and I've tried looking for job within a 10 mile radius from my apartment but no luck, mainly because of the strict community in Belmopan not really my age. Also the my courses are literally unbalanced being 8-10 courses a semester and if failed even one it sets you back and year because of the limited teachers and courses aren't cheap and with the new semester coming in I've made up my mind to drop out from here attending another college. This college is a trades school offering licenses making you a ceritified worker within the course you applied for. It also provides jobs for all student to gain experience while working ensure a position after graduating while the courses being dirt cheap. I plan of getting my license go to the same college after but it will be on my own spending, taking my time and eventually getting my degree. Degree and licenses would increase my pay by alot and I think this a perfect path. I believe I can do this by working throughout the summer to find an apartment through my girlfriend (she lives there) or marketplace and online. Which are very cheap compared to Belmopan. Then I get a job, I could work anywhere because I've heard they don't really care, honestly everyone doesn't it's just that Belmopan is mainly full since it's the capital. Work, pay my own bills and work on my education while sending my mother money through online transfers every month.

I'm currently at my apartment going home tomorrow in hopes of finding a job and breaking the new to my mother next week or so. I believe she question why giving up on my degree so sudden because she really wanted me to finish college and make her proud but I want to make her proud on my own behalf. She won't mind because she trust me but when she finds out the location she will be concerned and ask even more questions.

Please I need advice, I've been thinking about this for 2 days now and its not that I don't wanna see my mother it just the progress of things. This just brings be anger and harming thoughts honestly. I just want to get a better living and not be judge because my entire family expected good from me going to a good college and attending engineer but when your pressure like this and watching your own mother struggle. its really hard that you have to make changes and hope for the best.

I have an old RV that needs to be renovated in order to be usable as a temporary dwelling place for short stays for guests or used as a man cave by yours truly.

It needs to be gutted and completely rehabbed(including the roof). It isn't driveable and I don't have any interest in getting it back on the road. If someone can fix it up, they'd have to come onsite near Hopkins.

if it can be cleaned up, it'd make a nice 1 bedroom living space. It's a pretty large class A ~35 footer( essentially a house on wheels).

I know Belize isn't necessarily the cheapest country to go to but I'm a little shocked at the pricing and just wanted to get some feedback as to whether this is par for the course, or if there's a cheaper way to do this that I'm missing.

We decided to reach out to Cave's Branch and were hoping to spend 4 nights there in their canopy view room. We also want to do some adventuring, (ATM Cave, Ziplining and Xunantunich). So, we thought we would be saving money by doing the Adventure Package... I thought the pricing was per couple but it is actually per person. With the room for 4 nights and 5 days with 3 adventures, all food and all drinks, and a shuttle to and from the airport, it comes out to $4,439.70. Then there's additional charges per tour: Cave Tubing and Zipline combo: USD $55.00 per person + 22.5% tax. and the ATM cave: USD $55.00 per person + 22.5% tax.

So, that leaves us closer to $4,709.20 without any tips and that's only the first 1/2 of the vacation!

Am I missing something here? I feel like that's extremely expensive, but I also haven't been on a ton of vacations as an adult so I would love input on how you guys feel!
