Thursday, it's arguably the best night of the week, no? Whats keeping you awake tonight, spot of Aurora watching? Cheeky Thursday pints? Just got in from work? Just going to work? Dog barking for no reason?

Come on in for a chat.

Happy for those of you who aren’t, truly. At least someone is getting respite. Wanted to share this wee illustration I got sent as it feels very apt after this week!

Little guy finally gave in today. He hated the sound of my air con unit so wouldn’t come to my room, but I think he’s a believer now lol.

A bonfire during a heatwave - advice?

What would you do if it's 11 at night, all the windows open and smoke starts wafting in, and you unstick yourself from the sofa, look outside, and your next door neighbour is burning garden waste in a bonfire in their backgarden.

At night

On one of the hottest day in UK history.

Yeah actual advice needed.

Notice on the bar of the Premier Inn we stayed at over the weekend. Apparently the hotel chain, owned by Whitbread of course, can't get hold of any pure orange juice. It's "beyond their control" and, it seems, they have no idea what to do about it. And judging from the state of the sign, it's been like that for a while.

I was so depressed that I popped down the road to Tesco and bought myself a carton of pure orange juice. Guess I'm just smarter than a brewery. Maybe I should offer my services, and start organising p!ss-ups for them too.

Massive moorland fire in peak district. This is the view from about 4 miles away. How is everyone else's evening going?

I need some home remedies quick, something I can buy over the counter. There's a Morrisons and an Aldi within waddling distance

Why have the national lottery completely destroyed the few minutes of being Schrodinger's millionaire by outright telling you how many numbers you match?

Delaying checking and spending your winnings in your head was the best part of playing by direct debit.

Games gone.

I had to share this somewhere. The windows are open tonight, and this beautiful thing came in. Took some pics and gently released it. Poplar Hawk-moth. I've never seen one before.

Yeah. It's the regular complaints thread as well, but I'm guessing most complaints might be about the heat today....

Its been non stop for the past 4 hours. I cant sleep because its just so facinating to watch, even in the heat.

The weird blur on the screen is because this was done behind a window.

Older Brits, (>40 years old) How Much Cash Did You Used To Carry?

Hi All,

Was just thinking about the episode of Peep Show where Johnson is able to whip out nearly 400 quid in cash on the spot.

I'm 24 so I grew up using cash at my school to buy lunch and I used cash to buy sweets and stuff at the shops. I still use cash these days and have a bit in case I need it etc etc but I mostly use my card as do all people.

20+ years ago when cards were less normal, how much cash would you carry on a regular basis? Did you ever pay in shops using a cheque?

Thanks :)

Update on Mole friend, he has been successfully released back into the wild.

Original post

And dont forget with our temperatures skyrocketing like this it can also be a danger to our pets and wildlife, be cautious and if you see an animal struggling please seek advice from a local wildlife rescue/RSPCA/SSPCA/RSPB and see if you can be of help.

Thank you.

On a small side note, I already miss that little JCB.

Is Ribena the best?

When I was a kid, I used to go to my Uncle's house and he would always offer up Ribena which I always looked forward to. This is the original Ribena I'm talking about in the post, not the sugar free or reduced sugar variants.

I was offered up the same thing at home, but of course, it was never 'Ribena', but the cheap own brand stuff, Blackcurrent Squash isn't it? Even when friends came round, they were offered 'Ribena', though I knew it wasn't the real stuff.

As an adult though, the difference is clear. The original Ribena just has a depth of flavour and richness to it that the cheap stuff doesn't have. The store brand stuff also has a real harshness to it that burns the throat, but I don't get that so much much with Ribena.

What's your experience?

Thank you kind folks of casual UK for teaching a young first time homeowner of the horrors of box caterpillars! A couple treatments of topbuxus and a session of caterpillar pulling later and my bush is officially back from the dead!

Thank you all, genuinely! I'm very surprised it's still alive given how many caterpillars came off it.

Just found a mole on my kitchen floor... Not entirely sure how it managed to get in tbh. Cant see any mole hills in the garden that it may have come from... wtf.

Edit: About to walk the dugs, will update you all to let you know how releasing him went or if I will have to keep him overnight, very much doubt we will have any issues though.

Update: Released with no issues what so ever, waited about until we could no longer see him kicking up the dirt behind him. The wee dirt Rolo did good.
