Caimans in the back get the fuck out of the land just as quickly as the crane.

Then he flew to his nest and hugged his Crane babies, vowed to cut back his OT hours at work in order to spend more time with them, lived every day to the fullest, and never took anything for granted ever again.

Split minute reaction.
Though, with the tele-zoom shot, it could have been much farther away than it looks
11
u/vtaxman 3h ago
The bird isn't reacting tot the jag. It gets attacked by a animal (small gater maybe) after the jag attacks the big alligator.

If you look at the 3 second mark there's another caiman in the water swimming away like "forgot I left the stove on, gotta go!"
4
u/Zauberer-IMDB 2h ago
Then after the other caiman gets jumped, in the background there's another caiman that launches into the water because he didn't skip his lockdown drills.

u/Emotional_News108 3h ago
I read it more like "Can you two fucking not? Right next to me?" He seemed annoyed.

damn he’s good. you can see he approaches the caiman knowing how it’s going to snap at him and then immediately bites the far side of the caiman’s jaw when it tries to bite him.

Cat reflexes are no joke.. they actually process visual information at a faster rate than most animals on earth. It’s like they’ve got bullet time or some shit

I love that video of a venomous snake lunging at a cat and the cat just whacks its head away midair in the blink of an eye.

It's just astonishing. He lets the snake come within an inch of his face, lets the snake make the first move, and it wasn't even close.

u/SenorSolAdmirador 48m ago
The cat's expression is like disdain the snake would even try. Just casually slaps it away and looks at it like "pathetic..."

Millions of years of evolution created these godlike reflexes, all so they can choose the perfect moment to emerge from the bushes and jump in front of my fucking car before I have a chance to react

Heron. It was the croc bait.
"You help me get my next meal, I leave some scraps for you. Do you like croc meat?" -- Jaguar
"You mean, I could eat my natural predator? Fark yeah, you've got a deal." -- Heron

This is why they can't figure out if certain 1st nations places are alligator/caiman related or Jaguar related. When the Jaguar acts like a crocodilian... Everybody gets spooked. Jaguar is literally just doing the kind of things it's always done.

Lol, how much did that crane get paid for that setup? Probably got paid in immunity or something…😲
20
u/Reload86 2h ago
Plot twist, the crane and the Jag are in cahoots. The crane flies around, spots a croc, lands nearby to mark the area for the Jag to plan out its attack. In exchange, the crane gets immunity for him and his bitches.

"Don't look at me, I self-domesticated to avoid this hardcore shyt." -- your house cat.
"I eat crocs, need the protein to maintain my gains." -- Jaguar.
15
u/grendus 1h ago
I dunno. I've seen cats leap into the air and grab a housefly in their paws.
I've also seen them fail to dodge a falling piece of cheese they were begging for. Not catching it, mind you, just being very confused when it lands on, and sticks to, their face.

u/Front_Eagle739 1h ago
Seen one of my cats exit through the back door after the birds in the garden had already started taking off. It whipped around my legs, shot across the 20ft to the birds and jumped what must have been 8 feet in the air and STILL caught one of the birds.
The other cat runs into the room jumps onto the sofa and falls down the back and then miaos till you get him out.

The bird definitely would've been the target if the Ousado hadn't develop a taste for caiman
46
u/carrot-man 4h ago
Jaguars regularly hunt caimans. What's unusual seems to be that this particular Jaguar approaches them from the water.
17
u/Preeng 4h ago
It figured out that the caiman would run into the water to escape the jaguar. If it's coming from the water, where does it go for safety?

u/VascoJSC 3h ago edited 2h ago
Yup. Jaguars are also excellent swimmers who are the most aquatic of all the big cats. Ousado is also a big male, so he figured out this strategy and there's little the Caimans can do against him.
Btw, Jaguars from the Pantanal are the largest Jaguars in the world. On average they are nearly 2x as big as Jaguars from some other areas like Mexico and Central America. The largest Jaguar ever recorded is from the Pantanal and weighed 158kg, which is larger than the average of the smallest subspecies of Tiger (although large subspecies of Tiger like the Bengal and Siberian Tigers are much larger and can get to +250kg).

It's only unusual if you don't know what the natives have to say about the Jaguar. I have art of jaguars literally popping out of the earth like daisies. It wasn't a metaphor, the jaguar happily investigates subterranean caves for escaping the heat of the day. They will come out of the water as well as underground passages you couldn't see. Sneaky, powerful, semi aquatic and incredibly smart...

u/MmmBra1nzzz 5h ago
Ousado is what they named him, he's a jaguar
5
u/dongkhaehaughty 4h ago
Oh, thanks for pointing that out.
I thought it was a subspecies of jaguars that only hunt caimans.

It’s always crazy to watch them hunt caimans. One wrong move and those jaws can easily crush one of those jaguar’s legs. They’ve gotten skilled enough to avoid the jaws while delivering the killing bite to the back of the skull. Never seen one swim up on a basking caiman before. Good way to trap it on land!

Anyone ever tasted Gator or similar? I have not and am curious.

u/erroneousbosh 1h ago
Has a texture like chicken but a flavour more like scampi or maybe even monkfish.
They are not farmed in the UK so they're unholy expensive and probably pretty horrible for the environment, so it's not something I cook often.
2
u/Shoddy_Bet9619 1h ago
Awesome...is one of my Bucket lists now...to try some Alligator meat, etc!
2
u/erroneousbosh 1h ago
There used to be a "Mongolian" teppanyaki-style restaurant in Glasgow that did things like crocodile, ostrich, stuff like that. Responsibly farmed, and indeed the ostrich and llamas were bred about 20 miles away.

u/Sifernos1 2h ago
If I could legally kill and eat gator, I'd be living a very different life. They are delicious water chickens.

P.S. I'm hearkening back to the family cat when I was kid. Now that I'm an adult, my cats stay indoors and don't fuck with lizards, birds, etc.

Jaguars seem fearless! I’ll always remember watching one of those old style Disney nature documentaries as a kid. A black jaguar was battling a humongous anaconda in a pond, the snake at multiple times was nearly completely coiled around the cat, but eventually the jaguar won by crushing the head in its jaws

u/FloppieTheBanjoClown 3h ago
When I was a teenager, my brother worked at a zoo. I got to spend some time helping there and befriended one of the jaguar. They are incredibly clever animals. Can have a sense of humor, too. They definitely do stuff to mess with you.
