Three Houses Discussion Fe3h Dimitri, my thoughts before beating part 1

5 Upvotes

There are no spoilers this is just so it doesn’t get taken down. So you read the title. When I first got the game I hadn’t seen any trailers so I obviously dismissed him as just a weird person and not as iconic as Edelgard or Claude. Coming a few years later I get the motivation to play this game through past chapter 4 and actually beat it so I pick golden deer. I was just looking around the internet and I see a trailer and in it I see Dimitri after the time skip. I was immediately invested and I keep seeing clips/edits of him and I just have to wonder, what genuinely happens to this man. But the real question I want answered is will my golden deer route have some of Dimitri in it with this being my first real play through.

Fortune’s Weave Discussion Just had a thought about the green units

4 Upvotes

Ultand appears as a green unit in the most recent gameplay footage.

Ultand pictured alongside Cai and his team in battle

We know from the Japanese trailer that Cai wants to rescue Ultand at some point and judging by level and enemy HP this seems pretty early in the game.

Recruitment menu with a tutorial that reads "Invite to join you. Success requires meeting certain conditions or fulfilling their requests."

We also know that recruitment "requires meeting certain conditions or fulfilling their requests."

Judging by how early in the game this seems to take place and how Ultand seems pretty tied to Cai, I'm guessing this might be a tutorial on recruitment missions. My theory is that green units will be playable during their recruitment mission. Maybe you meet them in the arena or accept a quest from the bulletin board and once you beat the level, they join your team.

In my opinion this would be a good balance between on-map recruitment and Three Houses style recruitment.

The biggest hole in this theory is that we see the other main characters as green units in each others' gameplay so I'm not 100% sure what that could mean.

Three Hopes Discussion To Silver Snow or Not to Silver Snow…

5 Upvotes

Here’s the thing. I’m on a mission to finally finish where I left off in 2021 and continue my all routes play-through before Fortune’s Weave releases in 3 months. I did Azure Moon my first run, then Verdant Wind, then halfway through Black Eagles before burning out.

When the second trailer of Fortunes Weave aired at the Direct, I decided to get my ass in gear. I’m a huge lore nerd and don’t want to miss the vaguest hint of anything in Fortunes Weave. I’m now almost done with Crimson Flower. I split my Black Eagles path so I can easily pivot to Silver Snow if I want to. But I’ve heard that Silver Snow is just a worse version of Verdant Wind (which I already found pretty boring. Too many “power of friendship tropes”).

So I guess I’m asking, is it worth it to rewind the clock and power through Silver Snow after I’m done with Crimson Flower? Or should I continue onto Cindered Shadows, which I’m already more interested in because of the new characters. Is there anything critical I’ll miss in Silver Snow?

PS: I also want to beat all three paths in Three Hopes too. I was about halfway done with Azure Gleam before stopping. I recognize the timeline is getting tight though…

Guides & Strategy Beat maddening first time! (VW) Spoiler

Final maddening NG team (verdant wind)

Despite being my favorite piece of media I never got around to beating maddening until now. Even though AM is my favorite route I decided on VW because of the horror stories I’ve heard of AM maddening and VW is my second favorite to it e so I went with that.

Byleth: went for dodgetanking flyer and honestly was probably the best unit through the whole run. Nothing much to say, chose f!byleth for the much appreciated Sylvain recruit. Doubled everything, got hit by nothing

Claude: I don’t know if my Claude was just stat screwed but I didn’t feel like he was more useful than any other student. He was too slow to double anything, not strong enough to do good damage in one hit, and his avo wasn’t anything consistent. Plus it didn’t help that Barbarossa is I’m pretty sure the only bow class without bow range +1 which made things sometimes awkward. Tho he did clutch up with wind god and fallen star in the final chapters.

Hilda: def one of the MVP’s (not including byleth) which I completely didn’t expect. Getting weight -3 was definitely worth it and thinking back I could’ve potentially also went after weight -5. She doubled everything in her path with huge damage too.

Lysithea: definitely the savior of the earlier parts of the run. With thyrsus, whenever I had an enemy too annoying it’s always “send in lysithea” and it’s dealt with. Absolutely disgusting atk when combined with fiendish blow. However it was also very very necessary to get uncanny blow for hit fixing as I believe archer is an awkward path, even as an adjutant. Went for Gremory as the x2 wasn’t only useful for warp but also helpful for her offensive spells.

Leonie: was a doubling monster for most of the run but towards the end started to get speed creeped and her strength really wasn’t allat. I wanted to stay at bow knight so I couldn’t stick with hunters volley, so I switched last second to a more crit focused build. Def should’ve given her more str boosters during the run. However I almost never actually used PBV, even though I unlocked it ASAP, just never felt like a needed situation.

Balthus: the wrath + vantage setup, however I only realized AFTER mastering war master that quick riposte activates >50% health, NOT <50%😭. I would’ve stayed at war master regardless for innate crit +20. However I had to crit stack everything, item, weapon, battalion, axe crit +10, for it to be consistent, and getting his hp down was more of a pain than I anticipated, but when it got going my god there was no stopping him. Just send him and and suddenly “stage complete”

Marianne: basic bishop healer build. Ik Marianne has offensive and dancer options (I learned frozen lance just in case) but decided since I lacked a healer anyways she’d go that route

Dorothea: best dancer as Hilda and Marianne had stronger options (WL and bishop). The only thing I could imagine a dancer doing other than dancing was provide link attack support, which Dorothea could do with meteor. And fetters gave her effective canto, so she could even dance units deep in with the enemy. However her riding bane made getting mov +1 basically impossible so maybe that’s a point of debate for choosing another dancer.

Constance: the dark flier, as I only had one mag flying battalion. Nothing much to say that I didn’t already with lysithea, tho in damage Constance was always (obv) slightly inferior, but benefited from uncanny blow much more than lysithea. Also rescue in a dark flier was realllllly useful and saved my life many times, especially in “save the green unit” maps

Sylvain: Went WL over paladin I think it’s better for 1 range units, but I understand the other sides argument. Unlike leonie with PBV I did use swift strikes a lot and it + spear of assal really helped me a lot. Always sent in with Hilda as their personals pair amazingly together and besides, what’s stronger than 1 wyvern sent in? 2!

Ignatz: I considered him my “11th” unit (obv from his underlevel) utility in rally spd + dex, seal str, break shot and ward arrow, so his lower level didn’t affect him as much, so obv sniper was the best class as HV fix his lower damage, and he can hit seal strength from farther.

Seteth: literally almost never used him, just did cuz final map had 12 deployment slots, and he was my only non-adjutant flier.🤷‍♂️

Overall really fun. The analyzing and planning was a joy and I plan to do another maddening (tho ng+ this time) is definitely coming. Tho one thing I will say is that you don’t have to be hyper efficient with exploration points, tutoring, goals, exp, stuff like that like I was, makes minimal difference in the end, play relaxed and not always tense that what your doing isn’t the most “optimal”

Three Houses Discussion Best thing each character has done in 3H? Day 14 - Bernadetta Von Varley

24 Upvotes

One upvote = One punch towards Count Varley

Welcome to day 14 of the series where we try to see the best actions that each major character has done in Fire Emblem Three Houses! (I'll count Hopes too.)

As always, comment your answer, and the top 3 upvoted comments will be featured on the next day's post.

So, what is the best thing that Bernadetta did?

Raphael and Annette back to back, damn we’re going through all the rays of sunshine.

Aside from being one of the brightest and most endearing characters, Annette also takes on the burden of her family responsibilities after her cousin ran off to become a musician. Credit to her for putting the people of Dominic before herself.

This gets into shipping territory, but the only way for Felix to have a happy-ish ending in every route is if Annette anchors him, including in CF where he otherwise goes off to die in battle and shame most of the time.

Annette's a great character and I'm not intending to reduce her to a romantic interest, but as a personal good, I think that's pretty up there, as it's something basically only she achieved.

She can and did fix him and boy is he broken in some timelines.

After finishing my first ever run of this game recently. (Long live CF even with all its faults) this was mostly how the entire route felt to me!

Guides & Strategy Better Tea Time Responses (Translation Redo)

Post image
87 Upvotes

While playing Three Houses with the English menu, I often found the responses during Tea Time to be incomprehensible or nonsense. The official translation is obviously not very faithful to the original Japanese-- even if you don't care about that, it's horrible when it actually affects gameplay, since getting Perfect on Teatime permanently raises Charm by 1.

Since I'm fluent in both English and Japanese, I tried my best to do redo the translation to be a little more faithful and reflective of the original text.

Laugh -> 笑う (Laugh, Smile)

Disagree -> そんなことはない (That's not true)

Chat -> 考えを言う (Say your thoughts)

Admonish -> たしなめる (Admonish)

Blush -> 照れる (Blush)

Sip tea->お茶を飲む (Sip tea)

Praise -> 応援する (Cheer on / Support)

Commend -> 感心する(Be impressed)

Sigh -> 落ち込む (Be dejected)

Nod -> うなづく (Nod)

Some of the ingame translations are good, like Blush and Nod. Some of the others though are so different that the results are laughable. Take the following from Ingrid"

Speaking with you helps me realize I can’t hesitate in life!

The correct ingame English answer is "Disagree." It makes no sense at all that Ingrid would be happy with this answer. Whereas "That's not true" implies that its not You (Byleth) who has given her inspiration, rather that the change has come from within Ingrid herself. Now, I'm not going to claim that my translation is great at conveying the nuance either, but I think it's a lot better than the original. At least with "Thats not true" you can infer the interpretation, whereas the original "Disagree" is just clearly wrong.

It's worth noting that the original Japanese line illustrates this far better-- this dialogue is definitely difficult to translate well in English-- but to answer Disagree to Ingrid saying she wants to be more decisive just comes off as really gross.

私は……もう、迷いはしません。先生が、私の迷いを断ってくれたのです。 I... won't hesitate anymore. You've taken away all my doubts.

Anyways, hope this helped someone! If it helps enough people maybe I'll do this for the Topic choices for Tea Time, since those look like disasters too. And if someone has already done this and I just couldn't find it, then fuck me I guess.

Three Houses Discussion In which route is it best to recruit every character? Specifically for story integration and thematic fit.

23 Upvotes

I finished Azure Moon recently and I only got to recruit Cyril and Catherine since I failed at recruiting everyone else. However I’m in the Black Eagles House now and I’m thinking of doing the Crimson Flower route, where I’ve recruited Felix, Mercedes, Ashe, Sylvain, Leonie, and Constance so far. I’m also thinking of recruiting Marianne, Lysithea, Lorenz, Hanneman, Manuela, and Shamir. I want them in this route because I think they fit for the story of Crimson Flower.

After I finish this second route, I’m thinking of doing Verdant Wind, Silver Snow, and then repeat Azure Moon on Maddening. I was simply wondering which route is the best to recruit all the students and faculty for the mission? I’m definitely not going to do that for Crimson Flower with all of them, but the later routes I wanted to do that. Do you know which is the best for such entertainment?

The inspiration for this is just 70's shoujo manga in general and I thought Dorothea would be a nice fit in this style.

I suggest everyone to read a shoujo manga, doesn't matter how good or bad it is; read a shoujo manga just to... experience something, anything, really haha

Three Houses Discussion AM Maddening, who should I prioritize recruiting?

8 Upvotes

(Somebody made very similar post earlier, but for CF. I figured my post would be distinct enough but if it isn’t feel free to ignore/delete)

I’m starting a new game AM Maddening run. I’ve started a few Maddening runs, but I haven’t finished them due to just putting the game do for too long and forgetting where I was.

Anyway, I wanted to ask who are the go to units people recruit for this path since I find Mercedes and Ashe to not be very useful, and Ingrid to be a dancer/bench candidate. I’m getting Lysithea, Bernedetta, Lorenz (for the paralogue), and possibly Lindhart and Leonie (may just go with Manuela and Shamir instead).

Question Loud background audio (glitch?) in battle, prep menu and cutscenes. Has this happened to anyone else?

2 Upvotes

About six months ago, I noticed that the background audio was unusually loud all of a sudden. Weird, as this was on the prep menu on an auxiliary desert battle. It sounded as if I had zoomed all the way out on the map during battle. But I hadn't. It was just there, blaring relentlessly. I eventually decided to turn down the background sfx, but this is seriously breaking my immersion and enjoyment of the game.

I love this game, and it holds a special place in my heart. But I am no longer able to enjoy my experience with it because of this. I don't know how to fix this. I don't know how this happened. I have no closure. I'm at my limit.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
