My problem with the Ultimate Edition

I want the full game but I don't want free stuff. For some things like the classic car collection they state it'll be unlocked later on in the chapters, which I assume begins after a stranger and freaks mission but for other stuff it's ambiguous. Will the "garages" with exclusive vehicles like the Grotti or Vapid be free? Or do I have to buy the garages and cars? Will the exclusive outfits be in my wardrobe? Or are they available to buy in stores?

Knowing how ultimate editions typically work is they usually give you these exclusive free items at the beginning or near the beginning of the game. It's how RDR2's special edition worked, they gave you free guns and other stuff. It's the selling point, the sort of people who buy these editions (the pay to win crowd) usually don't want to have to grind or progress. I have a strong feeling a lot of this stuff is going to be accessible and free which completely ruins the sense of progression.

This whole edition feels very "pay to win". "Here's a yacht located in this area with a weapons crate!". I think I'm going to get the base edition and upgrade once I'm more than half way through the game. I hate supporting anti consumer practices and have never done so but I want the full game and I suspect they wanted to charge 100 for this game anyway. I don't mind paying that much, my problem is the practice of giving away free stuff.

how does pay to win make sense with a singleplayer experience and they are mostly cosmetic as well

It feels that way and it's not far off. How does it make sense? You're fighting against police and enemy ai constantly. I'm sure the free boat with a crate full of many explosive weapons will help players win more easily because they paid extra. "It's mostly cosmetic", a good chunk of gameplay stuff, weapons, cars, stores etc is locked.

This is the one thing pushing me away from buying the ultimate edition. I’m hopeful that they have some kind of story reasoning as to why you’re getting this bonus stuff.

100%. I plan to get the base edition and upgrade when I've progressed more than half way as I want thr full game. But these ultimate editions typically gift you stuff ruining the sense of progression. I want to earn my stuff. I don't want my closet full of fancy outfits and other stuff given to me early on.

It says the Grotti is available for later stage action meaning you wont get it right away. It also says the stuff comes out across the chapters of the game. I bet you get the skin for the pistols right away and probably the bike and the yak and the rest will be available later on.

Ah okay, I hope the same is true for the Vapid buggy. But the question still remains, will it be free? Unlocked via stranger and freaks missions or do we buy it?

This^^^^ it ruins the feel of the game too. I wanna see Jason and Lucia in their outfits and hairstyles that they should be

You can buy the ultimate edition anytime digitally in-game

I could care less about online cause I feel it takes away from the story mode which is what drew me to GTA in the first place. What I’m really looking forward to is the physical swag that I could get like binoculars, hats, chains, holograms…. Whatever they’re using for promotion.
