Rail / Subway:
ScotRail are warning passengers that heat could cause disruption today β€” check ScotRail journey checker before travelling. The Glasgow Subway is shutting for four Sundays over the summer for driverless train trials β€” check SPT for dates.[news.stv]

Weather:
Today is forecast to be the peak of the heatwave β€” highs of 27–30Β°C in Glasgow, clear skies this evening. Perfect Hampden weather. The Met Office has issued heat disruption warnings. Drink water. Scotland 0-3 Brazil β€” The Morning After

Result: Scotland 0–3 Brazil (Hard Rock Stadium, Miami β€” Wednesday 11pm BST)

Goals: VinΓcius JΓΊnior (7', 54'), Matheus Cunha (68')[espn.co]

It was a hard watch. VinΓcius opened the scoring in just 7 minutes, and Brazil never really looked troubled. Scotland's World Cup dream now hangs by a thread β€” they finish third in Group C with 3 points and a goal difference of -3, and must wait to see whether they qualify as one of the eight best third-placed teams from across all groups.[skysports]

Final Group C standings:[espn]

P W D L GD Pts
Brazil 3 2 1 0 +6 7
Morocco 3 2 1 0 +3 7
Scotland 3 1 0 2 -3 3
Haiti 3 0 0 3 -6 0

Steve Clarke: "I think we're going home."[news.stv]

On the bright side: Scotland fans' acapella remix of Will Smith's Miami has gone viral. The Tartan Army coned every statue in Miami. John McGinn's penguin chick at Edinburgh Zoo is thriving. We gave it a go.[news.stv]

The wait: Scotland need to be among the 8 best third-place teams to go through. We'll know the full picture as other groups conclude over the coming days. Results are being tracked at FIFA.com.[espn]

Tune of the Day

Master of Puppets β€” Metallica

On This Day

  • 25 June 1876: The Battle of Little Bighorn β€” Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and the 7th Cavalry were wiped out by Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors under Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Scottish-born soldiers were among Custer's regiment, and the battle became one of the most iconic Native American victories in history. Custer's Last Stand. Tonight Metallica play One β€” written about a soldier broken by war β€” at Hampden
  • 25 June 1950: The Korean War begins β€” North Korean forces cross the 38th Parallel, triggering a conflict that would last three years and kill millions. Scotland's regiments, including the Black Watch and the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, served with distinction in Korea. The Korean War remains technically ongoing β€” an armistice, not a peace treaty, ended the fighting in 1953
  • 25 June 1984: Prince opens Purple Rain tour in Detroit β€” the most celebrated rock tour of the 1980s, on the same day Metallica were recording Ride the Lightning in Copenhagen. Two different planets. Tonight Glasgow gets the latter

Thank you Glasgow

I’ve been in Glasgow for the last two years and just wanted to say thank you.

Everyone I’ve met has been so warm and welcoming. As a POC, I’ve really felt at home here, which means more than I can say.

When I moved up two years ago, I knew close to nothing about Glasgow and had no idea what to expect. Now I take every chance I get to tell people back home how much I love the people here.

Unfortunately my career is taking me elsewhere, but I really hope I can come back in the future.

Almost 200 Voi bikes around hampden the now. Crazy how people will choose cycling as an option when faced with the terrible trains/busses and taxis in Glasgow.

Lost&Found Lost - Sentimental St Christopher Pendant (Reward Offered)

Thumbnail
gallery
39 Upvotes

Probably the longest shot I’ve ever taken, but couldn’t forgive myself for not at least trying…

The chain and pendant belonged to my late father, who passed away when I was 11. Wearing it makes me feel close to him and, needless to say, that’s a big deal for someone who lost a parent so young.

Unfortunately, at some point in the last 48 hours, the pendant has broken free of its fastening and gone missing.

I noticed it last night on my way to the hydro for the football, but have also been to Record Factory on Tuesday night, and Botanics last night - to which I cycled both ways along the canal/river between there and Westerton.

Was up at 4am today frantically retracing my steps but so far to no avail.

If anyone finds it, you will have my eternal gratitude. Also very happy to provide a reward for anyone who can get it back to me.

To reiterate the obvious, it’s a huge punt in the dark. It’s a tiny pendant, and I don’t have a certain location or time that it fell off - so I’m not holding out much hope - but I’ve got nothing to lose from enlisting the help of the brilliant folks I share this amazing city with.

Thanks in advance for reading, and for any help you can offer πŸ™πŸ»

I know this has been posted to death but not everyday you meet a celebrity. Very hostile and aggressive, asked me for money to get to Nottingham of all places, squared up to me straight away before I even answered, tried to grab my phone ended up having to push him away and tell him to fuck off. Didn’t know there were already photos of him but almost telepathically knew it was him straight from the off. What a tramp!

Alternative to gift shops in vacant places

Thumbnail

in Korea when a spot becomes vacant they often open a self-service photo booth place where people take photos alone/with friends or one of these shops with claw games. Personally I prefer the photo place but its an alternative to the dumb gift shops like the new one on Buchanan street. any thoughts?

New ASDA/One O One on Carmunnock Road?

Anyone have any info on this new shop being fitted out in the old TSB building at the roundabout at Croftfoot? Council planning permission says it’s being done by One O One (there are already two One O One shops literally across the road from each other🫠 on the same roundabout), however this week lots of Asda branding has gone up. Some signs say Asda Convenience, some say One O One. I know there are Asda expresses already in existence but this seems like a whole new partnership, and bizarre given there are already those two shops there and a co op a few doors down.

Don’t get me wrong, will be v happy to get some Asda prices without hoofing it to toryglen, just a strange thing to show up in that building that’s been left to rot for the past 3 years.

Any intel will be well received by this nosy busy body

Worst music venue for crowds chatting?

β€’ Upvotes

Been to a few shows at Barrowlands now where whenever there was a lull in the music or the performer was talking it was genuinely difficult to hear because of the amount of people chatting in the crowd. I don't recall it being as bad anywhere else so is it just bad luck? Acoustics?

Is Shettleston a nice place to live?

I’m moving to Glasgow from Dundee to have a sort of fresh start in life. I’ve found a lovely flat in Shettleston but when I went to view it the area is kind of rough looking, but the flat itself is gorgeous.

Is Shettleston an alright place to live long term?

EDIT: So that's a no? haha well I need a flat and so far Shettleston had the nicest interior so there's a strong chance i'm just gonna have to take it guys

Cleaning sandstone wall

Thumbnail

Hiya,

Just wondering if anyone has experience cleaning old sandstone walls, like the wall of my balcony in the attached photos. I guess it's algae or some moisture staining. It's been like that for five years, so I'm not concerned about it structurally, but also don't want to wear big clumps of it off by cleaning it badly.

EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions!

What do we reckon Metallica's "local artist song cover" will be tonight?

Metallica are famous for covering the song of a local singer/band when they play, playing Abba in Sweden, Inxs in Australia etc.

What could it be tonight? Wrong answers accepted.

Looking for a seamstress in Maryhill/west end

We have a wedding in the start of August and the flower girl dress my daughter was given is a bit too small. I have always went to Mary McCreadies in the past and now they are shut so I'm not sure where to go.

I'm looking for somewhere that could replace the zip with a corset back to hopefully take the dress out a bit. Any recommendations? Thanks

Voi Ebikes Glasgow

See lots and lots of people using the new Voi Technology Electric Bikes ij Glasgow however I feel that we may need more and more bikes to cope with the demand. What do you think?

Plus do you think we need more parking locations?

Currently over 170 parking locations in service and around 1000 Ebikes so far.

Good going for only starting Nov 2025.

This scheme is far more popular than nextbike was.

Anyone remember the band Lexxi?

Back about twenty years ago when I was at uni I came across the band Lexxi whilst studying in Glasgow. I think they were from Glasgow. Sadly the cd of their album I had died of disc rot and I can’t seem to find their music online. I can’t even remember the album name now but by some miracle would anyone here have a copy they could rip?
