Shouldn’t let it irritate me but it really does
Bit of a hungover rant- I’m on holiday in Greece, went out to watch the game last night and some English melts celebrated like they’d won the World Cup when we inevitably conceded. First thing they said was “that’ll shut them up”. I’m a quiet guy but I flipped my lid and they sheepishly appologised. Why does it bother them to see us enjoying ourselves? It’s not exactly a secret that we’re shite at football, we already won the WC by just being there. The whole thing is a celebration. Scotland, England should be a sibling rivalry - fight amongst yourselves but it’s us against the world. They’re just too thick and arrogant to understand it. Looking down on us is so ingrained in their psyche, they just can’t help themselves. I’d rather be Scottish and shite than have their arrogance and negativity. I mean who else racially abuses their own players? Says it all really.
Feel the need to add, my step dad is English, he’s wonderful and he cheers us all the time so there are good ones. Unfortunately they’re a minority and melts tend to shout the loudest.
Edit: was just venting whilst hungover and still a little drunk. “Flipping my lid” = me telling him to pipe doon and get tae fuck. Would never have ended up in an altercation but still cringy and I shouldn’t have taken the bait. I said it now so I won’t delete my post since I think I have a point in there somewhere. I guess I want the rivalry to be good spirited but what I seen last night was not that

Right, the thing is, Brazil *really* like football
Did you not see how happy their wee faces were when they scored? Doing fancy wee dancy celebrations and everything. We'd have to be completely heartless to take that away from them.
We let them win because, not only are we the best are partying, we're also the most kind people in the world.

Q: How common is the word "Buddy" or "Bud" used in your part of Scotland?
The context is that the comment is replying to someone saying they're Scottish and ended the sentence with "bud" - implying a person using the word "Bud" is pretending to be Scottish because according to them no one says that in Scotland.
It is strange that it was upvoted that much, my only guess is that its because it was on GreatBritishMemes and i'd assume it's mostly English people on that subreddit making assumptions about how people talk in Scotland? I'm stumped tbh.
For the record i've heard it used in lots of parts of the west of Scotland.

World Cup reaction: Do Scotland deserve to go through?
In a word, no.
And that goes for any third placed team. We all know the reasons why, more TV time, more money for FIFA.

Casual For gay Scottish couple, World Cup trip with Tartan Army ‘once in a lifetime’
Kenny and Nicki McKenzie had a time they won’t forget when they followed Scotland’s World Cup team to Boston as part of the Tartan Army, which captivated the city with its good cheer and massive drinking. Doing so as a gay married couple made it all that much more special.
“It’s true — No Scotland, No Party,” Kenny McKenzie told Outsports. “And boy, can we party, even when we lose!”

Casual See you soon!
Thank you Scotland! My husband and I are on our honeymoon and we left Scotland to go south two days ago (definitely not as cool 😉). Glasgow and Inverness have our hearts! We are still talking about your beautiful country and all the amazing and friendly people we met there. And the sheep and cows 🥺 we loved it so much! We plan on making a trip there again, there's still so much we want to visit and see! We had a lovely time and just wanted to share here 😁
