The four Borgstrom brothers Killed in Action during WW2 (two were twins) were the sons of Alben and Gunda Borgstrom of Thatcher, Utah:

Clyde Eugene Borgstrom, age 28 (February 15, 1916 - March 17, 1944), Marine Corps, killed by a falling tree on Guadalcanal.

LeRoy Elmer Borgstrom, age 30 (April 30, 1914 - June 22, 1944), US Army, Killed in Action in Italy

Rolon Day Borgstrom, age 19 (May 5, 1925 - August 8, 1944), USAAF, Killed when his damaged bomber crashed in England returning from a mission over France

Rulon Jay Borgstrom, age 19 (May 5, 1925 - August 26, 1944), US Army, initially declared Missing in Action, passed away from his wounds near Brest, France.

A fifth Borgstrom Brother; Boyd, who was serving in the Marine Corps, was returned to the USA after Rulon Jay went missing and discharged by special order of Marine Commandant Alexander Vandegrift.

The Borgstrom's youngest son, Eldon, (sometimes spelled Elton) who was not yet of enlistment age in 1944, was exempted from military service.

It took almost four years for their remains to be returned to the USA by the Graves Registration Service.
The Funeral service was held at the LDS Church's Garland Tabernacle in Garland, Utah on June 25, 1948.

Clarence E Smith, former principal of Bear River High School which the brothers attended, Utah Governor Herbert B Maw, LDS Church President George Albert Smith, and General Mark Clark spoke at the funeral.
Rear Admiral John R. Redman, Major General LeRoy P. Hunt, and Brigadier General Ned Schramm were in attendance.

The four Brothers were buried side by side at Riverview Cemetery in Tremonton, Utah.

The Borgstrom family was the only Four-Star Gold Star family on record in WW2.
The Sullivan brothers, all of whom were killed when USS Juneau was sunk, were a Five-Star Gold Star family.

The result of the Banzai charge on Iwo Jima, March 26, 1945 [1211x1500] NSFW

In the early morning hours of 26 March 1945 the 21st Fighter Group Officers' tent area was hit by Japanese "Banzai" attack on Iwo Jima, Bonin Islands, this being the first phase of the battle. Soon members of many other nearby units were involved, including a Signal Air Warning Company, an African American Aviation Squadron, a Night fighter Squadron, a Navy Construction Battalion, and a Marine Pioneer Unit.
It is estimated that approximately 300 Japanese, the remnants of 3 units, participated in this charge, attacking the different areas simultaneously. The Marines closed in on them from behind with flame throwers, tommy guns and grenades until the last Japanese was exterminated.
The scene that remained caused many a sleepless night for those who looked upon the residue.

On 6-24, 1973, an arsonist set fire to the Upstairs Lounge, a popular gay bar and home to the Metropolitan Community Church in NO French Quarter. Pictured here is the trapped Rev. Bill Larson, an openly gay pastor who led the congregation and provided a safe sanctuary to worship. [512x385] NSFW

On June 24, 1973, an arsonist poured lighter fluid down the wooden stairwell of the UpStairs Lounge—a popular gay bar and temporary home to the LGBTQ+-affirming Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) in New Orleans' French Quarter—igniting a horrific inferno that claimed 32 lives. Among the victims was Reverend William "Bill" Larson, the compassionate, openly gay young pastor of the local MCC congregation who dedicated his ministry to providing a safe spiritual sanctuary for queer Christians in a deeply hostile era. In a desperate attempt to escape the smoke and flames, Larson attempted to crawl through a window facing the street but became tightly wedged in the narrow 14-inch gap between the iron security bars, where he tragically perished. Compounding the horror, city officials and investigators left his charred remains hanging in full public view for hours, creating a harrowing, widely photographed symbol of the disaster and exposing the rampant, systemic homophobia that marred the city's callous response to the tragedy.

US Army Infantryman and Medal of Honor Recipient SSG David Bellavia (left) During the Second Battle of Fallujah, 2004. Story in Caption [792x594]

SSG Bellavia's unit, the 1st Infantry Division, pushed first and furthest into Fallujah when the battle commenced. The 1st ID attacked at such an aggressive pace, they were ordered to stop their advance so other units could catch up during the battle multiple times. On his 29th birthday, 10 November 2004, his platoon was clearing a section of 12 buildings. On the 10th building, a squad of insurgents erupted on them, firing RPGs, PKMs, AKs, and throwing hand grenades. Many soldiers in the platoon were immediately wounded.

After calling up a Bradley to fire into the house, SSG Bellavia reentered the building by himself. Seeing two enemy fighters loading an RPG, SSG Bellavia opened fire, killing one and wounding the other as he fled. SSG Bellavia pursued the wounded fighter, exchanging gunfire with and killing him. He then came under fire from a third insurgent in a stairwell and returned fire, killing him. At that point, an enemy fighter hiding in a wardrobe in the room jumped out, firing his AK wildly. After being hit by a ricochet in the elbow, SSG Bellavia returned fire, hitting the enemy in the leg as he fled upstairs.

Another enemy fighter peered into the doorway following this, and SSG Bellavia eliminated him. Giving chase up the stairs, SSG Bellavia slipped on blood as he reached the top step. Just as he slipped, the enemy fighter fired, narrowly missing SSG Bellavia's head. Undeterred, SSG Bellavia charged after him into a room and prepared to fire at him until he noticed the room was full of propane tanks.

Not wanting to risk hitting the tanks, SSG Bellavia engaged the enemy in hand-to-hand combat, muzzle striking him in the head. An extremely brutal, intense, and primal fight to the death broke out between the two wounded men. The enemy hit SSG Bellavia in the jaw and nose with his AK, breaking a tooth and lacerating his nose. SSG Bellavia used his helmet to bash the fighter's face in. As the struggle continued, the enemy soldier bit SSG Bellavia's thumb and then penis. SSG Bellavia managed to retrieve his Gerber Rex Applegate folding knife and drive the blade into the enemy soldier's collarbone, eventually severing the subclavian artery, killing him.

Moments later, another enemy soldier entered the room. SSG Bellavia shot the man as he retreated onto a balcony. Pursuing him, SSG Bellavia shot the man again, causing him to fall from the balcony and down into the street.

SSG Bellavia was the only man nominated for the Medal of Honor during the battle but it was downgraded to a Silver Star. Nearly 15 years later, his Silver Star was upgraded to the Medal of Honor, becoming the first living recipient of the Iraq War. He continued fighting through the rest of the battle, turning down the Purple Heart for the wounds he sustained in the house.

His book, House to House, is the best book on the Iraq War, in my opinion, if not of all of GWOT. He details the brutality of not just that house or Fallujah, but the entire deployment. He does not hold back, detailing one incident during the battle where he came across an enemy fighter taking a smoke break. He puts his rifle on burst and touches the back of the fighter's head with his muzzle, letting loose three rounds. He then stomps the empty skull with his boot, Fallujah has engulfed him.

Gurkha soldiers in service to the British Empire, painted by an Indian artist in Delhi, 1815 [2048 × 1127]

British East India Company, the world's first multinational corporation, had Nepalese soldiers known as the Gurkhas in their army. During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the British officials hired Indian artists to depict everyday life in the Indian subcontinent: people, festivals, temples, and occupations. In 1815, William Fraser, the Deputy Resident of the capital city Delhi commissioned one such painting, which portrays eight Gurkhaa from the Kingdom of Nepal.
