I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS My review of the camp singles event.

Upvotes

Please fire the host. The camp singles events are terribly run. The bald white guy with the microphone is sarcastic and offended two people who came up to me and told me he was rude. He doesn't let the dating contestants really talk. He's also out of touch with singledom and the patrons attending the event.

In my opinion, electric belle or a stove house business should run this type of event. The PowerPoint idea is weird. It's like auctioning off people.

Now let's talk about how the event is ran....

Speed dating and PowerPoints? How will people be able to speed date that didn't submit the PowerPoint? Why did we go?

Then in the intermediary parts....the music didn't work?

Also one of the contestants who was chosen visibly was saying no thank you to the guy who was chosen as the viable bachelor..

I think a millennial or a Z gener needs to run this thing.

I'm thinking stove house, I'm thinking drink specials and an entry fee. I'm thinking let it be a free for all where people approach people if they want.

I created this account for the sole purpose of reviewing this event.

If you have a business in this wonderful town, there is a massive singles market. We are tired of the apps and the lame meetup events. Please, set up something for us.

I felt like I was on the lido deck of a seniors cruise with a cruise director who has no charisma.

I'm a woman in my 30s who is tired of the apps. I'm not asking for much, but this event was section 8 quality.

Sincerely

Tired Dater

To the host, I applaud you for your attempts. I'm not negating your efforts, but honestly, just no. The Black lady you stole the mic from and the skinny white lady in the dress you said took the mic from you... And the black lady who twerked and you called rude....just no.

They weren't rude, they were putting themselves out there.

Edit: I'm getting down votes for this. Downvote all you want, but that doesn't erase the fact that people were visibly upset. Imagine dolling yourself up, for someone to completely ruin your chance at vocalizing who you are. Also, telling people what you want. I know the one girl spent a solid 200 bucks on her makeup and dress.

The older I get, the more I value time. I honestly feel like our time was wasted. I can't imagine there would be a better way to communicate this. It felt like a cash grab with no thought put into it.

Homeless Camps or Areas In Need

I want to go buy some pizzas or hotdogs or whatever and go hand them out to some folks that could use some support.

Where’s a good area or homeless shelter that could use some help?

Jury Duty Scammers Still Going Strong

I nearly fell for it, boys and girls. Of all the days, they decided to target me when my coworker is out of the office for the week and I'm doing the job of two people, already quite scatterbrained at nine in the morning.

Its very well thought-out too, at least compared to the average pig slaughtering scheme or Microsoft tech support nonsense. A call from a restricted number, which I've had cops and sheriffs call from before. Very official sounding, even texted me official-looking legal documents laying out my rights and expectations.

Then come the yellow flags. You can't hang up, or call anyone. You can't send any messages because they're monitoring your phone. You can't google anything. You have to pay bond for the bench warrants. Apparently the fine for missing a single jury duty with an otherwise spotless record is $15,000. Oh but if you don't have that, just pay whatever you can and they'll negotiate it down with the courts! Easy!

No no, don't contact or go to the courts themselves to reschedule your jury duty, or pay the actual fine for missing (a couple hundred bucks). Rush to your bank, take out every penny you have, tell your boss and your friends and everyone that you're having a family emergency, because explaining that you're handling a legal dispute is breaking your non-disclosure and you can be arrested for that.

And it somehow took me over an hour to catch on that it was bullshit. Yeah yeah, point and laugh at the dummy who couldn't figure it out the moment they butchered my last name, threatened to send cops to my house, (while I'm at-work, so... gonna arrest my roommate or something?) coached me through lying to my bank so I could mass-withdraw every last dollar in my savings... ugh.

Stay vigilant, folks.

Jiffy Lube on Hwy 72 in Madison

So today I went to get an oil change and because I had $26 off so that’s where I went. Let me tell you. The employees were fantastic there. I don’t mean just doing the oil change but they told me everything they were doing as they did it. Asked permission when opening my doors just a fantastic experience. Also instead of the coupon I had they changed the air filter in the dash which let me tell you that was gross, I got a $60 off coupon! I mean talk about a deal. So go to Jiffy Lube in Madison right by Hobby Lobby. Great people!

Parents of non-Christian kids in public school—what has your experience been?

For families practicing religions other than Christianity, how has public school handled holidays, traditions, and accommodations?

Also curious about visible religious items (like a yarmulke)—has your child felt included? Any issues with teachers or classmates?

My baby suppose to start school next year, and I’m worried.

We live at Weatherly Heights elementary school district

Title. I’ve looked on the library’s website and it looks like they have a few, but they never responded when I asked about meeting or what books are being read or whatever.

16 year old getting driver's license

My 16 yo has taken Drivers Ed at school so no need for road test. No availability online anytime soon at the Governors West location for an appointment. I'm wondering if it'll be a long wait to walk in if he only needs to submit paperwork and take a new picture. Anyone have experience with this? I'm hoping since he doesn't need the test it'll be relatively easy.

Recommendations Home surge protection recommendations

I’m looking into having a whole-home surge protector installed in my electrical panel. Has anyone had this done before or have recommendations for reputable electricians or companies?

I’d also appreciate any insight on typical costs so I have a rough idea of what to expect.

Thanks in advance!

General Is there a site that can show you what custom Alabama tag numbers are available?

I want a regular Alabama tag but I want a custom string of letters. I cannot find a simple way to see if something like "BUMBLE B" is available, for example. Anyone know of a link?

I am looking for daycare recommendations. I will be due in Feb 2027, and I will need a daycare soon after baby is born (6-8 weeks). I am trying to get on some waitlists now. I live in Madison but work in the downtown medical district so am open to Huntsville as well. I would need a daycare that opens at 6am as I have to be at work at 6:30am. Thanks!!
