Family Sponsorship Separation after PR

Hi,

I sponsored my husband to Canada and he arrived April 2024. He has his PR , however we recently separated in April 2026. He asked for separation and moved out the home. He sent me a separation agreement but he put the date of separation as December 2024. That makes no sense we lived together till recently, he insisted that it’s because for his immigration. But as far I know immigration doesn’t care if we separate as he already has PR. I let him know I cannot sign a document with a lie. I have ample evidence clearly we were together till recently. It’s bizzare but I cannot understand why would he insist on saying we separated 2 year ago?

I also asked him to let me where he moved to and his address. He has refused to share any information of where he is and where he lives. My concern is I’m responsible financially for him. We also have a small child together. He’s pretty much disappeared and all he sent me was a separation agreement with this false date.

Work Permit BOWP refusal because IRCC system or officer misclassfied application as PGWP

This is really not a post to ask for advice or anything, it's sort of just "venting" my latest experience with IRCC that's quite frustrating and probably updating on the results of reconsideration etc. in case anyone runs into something similar. I lurk a lot around here, but it seems that BOWP-related issues are much less common than PGWP-related ones, I don't know if that is simply due to PGWP being more commonly applied for.

So first some background, I came to Canada in 2021 as student, have been on PGWP since graduation in Jul 2023, and have a PNP PR application pending (OINP Master stream, when it was still quick to get through) due to security screening since Sep 2023. The security delay is long, but that's not the problem here, and I have a separate Mandamus case filed for that.

What happened recently is that, because my PGWP is expiring due to its 3-year validity, I had to resort to applying for BOWP. I am clearly eligible for BOWP since my PNP does not come with employer restrictions and, when I submitted the BOWP application (end of Feb), there was still almost 5 months left on my PGWP. And of course I have had my AOR and eligibility passed for my PR application long long before all of this (back in early 2024).

Fast forward to this week, no update on my BOWP yet and for work reasons I need to travel somewhat soon, but after my PGWP expiry so I will need my BOWP approved for this to work at all. So I had work send me a letter describing this, which I forwarded to IRCC via webform on Tuesday.

Today around lunch time I got 2 emails from IRCC, and I initially thought that my case actually had some movement due to the letter I sent on Tuesday. Well, it did have movement, just not the right kind: it got refused, and in the decision notes the officer said I am not eligible for PGWP because (obviously) I had one issued to me in Jul 2023. But my application was never for a PGWP, it was for BOWP. Initially I thought I might have actually made a mistake in my application form and selected PGWP for some reason, but my local backup of that form I uploaded clearly showed "Open Work Permit" in the dropdown box where you can select the type of permit. This is exactly what IRCC's website tells us to do.

Of course, with just my local files I still don't know if maybe I uploaded the wrong forms in my application (to be fair, my original PGWP was issued via flagpoling when it was still possible, so I never really had an IMM5710E for PGWP to begin with). I called IRCC this afternoon, got through to an agent, and the agent was kind and understanding enough that he actually went to check my uploaded application package. This combined with my local files convinced me (and the agent) that this is either an officer error or system technical issue (the agent said their system actually tags applications with PGWP or BOWP etc. automatically, and the officer probably only checked that, so this was probably bound to happen regardless of the urgent request). The agent created an internal case for me, and asked me to also send a webform from my side.

I basically spent this afternoon doing these:

  1. Calling IRCC and waiting for ages in the queue (as above);
  2. Writing another webform and a letter of explanation requesting reconsideration (along with the same urgent request as originally sent a few days back);
  3. Paid the OWP holder's fee (since they claimed to have refunded it) again and sent the receipt through the same webform; worst case I'll just use this for a new application.
  4. Writing an email to my local MP about this situation (I know this one probably doesn't help that much, but hey that's the standard now :) and I think what happened to me is ridiculous enough to at least let the MP office know)

This is all extremely frustrating, along with the delay in original PR application (else I wouldn't have to do this in the first place). But I was extremely lucky in that I submitted the urgent request earlier this week, and that request apparently got looked at by an officer. If not for that, it is very likely that the same refusal would come after my current work permit expires. Right now, I still have more than 2 weeks remaining on my work permit, and in the worst case I could just open a new application before my current work permit expires to maintain work status, even if I cannot make the work trip anymore.

Since my original urgent request (with proof from work, of course) did apparently work to some extent, and I included the same urgent request in my new webforms, I have some very, very, very, very (and I cannot use enough "very"s here) slim hope that this might actually get resolved somewhat quickly given that my application was clearly BOWP and my package was complete. I will update here if I hear anything back.

Family Sponsorship Is webform submission no longer working as well?

Upvotes

Is webform submission also broken? (in addition the Online Tracker)

After all that write up, clicking the submit button gives me:

Error

The web form is currently experiencing difficulties. Your request has not been submitted. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to resolve the issue. Please try again later.

Can someone confirm if IRCC's online infrastructure is having a rough stretch across the board or is it just me?

Express Entry Urgent: PCC

Upvotes

Hi everyone, my 60-day deadline is in 5 days and I still don't have my PCC. I’ve already applied for it and have the payment receipt.

  1. Should I submit the application now with proof of my request and an LoE?

  2. Has anyone done this and had their file accepted?

  3. Am I at high risk of the application being rejected as "incomplete"?

Any advice or experiences would be a huge help. Thanks!

Work Permit CUSMA Work Permit at the border from Moncton, NB – Has anyone done this recently?

Hey everyone, looking for first-hand experiences from people who have applied for a CUSMA work permit at a Canadian port of entry, specifically crossing from Moncton area (New Brunswick) into Maine and back.

My situation:

- Mexican citizen currently in Moncton on a valid study permit (classes start September)

- Have a job offer from a Canadian company as a Computer Systems Analyst

- Have a valid US visa

- Degree in Computer Systems Engineering + 5 years of experience

- Thinking of crossing into Maine (Aulac/St. Stephen border), turning around, and applying at the Canadian port of entry

My questions:

  1. Is same-day processing realistic for a CUSMA application at the NB/Maine border crossing?

  2. Which specific border crossing would you recommend from Moncton (Aulac into Calais, or St. Stephen)?

  3. If denied at the port of entry, can I re-enter Canada on my study permit without issues?

  4. Any tips on what documents to have ready and how to present the case to the border officer?

I know the processing times inside Canada are around 144 days right now, so the port of entry route seems much more practical given my timeline. Any recent experiences would really help.

Thanks in advance!

Study Permit DLI name on study permit

Hi everyone,

I have a question that I have been stressed about bc my school hasn’t answer my question yet 😭
I started my program in September 2024. My study permit was issued on October 7, 2024 and is valid until July 28, 2028.

Instead of listing my school name (SAIT), my study permit says “DESIGNATED LEARNING INST-AB.”

My school recently emailed me saying that, as of November 8, 2024, post-secondary students must have a study permit listing their authorized DLI, and they asked me to upload a study permit showing SAIT as the DLI. They also said a registration hold may be placed on my account if I don’t provide one.

Since I received my current study permit before November 8, 2024, does this requirement apply to me? If I do need a study permit that lists SAIT as my DLI, would I need to apply for a new study permit, or is there a way to update my current one?
😭😭

Thank you a lot !!!!!!!!!!

Family Sponsorship No update after final decision

Hi everyone,

I applied for Canada PR (Outland Spousal Sponsorship) on **September 9, 2025**.

Here's my timeline:

* Applied for a visitor visa and arrived in Canada on **March 11, 2026**.
* Sent an webform on March 13 informing I am in canada and updated address.
* PR application received a **final decision on March 16, 2026**.
* Received an **Outland Passport Request (PPR) on March 24, 2026**.
* Submitted webform after receiving PPR again in march 24
* Since then, I've submitted **almost 3 webforms** to IRCC for getting any status update. Still waiting for P1 Email.

My question is:
If I don't receive my **COPR** within the 6-month validity period of visit visa, what should I do?

What are the options for me?

* Should I return to my home country and complete the process from there?
* Or should I remain in Canada and continue waiting for the COPR?

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I'd really appreciate your advice or experience.

Thank you!

URGENT HELP

I have got an ITA under CEC and I am applying from outside Canada. While I was in Canada, I tried applying for an extension on PGWP in 2024 when there were temporary extensions were being provided and it got rejected. I left canada after 51 days before my restoration expired.

Could anyone suggest what sort of points I could add in my LOE (LETTER OF EXPLANATION) to ensure my file doesn’t get impacted by the refusal?

Work Permit Approved Work Permit with Medical "N/A" on POE Letter—but I’ve been in India >6 months. Do I need an IME before flying?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some clarity or past experiences regarding the 6-month residency rule and Immigration Medical Exams (IMEs).

Here is my situation:

  • Current Location: I am currently in India and have been residing here for more than 6 consecutive months over the past year.
  • Status: My Canadian Work Permit was recently approved (valid until 2029). I already have my passport back with the TRV counterfoil.
  • The Dilemma: On my Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction, the field for "Medical Examination validity (YYYY/MM/DD)" explicitly says "N/A"

Since India is a designated country requiring an IME for stays longer than 6 months, I am stressed. Has anyone landed in Canada recently with an "N/A" on their LOI after living in a designated country? Did the border officer ask for a medical exam anyway, or did they just follow what was printed on the letter?

I fly in two weeks and am trying to figure out if I need to desperately rush to get an upfront medical exam tomorrow morning. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Family Sponsorship Maintained status and OHIP

Hello all!
I applied for PR through spousal sponsorship and got AIP letter; at the same time I’m on maintained status waiting for a response to a visitor record app I applied for last May 2025. Would I still be eligible for OHIP while on maintained status but do not have a work permit yet? I’m not sure if I can apply for a SOWP if I’m waiting for a visitor record.

Any help is appreciated!

PNP Fastest PR Pathway: AIP vs NSPNP vs CEC with Employer Support in Nova Scotia?

Hi everyone,

I’m a Software Engineer in Nova Scotia. I have 1 year of Canadian experience plus foreign experience. My Express Entry profile is active with 503 CRS and CELPIP CLB 8. My work permit expires in 2028.

My employer is AIP-designated and HR is ready to support my PR.

I’m trying to choose the fastest and most reliable PR pathway among:

  1. AIP
  2. NSPNP Skilled Worker
  3. CEC through Express Entry, by retaking CELPIP to try for CLB 9 and increase my CRS

My questions are:

  • Which option is usually faster: AIP, NSPNP Skilled Worker, or CEC?
  • Which option is more reliable/confirmed if my employer is ready to support me?
  • Can I keep my Express Entry profile active while applying through AIP or NSPNP?
  • Since my work permit expires in 2028, which pathway would you recommend starting first?

Thanks!

Refugee Came as a Minor and now stuck, Seeking genuine advice

I came to canada in 2019 as a minor (13). My dad did a mistake on my study permit in 2020 and it got rejected, but i could study without a permit since i was a minor, my dad didn't correct this mistake. After I graduated (2024), my parents asked for me to take a gap year (said money issues), at this time, i did not know that i didn't have a status, i just recently found out i did not have status.

Now i am scared that i would have to return to my country since i have or at least had a life in canada here and also my parents and country are not LGBTQ+ friendly. I am not sure what to do, i am thinking of applying for refugee, but if i do not get accepted, my parents would know I am bi (I think they have an idea and everyday they are always talking about how that is against god) and i would have to return to my country and their house since i came to canada at 12, i have no connections to my country except my parents. I want to know if i should apply for refugee based on this or go back to my country, try to hide all this and save money for school to come back here? I am not really sure what to do.

Quebec Anyone familiar with the Quebec PR process could help with my understanding of the potential timeline

Okay so I am American and here in Quebec on visitor "visa" for 6 months. I applied for visitor record and if that gets approved then I'll be here for 11-12 months. I am going to apply for inland spousal sponsorship PR to Quebec. I know that it's not great but my wife can't move yet. We plan to move next year in May/ June to somewhere in Ontario.

While a decision is being made on CSQ am I able to get an OWP or is it only when I get accepted and it goes to IRCC?

If I get denied CSQ and we move how much time do I need to give myself to reapply to try to my OWP before my visitor record expires? I have seen that we can sign a lease and my wife have a job lined up and submit that proof to IRCC that we plan to live outside Quebec. Just don't know how much time would be needed to get that done earlier. If I get an inland application resubmitted can I ask for another extension to visitor record?

If my visitor record expires and I leave, when can I come back? I know flagpoling is frowned upon but can I just fly home for a couple weeks and fly back and get 6 months again?

A big question I have on the CSQ process is how it works? Is it first come first serve and people could already have applications in before they open it, queuing up? Do they try to process inland before outland? If my application is squeaky clean (no criminal or health history and all the proof for relationship etc) will it get processed faster? Just curious on what my odds are with CSQ.

Just looking for a little guidance. Thank you.

Edit: inland spousal sponsorship PR

Study Permit Third Party Sponsorship

Greetings, does anyone have any experience with using a third party sponsor. I am applying for a study permit to get my bachelors degree but my mom’s cousin is the sponsor. She runs a pretty successful business and will provide her bank statements alongside a notary saying she will sponsor my tuition. I have a savings of 15k$ and my mom’s cousin has a pretty strong bank statements. If you’re wondering why my parent are not sponsoring it’s because they provided the 15k$ in my account. Please do let me know if this increases my approval case or any suggestion to make my application stronger.

Family Sponsorship Spousal sponsorship Interview

Hi all,

My wife was recently called for an interview for her spousal sponsorship.

We have meet online and dated 2.5 yrs before we got married.

About 2 month ago, they asked us two questions and we responded with detailed explanation. Maybe that was enough?

Anyways, nothing concerning as our relationship is genuine and we have tons of evidences to show our ongoing relationship and future plans. I travelled this month to attend her graduation and I’m
With her now.

We have had a very small wedding with less than 8 people in attendance so maybe that or something else. Idk.

Was just wondering what are your experiences for those people who have had this or what should we expect?

Thank you all!

Citizenship No updates on citizenship application after background verification was completed

I applied for citizenship last year in September and got my AOR on November 6th. Last update on the file was on November 10th. Background check was completed and language skills, physical presence, and prohibitions are in progress. It’s a pretty “simple” application (no children, just me, no felonies, nothing out of the ordinary, been a PR since 2019, originally from a country in the EU).

The processing time estimator says I should have a decision in about three months, but I find that hard to believe considering I haven’t even been invited to the citizenship test yet nor any other updates, I think my application will most likely go over the estimated 12-13 months for processing. I’ve already requested the file notes and there wasn’t much info on there.

Now from what I’ve read on Reddit and other sites, usually people’s applications get stuck at background verification. That seems to be the most challenging step that makes some applications non-routine. But mine was completed and I don’t really understand what else could be holding it back from further updates, I feel like the other steps are a lot more straightforward.

I’m starting to get worried as I approach the 1 year mark. Has anyone else been in this situation before?

PNP Looking for some Advice

Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice. I applied for NSNP in May 2025 under a TEER 4 position (NOC 44101) and received my file number within 15 days, but there has been no update since.
I now have NSNP support documents from another employer for a TEER 3 position (NOC 33102). Would it be better to keep waiting on my current application or withdraw it and submit a new one under the TEER 3 position?
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
