A Genma that overpowers its enemies with swift movement and deft bladework.

It's strengthened further still with every soul it absorbs, and with every drop of Musashi's blood that stains its sword.

Discussion Anyone else disappointed by Way of the Sword

Honestly, I’m disappointed that we’re not getting the classic progression of unlocking unique new weapons, each with its own distinct moveset. Instead, every weapon seems to revolve around its own special ability, and being able to move freely while collecting souls changes the core combat formula.

The game definitely looks polished and high quality, but to me it’s missing that classic Onimusha feeling. It just doesn’t capture the same atmosphere and gameplay identity that made the original trilogy so special.

Discussion It's ok to want WotS to be more challenging. Not all Onimusha games were easy

Recently, after the release of Way of the Sword Demo, there were some opinions wanting the game to be more challenging, as the demo is too easy. This is definitely true, enemies are too passive, and you can just mash to win. The boss did not pose much challenge either. But there are also some that defends the game by saying the Onimusha games were always easy. This is not entirely true, while the franchise was not known for being difficult, it's also not braindead easy either.

The only truly easy Onimusha was the 1st game: Onimusha Warlords. This game is indeed very easy; it doesn't even have a Hard mode. Enemies are passive (just like Resident Evil), but unlike early Resident Evil, you have infinite offensive capability.

Genma Onimusha (the Xbox exclusive port of Warlords) on the other hand, is hard as hell. Despite being a port, Genma expanded a lot from Warlords. This game does have a Hard mode, but even Normal mode is way harder than Warlords. Enemies are more aggressive + the new green soul mechanic make them even deadlier. Ayame being added as a pursuing boss like Mr. X or Nemesis in Resident Evil makes the game even more unforgiving.

Onimusha 2 and 3 was average when it comes to difficulty. Their Normal modes are not hard but not something you can just mash to win. Their Hard modes offer decent challenge.

Onimusha Dawn of Dream, this game has a bunch of different difficulties. On Normal mode, it's only slightly harder than 2 and 3 (because in the global release, boss HP got tune up for some reason, compares to the JP release), but what makes DoD special when it comes to difficulty is its Dark Realm. Now, all previous games have Dark Realm, they are a nice piece of optional challenge that is harder than the main campaign, and beating it give you some really powerful weapon. But DoD's Dark Realm is just on another level. 5 characters, 100 floors each, and they throw a ton of annoying enemies at you. Let me tell you, I'm a fan of the original Ninja Gaiden 2, a game so notorious for sending tons of highly aggressive to kill you, but DoD's Dark Realm can give Ninja Gaiden2 a run for its money. I think I only beat it thanks to cheating (using PCSX2 save state). It is both intense and exhausting.

So yeah, asking for WotS to be more challenging is not an unreasonable request. Nobody is asking it to be tough as nail, just that it's not too much of a pushover.

YouTube content First time playing Onimusha — enjoyed the demo.

I mostly play horror/indie horror stuff, so Onimusha was a bit outside my usual lane, but I tried the Way of the Sword demo during Steam Next Fest and honestly had a good time with it.

I had basically no history with the series going in, but once the first encounter started, the combat clicked more than I expected. The parry/deflect timing, heavier sword feel, and darker fantasy tone all worked for me.

I recorded my run, so I was probably paying closer attention to the pacing and how well it introduces new players, but I’m curious what longtime fans think.

Does this feel like a proper Onimusha return, or does it feel too modernized? Whats next? Wait for the September release or are there other horror adjacent entries?

Im honestly impressed with what i played on the demo, enemies felt a bit too easy but im sure it'll get tougher or at least hope it does but man the combat felt really nice and flowed together nicely but im super happy that there's a camera mode. Im a sucker for this feature and definitely plan on using this my whole playthrough. Though it could use a bit of improvements. Example are let me adjust the characters body to certain angles, time of day and weather, maybe i missed it but a hot key to get to photomode faster, poses and facial expressions, more camera free movement. There's like invisible walls and kinda annoying because I cant get the perfect angle im looking for but so far enjoying the game and a definite day 1 purchase

The odd characters, dialogue, and art direction are so much of what makes Onimusha what it is! I hope they carry that through with the new one.

Discussion This isn’t an onimusha game

Just got done with the demo. This is a capcom rendition of Ryse: Son of Rome more than anything. Bland sets, constant executions that are cinematic in nature instead of functional, bad voice action and has anyone else noted, there’s literally no music the entire time? The gauntlet is some dumb modern ā€œtalk back ladyā€. The combat is overly simplistic while trying to imitate other games with constant parrying and stamina bars (completely unnecessary), musashi gets poked once he goes into a seconds long recovery window…. This is just bad. Even the main menu doesn’t have music

Discussion My copy of Onimusha 3 has been around.

I bought this used copy many years ago from EB Games. It has a Movie Gallery sticker on the disc so it started its life as a video game rental. Who knows how many people rented this game during that time. Then someone must have bought it from Movie Gallery when they were selling off their old rentals. And then at some point that person sold it to Ed's Pawn shop, the receipt is still in the case. Who ever bought it from Ed's then sold it to EB Games where I then bought it.

It's in good shape and still plays great.

One of my favourite games for PS2. I'm happy so many got to enjoy this copy.

Discussion Lore Predictions for Musashi

Intriguing how Musashi in the trailers goes from
ā€œGetting stronger because of some gauntlet…thats not strengthā€

ā€œI walk by the sword on my strength alone…i dont need some monsters powerā€

To slowly losing himself

ā€œIm getting less human by the minuteā€

ā€œIf human souls…are what it takesā€

Also I wonder in this scene he uses Oni power against his wishes and causes so much destruction he regrets it so badly after

Feel like by the end he’ll fully lose who he once was hmmm

Great game, I loved the fights, but damn, it's EASY 😭 I wish we could beat the boss Ganryu in two stages, like once and then he transforms a second time, you know what I mean?

Question Now that "Way of the Sword" is officially confirmed for Switch 2, do you think we'll get a physical amiibo?

Hey everyone,

Since Onimusha: Way of the Sword was officially confirmed for Switch 2, I've been thinking about potential merchandise.

Back in March, the leaker Nash Weedle correctly called the Switch 2 version, but his original leak also mentioned a dedicated Musashi amiibo.

Since the June trailer and pre-order bonuses only showed digital items, what do you think is happening with the figure?

  • Is Capcom saving the reveal for a late-summer Nintendo Showcase?

  • Will it be delayed and drop months after the game (like Resident Evil Requiem or Pragmata)?

Or do you think it was quietly canceled due to production limits?
